Staff Sergeant Richard Anderson >UNSC Iron Sunrise >>Location:Unknown, Crash Site
Luck...Miracle more like it...
He nodded quietly and went to retrieve the item, saying a quick prayer for the man he took it from. He felt a stab of guilt ripple through his heart. These were his boys, and he couldn't even be there for them as they died. He shook his head, clearing the thoughts from his mind. Nothing he could do about it now.
He tossed the batteries to Moore, leaning against the back of the pilot's seat.
"So what's your story?"

Legix heard it, turning his head for a moment, speaking to Richard as he caught the batteries, "My story? I'm just an engineer from a colony who got lucky to enlist...not too major of a battle history, though. I guess you could call me...a professional. And what about you, Richard?" In the back, Corporal Yates could be heard.
"Plenty of us! Come on down!"
Shaking his head, he took his rifle, bashing the butt against the panel hiding the circuits in the pod. Another hit, another hit, and then, on the fourth hit, the panel fell loose. Resting his MA5C back down, he reached his hand carefully through the wires, feeling for the energy supply for some of its main systems. Finding the output/input jack spots, he followed each to the part they connected to, pulling them loose. After a minute of pulling, he finally pulled all the cords loose. Lifting the old batteries, he touched the positive and negative charges of each to the end, the batteries recieving a sort of quick charge. Only a second of doing so, he pulled it loose, afraid he may fry the battery. Slowly, and carefully, he removed the wires, moving the batteries back to their spot in the radio, he carefully reconnected the the wires to their respective ends. The radio's hum picked up, chatter from Pelicans faint. It was working, probably within a mile or more radius.
Carefully, he reassembled the radio's form, getting out of the chair, reaching down to pick up his rifle. The rookies had set up a fairly moderate blockade around the crash site, using parts of the pod that broke free from the main portion. A few trees also made up barricades, due to a few being knocked down in the pod's path. Overall, they wouldn't be able to hold off against a serious offense, but it was enough to deal with a squad or two of Brutes.

He gave a low laugh at Moore's question. Not because it was silly, but because he honestly didn't know where to begin. He finally decided upon a simply sentence.
"I'm just an old marine who's too stubborn to retire."
Or die, from the looks of it...
He shook his head from the last thought, memories returning to him of all the times he thought he would die but somehow, as if by a miracle, had managed to survive.
He shouldered his shotgun and stepped out to greet the oncoming group of marine's, lead by Corporal Romwell. On his way, he passed by a couple of rookie's who were setting up one of the torn air brakes as a barricade. He approached them and returned their salutes as he removed a few of his extra grenades, tossing them to the two soldiers.
"Take these and any other grenades you can find and set up some tripwires about 50 yards away from our perimeter. Make sure you send the word down so we don't have any unfortunate accidents. We want to trap Covenant with these, not Marines."
The boys snapped another salute as they went about executing his command. He smiled slightly and continued his trek to the Corporal.
"Good to see we aren't the only s**t-kickers around, Corporal."

The Corporal gave a leisurely salute to the approaching Sergeant. "Good to see Sir, we are currently making our way to the Sunrise, she went down ahead, if you didn't see it...or feel it for that matter." He replied reporting to the higher ranking enlisted man about his intentions. "Setting up a checkpoint?"
He asked the question as he pointed towards the Marines doing their work that he had already ordered them to do. The Marines with him saluted as well once they came within range.

Legix overheard the corporal as he parted the pod, "In a place like this? No. We just got a radio inside that we're going to use to try and get back-up with. Simply put, this thing is running off a bit of scrap work on my part..." The Sergeant approached Richard, "As for you, Richard, don't order my squad around, alright? We'll need the 'nades. No Covie group will attack us, in my beliefs, bigger than two squads. Besides, we won't be here for much longer, hopefully..."
Turning to the corporal, he nodded, "As for you, how many men you got with you? And, at that, what gear do you have? Hopefully some bigger gear than the standard issue gear my boys have."

The Corporal looked at the second Sergeant he had seen in the past thirty minutes. "I brought five with me sir." He replied answering the question. "We evaced on birds sir, all our gear is on the Sunrise. During a mandatory evac, you don't have time to go back and grab." He noted with a shrug.
"We haven't run into any covies, if it's any constellation.." Sebastian added.

Cocky pup...
He shook his head with a smile. He had been the same once, so he didn't try to dispute Moore's statement, and instead threw up one hand in a defensive gesture.
"Fine, fine. I'm just trying to prepare for any eventuality. But you gotta remember, the Covenant never do anything in small numbers."
He gave a quick salute to the two squad leaders, turning back to give slight supervision to the rookie's and a helping hand if needed.

Legix watched Richard walk off, shaking his head, turning to whisper to the corporal, "Just...ignore him." His voice picked up, now speaking at a normal level again, "Anyway, if you need some gear, we got a few frags, few guns, and a bit of ammo on the men that died in the crash. Arm up, if you need to. I'm going to be in the pod on that radio trying to get a contact...and about you not finding any...that's because my squad has been working them out of the area. Lost two of my boys not but an hour or so ago when we jumped a recon squad."
Turning, he began working his way toward the pod, not waiting for a response. Yates approached him, the other corporal telling him, "Sir, I think we could possibly ambush a group of Prowlers, back towards the field..."
"Are you sure, Corporal...? If so, tell me and we can move now...we got the gear for either a big defense or a successful ambush."
"Yes sir, I'm sure."
Thinking for a moment, he talked over the com between all the other marines, "Guys, I think Corporal Yates found us a way out of this hell hole...a Prowler convoy was spotted back towards the fields my squad came from...if we move now, we may be able to intercept and, possibly, get four Prowlers. Any objections?" No rookie would say anything, so he knew it would be between Sebastian and Richard, which, if they said no, would force them to wait it out.

He heard Moore's message clearly, and he mulled over the situation in his head. In terms of combat service, he knew from the looks of it that he had seniority by at least 5 years. But he had never been much of a tactician. He was a jump-first-and-ask-for-a-parachute-later kind of guy.
But he couldn't ignore their situation. Being stuck out in god knows where surrounded by god knows how many Covenant forces. The odds didn't look good, even for battle-tested marines.
"Sounds like the only option we got. But we better pull this off better than perfect, or else we'll be walking away with less then we started."

Sebastian gave his two cents after a thought or two. "I vote lets take em.." The marine said shifting his MA5B assault rifle in his arm to avoid getting a cramp. "Transport would be grand" He said with a nod.The thought of shanghaing some prowlers from a group of surprised Brutes just spelled out 'kick a**' in his mind's eye. Hopefully nothing went wrong during the objective. [Sorry, had a college rep on the phone.]

Legix nodded, motioning to Yates, "Corporal, I want you to stay here with a few of the rookies..." As the corporal ran off, he quickly called over the com, "Alright, corporal, Tyler, Rick, and Richard, get ready to move. And corporal, ready your men to come as well."
Running past Yates as the corporal entered the pod, he patted Private Rick and Tyler on the shoulder, both men following him. He slowed up for only a moment, to make sure the others were following. Once he had made sure, he continued, jogging toward the ambush location Yates had chosen would best give them the drop on the Prowlers. It would end up being along a dirt road, in a swampy location next to the road. As they began getting closer, he found out why it was such a good location. Once the Prowlers began passing, they could easily be hidden along the grassy line. Even if they were spotted, with Richard and his two privates on one side with him and the corporal and his group on the other, they could get close enough to practically drive a knife into any Brutes taking positions on the Prowlers. Moving, past the shrub line, he set a just-in-case trap; a group of grenades in the center of the road, trip-wired to blow if something rolled over them. A few men may have to squeeze onto the prowler, but if it meant doing that to get them, it would have to be done.
Relaying a message to Richard and the corporal he told them softly, the two privates setting up in valid spots, "Alright guys...Richard, you're with me and the rooks...corporal, you're going to have your men on the opposite side...remember; the key to this is NOT destroying the Prowlers...if we can, try to either shoot them out, knife them, or knock them off and engage them apart from the others. They'll outnumber us just slightly, but enough for worry..."

The trek to the spot where the Prowlers were to pass was a grassy knoll type situation, Sebastian took his squad to the other side of the road, quickly setting up spread positions. In concordance to the Staff Sergeants group. "I copy Sarge."He said into the comms as he held his MA5B to his chest, he laid on his back, ready to roll out and begin firing at the Brutes once they entered the effective range of his Assault rifle.

Legix simply moved to his own position, letting the other men do so as well. In the distance, the soft hum of Prowlers could be heard, though it seemed about a few minutes away. This ambush could easily be set-up and they had time to prepare, if need be. He only hoped that Richard and the corporal wouldn't lose their nerve. He wasn't as worried about Richard as much as he was the corporal, but, if any of them did, morale could easily break among the rookies and privates.

The time spent waiting was agonizing. But that was because of the adrenaline the Corporal felt coursing through his veins with ever throb of his heart. Time was moving slow enough to agitate the more than ready individual. "Come on come one...damn teddy bears like to take their sweet time.." he thought in regards to the brute convoy.
His eyes drifted along the tangent of Marines, they each seemed to be killing what time they had, with something dull and boring. A testement to the anticipation of the coming firefight.
