Hope loosened her sword but decided against drawing it. She couldn't see and didn't want to harm her companions. She lit the dark lamp, but kept the visor down so no light would show. Hooking it to her belt and keeping a hand on the visor, she followed Raelise. She was very glad she had someone on either side of her who wasn't blind.

Zywynran did not put away the blade just yet. He felt confident that whatever had killed the spider was not coming their way, but too much confidence begat arrogance and stupidity. So he chose to prepare himself regardless of what he had determined. He slipped the stick of make up from his pocket once more, remembering to mark any cross points as Hope had suggested.

Eventually, they came into the chamber. But there was no dead spider in the room, instead, there was a clump of webbing in a cocoon like structure on one wall, with a large gash carved into the side. on the floor is what appeared to be a pick axe, something limp seemed to hang out the side of the webbing, slowly swinging back and forth.

Some chittering came down the passage across the room.

Cautiously, Raelise moved forward to check the limp thing hanging out of the cocoon, gripping the hilt of her sword with a relaxed but firm hand. With her free one, she motioned for Zywynran to keep an eye on the passage. She did not plan on getting ambushed.

Hope stuck close to Zywynran's back. She whispered, "What is it? What do you see?"

Nothing was visible down the hall, just the walls of the cavern. The chittering stopped shortly after it began.

Based on the airflow, it was obvious that this cave had no back entrance. The air was stale, and reeked of decay.

"Nothing coming. And that, I imagine, is quite dead now." Zywynran gestured to where Raelise was checking out the limp form hanging from the cocoon. He kept his voice low when he spoke and kept the rest of his thoughts to himself for now. Was that pick axe Dwarven? He thought to ask, but assumed Raelise would check. Besides that, he'd already heard the keep speaking down to a minimum speech enough times to make his ears bleed. How many miners was it that disappeared? He had rather presumed them dead, but perhaps they were not after all.

Raelise did not bother to shoot the half-elf an irritated look, although she certainly considered doing so; how many times would she have to repeat that silence was their friend? She would have thought that he would be tired of hearing it; she was certainly tired of saying it. Instead, one hand still on her hilt, she reached out to look inside the cocoon. She fully expected that whatever was inside would be dead, and had even before Zywynran's unwelcome expression of his opinion, but it did no harm to be prepared.

There was indeed a dwarf in the cocoon, drained of all its fluids. Though it didn't appear to have been that way long.

Raelise took everything in with professional detachment, and then turned to continue down the tunnel. It looked as though they were dealing with giant spiders... but giant spiders wouldn't have been a problem for a team of dwarves. Nonetheless, that dwarf had certainly been killed by one, or by something very, very similar. Quite the puzzler.

Down the hall came the sound of muffled rustling, like the sound of a sleepless child tossing blankets around its bed.

Once more, Zywynran took up the rear as the group continued down the tunnel. His ears strained a bit to pick up the soft rustling, but he said nothing. If he could hear it, the was no doubt Raelise could. He lightly tapped Hope's shoulder, then gestured to his ear. Listen. He did not really know the limits of human hearing, and so he erred on the side of caution.

The rustling continued, followed by what seemed to be a muffled voice. To pure Elven ears, it was fairly obvious that it was dwarven curses, but to anyone else, it seemed to be just a far off voice.

Again the Chittering came, this time a little farther off. Whatever was making it appeared to be moving farther away.

Raelise blinked. One of the dwarves was alive? She certainly hadn't expected that. She immediately picked up the pace in an effort to reach the speaker quickly, though she remained wary... Alright, wary was a bit of an understatement; she was growing increasingly jumpy, unable to shake the effects of being surrounded by cold, lifeless stone, like being buried alive... She shook her head sharply. Professional. She was a professional.

Zywynran easily matched the pace of the women ahead of him, but was still careful to make certain they did not lose their way. He too had heard the Dwarven curses and was as eager as Raelise to reach their source. Finding one of the miners alive could very well answer any questions they had. He was tempted to ask Raelise to switch places with him, but he held his tongue. The woman hid her discomfort well and she was more skilled than he; it would be foolish for him to give in to his sympathy.
