Jessan sighed as a blue Hatched out. Hadn't he told Rish that blue was his dream color? Of course, any dragon would be a dream come true. His blue eyes stared intently at the little one and tried to send soothing thoughts to him.
Moving slowly forward, Jessan could only hope that he attracted the dragon's attention without actually attracting his attention. Poor little fellow, Jessan moistened his lips and stepped closer. Please! Please notice him!

A blue, eh? Well from such a large egg, that was a little odd, but not entirely unheard of. He seemed rather dainty, he couldn't have been cramped at all in such a space. Still, he had some sort of attitude to him, a regalness that added to his steady lumbering towards the males. Velrun regarded him neutrally, eyes glancing up and down. Blues were fine dragons. No rank came inherent with them, but they were often said to be the most empathetic of dragons. Most searchriders rode them, and that was an important role. Perhaps not at Ista at the moment, being so very crowded, but in the grand scheme of things they were.
The only thing that made things different was the look on the blue's face. Perhaps, not knowing just who they would be attempting to bond with due to no hatching, the whole clutch would be this way: nervous, angry, but thankfully alive. Preferably the dragons would mellow with their bonds, and become more typical as time went on.

Firyal watched the new dragonet, the blue, hatch with interest. She knew that blues sometimes Impressed to females, but generally only to those who were attracted to other girls. She didn't fall into that category by any stretch of the imagination. Women were simply too physically soft to be appealing to her. But a blue dragon was as appealing to her as anything, even if Impressing one meant her sexuality would always be brought into question. Not that it seemed to make any difference, since the blue was making his way toward the male Candidates. Maybe he would choose Veyes, or E'rik's ex-Harper friend, Mal. That would be a triumph, she thought, though she couldn't imagine why it would be a triumph.

Merik heard snorting from the eggs, and turned around with a very sudden flinch, facing the newly-Hatched with hands over his neck. He relaxed when he saw it wasn't immediately rampaging off, but still stood with jitters in his feet. He could barely think while he watched the first two storming around, but his head was returning, and he knew from herding charging beasts that it was always beneficial to stay light on one's feet.
This one was Blue, and rather small, but it was a pretty thing to look at. Very taut and lean, if sort of unsteady. And from the looks of it, not at all happy. The Brown and Gold had found their Riders without killing anyone, and it wasn't that he devalued the strength of a Blue, but this particular one didn't seem quite capable of killing anything. He was nervous, but much more than that, he was interested. He tried to stick his hands in his pockets, but realizing his was in a robe, made do with placing them on his hips and giving the newest Dragonet a good, solid stare. It looked very healthy, just not a bit happy...

Oh, woe was Balin. This was not how he pictured this day going. The Weyr was supposed to be his freedom from fathering his brothers, and from dealing with little brats--children--like Miah. This was supposed to be an important, at least somewhat enjoyable day for him, regardless of if he was to Impress or not.
But no. Robbed again of any chance of enjoyment he might have had otherwise. Feeling all hope was lost to salvage this day no matter what he did, he cast the blue a very observant, almost envious glance before instructing his brother to 'stay' and dismissing himself for just long enough to weave through the crowds and get Miah.
Grunting, the young man offered his hand down to her, the silent gesture being a traditional, unspoken offer. I'll lift you so you can see, the motions said when his voice didn't.
In his previous position, Sen was too captivated by the new dragonet to even notice the older of the two boys had gone. "He's gorgeous! Looks like he's going for a guy. Maybe you'll get lucky Bachi!"

Poor Dolmin. Kagiya pretended that she didn't notice how he stuttered a little. "Yeah, think so! Look, they gots a Blue, too!" It had been a smaller egg, with a smaller dragonet, so she was right 'bout that. "Not so bad, though, right? 'Cause it's not a Queen?" So maybe, just maybe, there wouldn't be quite so many maulings? She wasn't sure. Didn't seem like color mattered so much about what was angry and what was not.
--
No reason at all. In fact, it would just be best if that wasn't mentioned... ever. Except... "Mal..." S'van said, looking distressed. "S'van, he'll be fine. Shhh," Vera whispered, trying to get the lad to settle down. "Nothing major happened. Now there's a Blue on the Sands. Should be interesting." Yes, interesting. Let's focus on interesting, shall we? "Oh, Marko, by the way... your flute is nearly finished. It will be done within the sevenday, I think." Now that she could make use of her wrist, and fingers.

Terisa sighed as the rocking egg revealed a small blue. He was a pretty boy, but he headed straight for the boys and evidently had no mind to look at any girls. It seemed a bit strange to the girl that no greens had hatched yet, but perhaps they were coming, just a bit intimidated by the show of power between the first two hatchlings. Making sure to stay out of the determined blue's way, Terisa's dark eyes scanned across all the remaining eggs, hoping to spot another one starting to move.
Her eyes glanced occasionally back at the already hatched dragonets, hoping that all of the drama between them had cooled, but not being completely content to ignore them, just in case one snapped again. The blue didn't seem as bad as his brother and sister, but maybe he was just biding his time.... In any case, the weaver girl's eyes never stopped moving while the huddle of female candidates lay in wait for the next hatchling.

Weylin, unlike many people, was quite willing to push himself to the front of the crowd of Candidates to see what was going on. He had clearly missed an awful lot, some of it negative but some of it...not so negative. He would have liked to see the Impressions. Shard it all. But that was for another time. Standing on tiptoe and eventually just shoving a handful of people out of the way, he got to a point where he could peer through the gap between two boys' shoulders at the blue.
Oh...another angry one. And Weylin suddenly realized just how true the rumours flying around might prove to be. Oh, shards.
---
"Right," La said, setting her jaw and looking up briefly at the two riders with whom Cordel was conversing. K'em she recognized because it was more or less impossible for any female in the Weyr not to have heard of him at some point. The other one...she didn't know. La wasn't exactly the gossippy type and a new face, particularly one Cordel didn't seem to like, wasn't exactly the object of her attentions at the moment.
Not with another dragon on the Sands.
---
"...Queen Impressed early. That a better sign than bronzes Impressing first?" Marko asked, still not entirely with what was going on. Then he actually looked at the Sands, really looked at them, and his face fell. "...wait."
This...looked bad. Grimacing, Marko looked up at Xeran and then bit his lip. "...there was, uh, 'collateral damage' going on before I showed, wasn't there?" Shardit! He knew this was going to happen. Hatchings at Ista were nightmares, end of story. Any Candidate with sense would get themselves off the sharding rock as soon as they could.
And then Vera's words reached his ears, and his expression grew slightly...less troubled. "Wait, flutes? Really? Oh, you're well enough for that?" With total abandon and a very, very brief disregard for what was going on around him, Marko scooped the petite Harper up into a tight hug before setting her down again. "Thank you!"
...and then he remembered where he was and what was going on and covered his eyes.

Not having time to answer Uuni before the dragonet shook off his shell, Kess just shook her head.
Kess broke her gaze from the blue, a handsome fellow, to scan for healers. There were quite a few on the sands, and she assumed it was only because she'd gotten on her feet quickly [lying stupid in the sands when dragons were afoot would help no one] that they hadn't approached her.
A frown touched her mouth. She needed her arm checked out, luckily it wasn't her dominant one. She'd landed on it, and her rough and tumble youth told her it was possibly fractured from the amount of pain. Pain that was increasing as her excitement began to die down.
But should she move from her position? It was a good one, closer to the eggs and a bit away from most of the crowd. A deeper frown and her black eyes locked on to a few of the healers, talking.
Perhaps, if the pain got to be too much, she'd head that way, in the meantime, she needed to watch these eggs.

"Huh? What?" Bachi looked at Sen a bit strangely at first before he turned around in the direction her gaze went.
The blue pelted and the orange eyed? Senra wasn't lying. He was gorgeous.
And, if the eyes didn't give him away, the way he stalked across the sands certainly showed his anger. Bachi was left in awe. The brown had been awesome, the gold has been viciously nifty, but this boy could have been in charge colors notwithstanding.
"Let's get a closer look!" He didn't bother to wait to see if Senra wanted to.
If he Impressed to the angry creature, he would happily never let Balin forget about it. Had he not gone off to get Miah, Balin would probably have been stopping him right now.

To say that Ferris was happy that the Shredder and the Screacher had impressed would be an understatement: she was god damned ecstatic and nearly gave a whoopwhoop! because of it. Those two were deaths waiting to happen, so the fact that most serious crises had been adverted and that they had found theirs and thusly somewhat calmed... well, that was cause for celebration in and of itself.
One can never have 'peace' for long, however.
As the next egg shook, cracked and spilled its colorful contents onto the sands, Ferris had to shove her way through some sardine-packed bodies to see anything at all -- ah ha, a blue!
...And a little one at that. And pissy. Aaaaannd attracted to the boys. Damn it.

From the stands E'rik watched Mal and Firyal closely, wondering if he could maneuver himself any closer to the sands. Carrying around a gitar case that he had to protect was proving a hinderance. He knew he ought to have delayed his arrival a bit and left it in his weyr. He still would have been there in time to witness both Mal and Firyal falling prey to the first hatchlings' careless brutality. As it was, he was trapped by the instrument, and for once he actually resented his love for music. If he were a normal Dragonrider, content just to train for the eventuality of Thread, he would not be in this predicament. It was then that he remembered there were others around who would know the value of a gitar and see to it that no harm befell his precious instrument while he moved closer. He moved with care toward Marko and Xeran and cleared his throat deliberately.
"Excuse me," he said. "Would one of you mind taking charge of my gitar while I find a nearer vantage point? Two of my good friends are down there and have already had some difficulties with dragons." Not that there was anything he could do for Mal or Firyal from the stands, and there was no way he was venturing onto the sands unless something truly dire happened.

Dolmin watched the Queen warily as she was led off to be fed, only relaxing when the gold was beyond the sight of his limited vantage point. Shards, that thing was scary! He couldn't understand how Kagiya seemed so unbothered by it... bet it was because of her daddy. Bet she was really just as scared as him, but was too stuck-up to show it. That would be just like her, he decided, stiffening his spine a bit. He'd have to make sure she knew he was just as brave as she was, then.
"Oh, the Queen wasn't really so bad," he bluffed, more bold now that Arioth was out of sight. "Just s'prisin'." Thus asserted, Dolmin turned his eye to the new dragon. Blues weren't so bad, Kagiya was right. "It'll prob'ly Impress a boy," he told her, taking a small opportunity to show off his dragon-related knowledge.

K'em was about to great W'ten, but he was entirely too slow. He shouldn't be surprised, really. The world might explode if Cordel and W'ten stopped bickering. At least that was still normal, despite everything else going topsy turvy during this hatching. "You know, Cordel...maybe you should just stay down there," he finally said, watching the crowd's reaction to the newly hatched blue. "Of course, now that you have an apprentice, you can just get her to do it for you, right?"
The brownrider grinned, leaning forward to get a better look at this 'La'. He'd heard about this apprentice quite a few times, but for whatever reason, Cordel had kept her far and away. Of course, K'em reasoned, it might be because she's a girl, but it wasn't like she was particularly stunning in the looks department. Eh. That's alright, she was still cute.
"Hey there! So you're La, are you? Cordel talks about you all the time. It's a pleasure to meet you."
He offered his hand and his most winning smile, Cordel and W'ten long since forgotten.

Sela's eyes widened -- oh, the little egg had hatched, and there was a little, dainty-looking blue. Other than the furious, fierce look on its face, Selachii couldn't help but think it strangely adorable. It was so much smaller, but still fierce! Part of him wanted to protect the tiny beast which was still somewhat impressively-sized compared to the flits he was more used to seeing, but then, it wasn't his to protect anyway. He moved a bit closer, fearless, wanting to see it a bit closer. It would probably not end well, and he only nudged his way into the leading line. He was a beautiful creature, though...
