I only want to reformat it once, so I'll do that after any changes

..Gaia Name: lily564a

..Character Name: Pebble (v1r0)
..Gender:Feminine Androgynous
..Age:24
..Species: Earth Elemental
..Skills:

..Physical Description:
Of the few really strong features of Pebble, the strongest by far is her color and texture, both of which are almost totally uniform, to a clearly unnatural degree. Her body is, when not in battle, composed primarily of a rich brown clay, wet enough to flow without cracking, but dry enough to not drip or slip or generally be gross and messy. She will often construct her clothing from clay as well, since normal fabrics are quickly soiled by her body, the familiar shapes of outfits serving only to provide comfort to her colleagues. Regardless of how tough they act, most men find it hard to operate normally in the presence o.f a naked female form.

To enhance this sense of normalcy she will usually alter her outfit to be similar to the sort of things the people around her are wearing, thicker clothing in the arctic, thinner in the desert, shorts at the beach, a dress at the party; If a uniform is in use she will try to approximate that. Exceptions to this include packs, and shoes. Packs because she can't easily replace their function with her body, the thin fabric of the contain is difficult to maintain with strength for any period. Shoes, or more often sandals, so she doesn't leave clay footprints all over the place, Similarly she will sometimes wear a pair of gloves, usually when in buildings or vehicles.

As to what she actually looks like, Normally she's about 5'8", a nice neutral height. Her features are decidedly Asian and clearly female, but still subdued, she is certainly far from curvaceous. A human female of her figure would probably weigh around 140lbs. Since she is made of clay she weights substantially more, though the exact number varies it will generally lie somewhere in the vicinity of 400lbs.

All that has been said so far is in reference to her body as per normal conditions, as her body is willfully constructed through her abilities it is easily and quickly varied to fit the situation. Still, assuming there is nothing extraordinary about the situation there will be some degree of regularity. One of the first thing any sort of amorphous creature will do in a fight is drastically reduce the detail of their form, details require consideration that most likely cannot be spared. Pebble's mouth and nose tend to disappear completely, and in general the head takes on the look of an armored helmet. Unnecessary appendages such as ears, the pinky fingers, and toes smooth over or merge with the limbs near them. Unless specifically needed important parts will merge into simplified versions; for example the pointer and index fingers form one claw like finger. Sometimes additional appendages are helpful, possibly a second thumb or tail

The second phase of 'battle mode' if you'd like to call it that is to enhance the materials of the body. Being made out of what is essentially a dense liquid one might believe themselves to be impervious to damage, but regardless of one's ability to reform themselves, the time spent doing so is wasted. To protect against that Pebble forms plates of dense stone from the clay of her body and the surrounding earth all over herself, like a disconnected suit of armor. The exact color of these plates depends largely on the materials at hand, if formed from the clay alone it can a dark coal black, but other materials may render it stark white, or perhaps pink, speckled or tie-dyed different colors if it has to be constructed of various materials. She also increases the general density of her body, allowing it to absorb blows easier, and turning her a much darker shade of brown in the process. With all these changes battle Pebble can weigh over a ton, but unaided her capacity for geoforming maxes out somewhere around five thousand pounds.

..Personality:
Pebble is in general calm, even difficult to excite at times. She has no strong urge to fight, or strong opinions on many subjects. She has trouble understanding society's near ubiquitous belief that sentient things are somehow superior, as many of her fondest memories are of simply being a rock. Where most people would probably agree that violence is rarely the best response, even if those same people will usually agree that it is their preferred, Pebble, if left to her own devices, would more often than not choose to not respond, or respond with the least amount of action possible. It's not that she's lazy or anything, something more along the lines of "The Universe has gotten this far on it's own, why should I mess with it now?" That said, she is aware that there are people out there messing with the universe in ways that will definitely not end well for anyone, least of all the universe. It is this that drives her to take actions she normally would not.

..Biography:
As with most earth elementals, Pebble began as a rock, then eventually became a little bit more, then eventually some humans got it in their head to summon something, and she was it. Pebble would have preferred if this had not happened. In a way still, she was lucky, by in large most humans only summon anything when they need something killed, or destroyed, or defended, and would rather not do it themselves; These humans were more interested in thinking. They weren't particularly good at thinking, but they liked to do it anyways. Pebble doesn't understand humans.

These humans kept Pebble for their thinking for a very long time, time enough for her to learn human ways, to talk, to read, to dress, to open doors. Humans do a lot of odd things. Shortly after what those who summoned her referred to as 'her nineteenth birthday' the facility she was being kept at came under attack. They struck fast and with great force, but were careful to leave most of the research intact. Given no reason to fight these intruders, and with them making no hostile moves towards her, she was taken into their custody. These people were not as interested in thinking, but they were far more interesting. They weren't dump people by any means, they were simply more interested in doing, Pebble wasn't sure this was an improvement, but there were fewer humans. She liked that.

As much as there is to be said for not doing things, there are still some enjoyable parts of doing things, these people calling themselves Outlanders taught her this, and lots of other stuff like how robots are evil, and fish are evil, and people are evil, well, lots of things are evil, it seems to be a prerequisite to not being in an Outlander. That said nobody's really been able to explain what 'evil' is. Life with the Outlanders was different, Pebble did more things, went more places, met more humans, some for better, some for worse. She also met many beings like herself, other elementals as well as other 'things'

Uh... why are robots and fish being evil?

cyNet3 and the Outlanders don't have any major outstanding conflicts and I have NO idea how fish got in there, 'cause Joe is the only one who freaks about fish.

I am hereby retracting this application
So much time has passed without response that I have not been involved with the character since the last draft was posted, I have lost touch with it and no longer feel confident in my ability to play Pebble.

Gaia Name: Rachetgirl11

Character Name:Angelo Juusan (Literal meaning: Angel 13)
Gender:Male
Age: 27
Species: Human
Skills: Swordplay, Academics, Small Unit Tactics.
Physical Description: Black, unkempt hair that comes down to his shoulders. Angelo has a light complextion, as well as Blue eyes that shine with warmth. He's very lean and fit, prioitizing dexterity over strength. He wears flashy, stage magician style clothing.
Personality: Angelo doesn't care much for the higher morality of his actions, but he does live by a moral code he has set for himself. He refuses to attack enemies unless they have already attacked him (i.e.: He doesn't knife guys in the back), he never kills a foe that has surrended, and he prefers to take his opponents alive.
Biography: Angelo grew up with a brilliant mind and excellent dexterity. He trained these skills to the point of absolute perfection, learning to use a sword in the process. When he turned 20, he joined a small, local mercenary group, and quickly rose through the ranks. He eventually took over and made the company powerful enough to compete on a world scale. Tragecally, the comapny was wiped out in a bombing raid that wiped the entire town the company was located in off the map. He survived because he was off on a mission. For the three years after, Angelo wandered around, offering his services to any groups that needed him. He sees an opportunity in the 4 major groups that are moving and shaking around the world, an opportunity to test his skills in a global arena.
Alliance:Currently, none.
Group Membership: None.
Supernatural Abilities: While he normally keeps this out of the limelight, Angelo's a mage. He is only able to use very small spells, like throwing a small fireball at someone, but not an exploding fireball, or a big one. Also, every spell he casts rips a little of his life away. (In other words: As his Mana decreases, so does his Health.)

((Quick note about his power: He can achieve any effect that he wants too, but such power carries the greater stigma of reducing his Health. His Mana is constantly flowing through his body, connected to his life force. In order to push out enough Mana to achieve what he wants, he has to create an artificial blockage in his own life flow. This manifests as headaches, nausea, internal bleeding, etc. He can cast a spell when the Drain would kill him, in which case he drops dead after casting from cardiac arrest.))

So I'm going to ask you each some questions, and how you answer them will affect whether or not I accept you here.

This is a quiz about your understanding of the setting, starting in now.

Okay, before I ask the questions, I have to say.

This isn't enough detail for 27. You see my profiles? Those are short. Those are bad. I need to rewrite them to make them technically acceptable. I got away with it because of kind of being half-in-charge but anyway detail is required and I'm not getting it out of here.

Also, I'm curious: She has under skills "swords." What is her skill with swords? Throwing them? Eating them? Also, she is a goo shot with a gun. So, err, she's a goo shot? And she holds a gun?

Anyway, the question is: How did she get the healing abilities? How do they work? What are the restrictions on them? They can't just be slow, they have to have a power source. What is that power source?

Okay. I like the idea of magic-overuse as being seriously negative beyond mana-loss. But I feel like his range is a little... over-broad. We eliminated a system we used before that restricted you to specific types of spell, and we did it to allow greater flexibility, but we didn't do so to allow you to cast any spell. I feel like I should ask you to - well cRAP nobody's done anything about disciplines.

Okay, well, instead I'll ask you to add a few more caveats. Learning magic takes a great deal of time. It's not just a "I'm capable of casting magic," it's a "I must learn to do so much as light my own finger on fire without hurting myself," sort of thing. So let's add a few more.. exceptions, shall we?

And that reminds me. How did he get this mana thing? Is it a birth defect? Was there some magical thing that happened to him? Maybe a leyline? It doesn't just happen by default, so I'm looking for an explanation.

You display a knowledge that there are four organizations, but who are they? Who runs them? Does he sympathize with any of them? How can he be completely amoral? There has to be something about that going up in his head. He can't just run contracts for everyone, someone's gonna get mad at him and make sure he disappears. Furthermore, how's he gonna fit into the story? Do you know what's going on with the various active characters? Which faction will you ally him with next?

Back to the personality: Okay, he doesn't care about the morality. But who is he? Is he funny? Is he laconic? He can't just be a stone-cold killer. Well, he can be, but you gotta tell us that. We gotta know.

Physical description question: Do you really think he'll survive in a battlefield environ with "flashy, stage magician style clothing"? It's a fairly modern battlefield, plus magic. How does he make it work? Does he have defensive magic? Is he just that good? We need details about little things like this.

You've got direction and you've got detail, and it's good, it's just not enough. That's all from me!

I spoke a non-truth!

There is a Wiki page on disciplines. I'd suggest choosing two or three, for the sake of the thing. Develop your powers more specifically and it'll be looking good.
PostPosted: Sun Nov 07, 2010 12:56 am

To be specific, Disciplines are a style of selecting what kinds of magical talents a person is going to develop; being just okay at a large number of things is not generally the way people choose to practice.

So there are people who practice specific Disciplines (spells grouped around a common power source, like elementalism, or that are grounded in a particular concept, like shadow magic), people who practice particular forms, like Panzermagi who pull defensive spells from many disciplines to create a magic style based around being invulnerable to everything, and there are demon-powered or angel-powered individuals who practice Arts-Angelic or Arts-Demonic, which are designed for beings who largely consist of mana using their own selves as their magic source without losing their grounding in this dimension (or for tapping into their powers from across dimensional boundaries).

PostPosted: Thu Nov 18, 2010 3:57 pm

Ok, I axed my last post because Angelo doesn't fit in well with 27. Instead, I would like to use a character that is far more in line with 27's setting. Here's his profile!

Gaia Name: Rachetgirl11

Character Name: Jack Griffen
Gender: Male
Age: Impossible to determine (See Supernatural Abilities)
Species: Human/Harrowed (Explained under Supernatural Abilities/Bio)
Skills:Gun Foo (A hectic martial art using guns), Double Pistols, Weaponsmithing, Intimidation, Chello-Playing (Specialty: Apocalyptica)
Physical Description: Shaggy brown hair, permanent peach fuzz for a beard (no lip hair). Wears a grey duster, and a grey Stetson. Underneath, he wears a black suit with a red shirt underneath. His eyes have black irises, with occasional flashes of red.
Personality: Jack is a little something of a gentleman. He went to England for a time, and learned a little about the arts of Chello and Dance. While he professes a deep dislike of war, the only place he feels alive is in the middle of a battle with his two guns blazing.
Biography: Jack was born in Alabama in 1812. How the hell is he still alive, you ask? Simple: In the Battle of Gettysburg, Jack's unit fearlessly charged the Northen lines. His unit got shot down, but he made it to the enemy and killed a good number of them before succumbing to several bullet wounds. So what happened? A type of demon, known as a manitou, decided to shove itself inside of Jack's head. The demon keeps his body going, and also endows Jack with a few powers. But, the demon keeps trying to take over, and it succeded...once.

In 1867, Jack got his hands on a little something called Reckoner Nerve Gas. He managed to hold onto it until World War 1, in which he sneak over to German lines and let it fly. The gas killed everyone on both sides, except him. No one knows how many died that day, and the manitou taunted Jack for months. 2 years after the war was over, Jack summoned up all his mental willpower and told the demon to SHUT THE ******** UP! It did, but it gave one passing sentiment:

"You have become as much a monster as I am, Jack Griffen."

For the years after, Jack learned as much culture and art as he could. He figured that a solider was no longer needed after the Great War (As it was called back then), so he tried becoming a gentleman. After several years, World War II broke out, and Jack volunteered his services as a black ops solider. He went behind German lines and exposed what Hitler was up too, causing the Allied forces to fight harder...with Jack right at the front, letting the Nazis have it with both pistols.

Jack worked for the U.S. military after WWII, participating in every major conflict the U.S. was involved in, including a six-hour war in a small third-world country that only happened because some terroists threatened to blow up a U.S building. But things have changed. There isn't really an army with a cause worth fighting for anymore. Disillusioned by the private fighting between alliances, Jack has taken to protecting the little man, the oppresed nations bending to the whim of the larger nations.
Alliance: Cabal Coalition (But he doesn't really care about them, he just joined because they put a gun to his head)
Group Membership: None.
Supernatural Abilities:
Harrowed: Jack has one weakness: Headshots. Unless an enemy is targeting his head, Jack is absolutely unkillable. He is knocked out for 24 hours once a normal person reaches "Dead" status.

Damned: No beneficial magic works on Jack, period. Bad magic frys him as usual, though. For example, a pissed off mage chucking a fireball at Jack will still burn Jack as normal, but the helpful mage trying to give him some type of protection from flame isn't doing anything except wasting Mana.

Spook:This one's just NASTY. When Jack uses Spook, the manitou temporarily jumps into his victim's mind. The manitou then exposes the poor victim to al the horrors of its home plane (Think Hell, but worse). This usually sends people over the deep end, and Jack really doesn't care. This little beauty (as well as all powers that Jack beats out of the manitou) counts as a Demonism school power.

Altered Effect: Healing: Jack cannot be healed by any normal or supernatural means. He can only heal by eating meat. If he eats meat, and then goes to sleep (whether forced or not, see next entry) in the same day, he heals one step. (He would go from, say, Green Health to Blue Health.)

Forced Sleep: Jack must sleep for 1-6 hours every night. He can fight this urge if he wants, but since the demon in his head controls all motor functions, he can be shut off like a light. He will awaken if danger threatens, but he might nod off while on watch. (Who cares about the rest of the party?) This basically means the lovely admins of this roleplay can make him sleep whenever they want.

Manitou possession: The demon in Jack's head is always trying to take control. The demon will randomly take control of Jack, and use his abilities to really mess stuff up. He won't force Jack to draw pistols and shoot the whole damn party, that's suicide for both Jack and the demon. But if he catches a party member alone...with no way to defend himself...you better pray that Jack can control the demon, or you may end up a Harrowed like Jack.
