The Black Spire

Kiendo soon fell asleep. He slept deeper than Relako, like he didn't care if he was attacked while he slept.

Relako woke up early the next morning and stood without a sound. There weren't any windows, so it was difficult to determine exactly what time it was, but Relako assumed it was still probably early morning. That was usually about the time he awoke, since it was all the sleep he needed. Kiendo would probably need a little more, so Relako didn't wake him up.

Kiendo was still asleep. He never snored and he made no sound. His body leaned to one side of the chair he was on. He looked peaceful. To anyone looking, he might even be mistaken for being a girl.
"...Eve..." Kiendo sighed contentedly; the only sounds he made and it was just once.

Eve? Relako thought to himself, glancing back at Kiendo as the man spoke in his sleep. It was an unusual occurrence, sleep talking. It happened most often when people were under some kind of unusually strong stress, but that didn't look like the case with Kiendo, considering the contented look on his face. Relako sighed slightly and noiselessly walked over to the staircase and down a floor into the library, being to peruse the titles for something he migth be able to read while Kiendo was sleeping.

A few minutes after Relako left, Kiendo stirred. A small tear rolled down his contented face when he opened his eyes. For a while, all his did was look at the blank walls and empty seats with the same nostalgic smile. Then he wiped the tear away and stood up, stretching.
Then his back shot with pain again and he almost cried out, "It's been getting worse..." He muttered, rolling his shoulders again. He looked around for where Relako could have gotten.

Relako quickly read the titles on the spines of the books as he walked down the shelves, stopping now and then to get a better look. Some of the 'titles' were gibberish, but based on the energy Relako could sense, those were small demons shaped like books. So he ignored those ones and continued glancing around at the other books. Almost everything on the shelves was about dark magic, and a lot of them in demonic languages, so it was understandable how the wolf had been able to point out that error in his spell. Near the back of the massive library, the shelves of books abruptly changed to racks upon racks of scrolls. Relako picked one out and opened it a bit, and was surprised by what was inside. Instead of it being a spell, as Relako had predicted, it seemed to be research notes. Relako rolled the scroll back to the top and began reading, figuring Keindo was probably still asleep.

Kiendo wandered to the stairs leading down into the library. He figured he was better off not wandering too far on his own, and more than likely Relako was down there. He came across the library and Relako reading something in the far corner, "G'morning," He said with a yawn.

"It seems our friend the wolf was as interested in magic research as you were." Relako said without preamble, flipping the scroll around so Kiendo could see it. At the top was drawn a fairly complicated magical rune: the kind you might see in ancient temples. Below it was a farily in depth analysis of the rune, written in the Ancient Demonic langauge. The hand writting was actually fairly elegant and organized, which one might not expect from an excited researcher.

Kiendo smiled, "Well that's a relief," He said, "And here I thought he was just a jerk. If he was this interested in magic research then he should have told me. I can only imagine the kinds of things he's found."

"He's found a hell of a lot." Relako said with a small chuckle, turning the scroll back around so he could keep reading it. "Mostly about dark magic though. Some really high level stuff though. Even I can't cast this spell." he muttered as his eyes scanned the text on the scroll intensely.

Kiendo swiveled around when he heard something knocking, "Someone got up here?" He questioned.

Relako glanced up quickly from his reading before returning quickly to the scroll. "You're imagining things." he said simply. It was conceivable that sound else could get up here to the sixth floor, of course, but Relako and Kiendo would probably hear fighting long before the other person reached them. "Anyways, I'm surprised you're not simply so engrossed in these notes that you wouldn't notice if someone cut off your head." he commented. When things like this popped up, Kiendo was usually wrapped up in them in a matter of moments.

Kiendo pondered for a moment. He must have been hearing things. So, time to explore again!
Kiendo went to where Relako was and was amazed at the scrolls there. The sheer number could have him busy for years, "Woah!" He said, his eyes wide. He pulled out his notebook and instantly started writing.
