Wow thats alot of rabbits to die... i have 13 and the only ones who have died were either still born or died shortly after birth... Also there is a flea powder you can put on them but make sure its made for rabbits... I've never needed it... but i might buy some to keep in my rabbit suppies stock along with my wipes, disposable gloves, paper towels, sissors, nail clippers, plyers, and a few medical utensils my mom brought from work that could be useful...

Also i am expecting kits in 24 days XD WHEEEE! Babies! We bred a lop cause my uncle wants a couple of lops, they are cuter, and they will sell for more(as a pet not meat) at the livestock auction... Wheeeee! Babies! and then in a few months or so we will breed both my holland lops and get some purebreds! then i will test them to the ARBA standards! they probably wont be show quality though...

I would strongly suggest locating an ARBA judge, a lot of them will work with breeders and examine the parents for breed character flaws, the best rabbits come from the best stock, if that judge finds a flaw with your adult don't breed. You wont get anything worth while out of it and it will just cost you money.
Not true.... All lines start out with flaws.... you have to breed the flaws out of them...plus i am working on getting an orange spotted lop eared rabbit... it will not be under any breed standards....

Also this is for my personal enjoyment not profit.... all i care for is how well these rabbits are taken care of not costs...

Another thing... There is a way to get profit even if they are not a particular breed... You could always breed meat rabbits...

"Orange spotted lop ears" are under the majority of lop breeds as broken tortise shells, therefore yes, they do exist. I'm talking serious flaws, conformation flaws that influence muscle development and so forth, Meat breeders also look for particular things, if the rabbit is not the right quality for show does not always make it the right quality for meat either. Dwarf rabbits for example, have very stringy and tough meat, while Californian rabbits that are bred for meat and fur have a softer more well built meat when butchered out.

I know they exist... but i've never seen one... so how'm i gonna get one when i havent seen one and i live hours from the closest show and purebred breeder so thats an impossibility... Plus my mom will not pay 100 bucks to get me an actual purebred with 'papers' and whatnot she'd rather get one from my uncle(whom i am working in close relations with rabbit wise) but all he has are white ones with red eyes(all mixed) and one flemmish giant doe that he is not selling...

Ummm... A good quality show rabbit does not run 100$ trust me I've been there and done that for almost 17 years. The only rabbit I ever payed 100$ for was my blue eyed white buck, with excellent bloodlines and he was already a show champion.

Plus if the tort gene is not in the background of the rabbits you can breed all you like and NEVER get that color. Shows are not strictly in one location, they are held at multiple locations throughout the country. I live in IL, and have been to shows in TX. Plus if there is a breeder in your state, and you work with them enough often times they will either ship the animals or arrange to meet you at a midway point.

Distance, and limits are not an excuse to breed poor quality animals of any species. The ARBA, and it's breeders are not limited in their locations, and you would be suprised how many breeders you can get from the breed clubs that are not listed with the ARBA because of their size.

Please, look into it a bit more, and if you can't accomplish your goal till you're older yourself and can afford it then yes, put it off. I grew up with rabbits, and have worked my way through the rarest breeds, breeders will work with you because they want their lines to spread, and they want their breed to gain more recognition.

I have looked quite a few times and the closest show in this state is always 4 hours away or further...

You seem knowedgeble about the breeds and breeders... how much do you think i could get a couple of good Dutch rabbits or Rhinelanders for and where? Because if i do a specific breed then those would be it..

Dutch is more likely as they are more popular with breeders, Rhinelanders are a rarer breed and as such are more likely to be more expensive than what anyone would be willing to pay at this poin in time. As for breeders, you would have to look at the breed clubs, and the ARBA registry for local breeders.

I just skimmed the first couple pages, so I am sorry if I am repeating anything. Some treats are good for bunnies, but only sparingly. My bunnies LOVED bananas. And they make the cutest little chomping sound when they're eating them. They also enjoyed a little bit of peanut butter. not too much though. There are also little yogurt drops you can buy in the store. They're made by vitakraft if I remember correctly.

To the person that is looking for a house bunny, please check out http://www.rabbit.org/adoption/index.html and see if there is a House Rabbit Society in your area. There are a lot of people that get rabbits and don't realize that they require as much care as they do. They need room to run around in and play time outside of their cages.

When I had my rabbits, they were both leash trained and litter box trained. I kept them out of any room in the house that had exposed wires and they did just fine. The only time they were ever in their cages were at night or when I had to go out. Litter training them is even easy and makes the cage clean up a breeze. If you can get one young enough to leash train, they will love going out for walks. Mine were never happier than when they could have that "free" feeling outside. Just make sure you have them out ina calming environment as the buns will stress out easily. They let out an ear piercing scream when something scares them bad enough.

I think someone mentioned that their female buns fought? I had all of my bunnys spayed and neutered. That way they could be out together and they never went into heat. We didn't have any territory issues in the house after that.

taking care of rabbits are easy. whee they love room tempreture and eat left over vegies. dogs are known as "rabbit hunters"... if they're speed/hunting type dogs. sweatdrop

my dogs looove my rabbits XD they sniff noses, its sooo cute! one day, a few weks ago, i had Betty out to play in the garden and Dweezle was watching when i wasnt looking (cuz the dogs arent supposed to be by the garden when the bunnies are out) n they'r just kinda looking at each other and by the time i noticed Dweezle, he was just looking at her all bored so i didnt really say anythng. next thing i kno, Betty's glaring at him and stomping her bak paws! it was sooo funny! Dweezle was like "what's that????" looking arround. i did chase him away tho, i just thot it was funny, little Betty standing up to a 130 pound dog. whee

Just a piece of rabbit information I thought I would share. They fracture their backs very easily. I was always told not to hold them by the scruff of their necks because they didn't feel secure, but a vet told me he has to put lots of bunnies down for being picked up that way because they end up being paralyzed. This sort of happened to my dutch bunny el Pepe (aka BunBun). He spooked as my friend was lowering him into his cage and hit what turned out to be his back on the side of the cage. His lower half was completely paralyzed by the next morning.

So take care, bunny backs are very fragile.

My cousins got a rabbit and were telling me how evil, spiteful, and wicked the thing was before I ever saw him. He said it lunges at him, growls, shreiks, and chases him out of rooms and off furniture. I get to their house, full of fear and this cute little bunny hops over and begs to be picked up. He sits in my lap, head buried in my arm, for 4 hours! He was the sweetest thing I have ever seen! I never knew anyone who had rabbits before so I was surprised that he had the run of the housse! He has a small cage witha litterpan, water bottle, and food dish in it. They only lock him up at night! I didnt know you could do that!

Horror Inc. Art Contest - Open to All

I think a lot of people give their rabbits run of the house. The only friend I have with a rabbit keeps it locked in a tiny cage with food and water and she never plays with it or lets it out. Poor bunny.
