((Haha, it sounds like he's talking to his mom, lol!!))
She smiled again and tossed him the sealed container of fresh strawberries. "You're on cutting duty then." She turned back to the counter and stood on her toes to reach a skillet on the top shelve. Pulling it down she set it on the stove and turned to face him. "Cutting board is over there." She pointed to the strainer by the sink. "So you're all set to pull up wood then I guess."

Rain yawned mightily as she trudged down the steps wearing nothing but an oversized t-shirt that fell to her upper thighs as she headed into the kitchen for coffee. Having stayed up quite a bit longer than she meant to the night before even once she was at home she had some trouble sleeping from the excitement. Even now she was reminded of how much fun it had been as she saw her mask from the carnival setting lightly on top of her kitchen counter. Opening the fridge she pulled out some muffins and started a pot of coffee thinking over what had been said. Could she really run a bakery. There was no doubt the house was large enough and she could bake enough. If she could find someone who knew how to make real food she could make it a restaurant. Shaking her head to clear the thoughts she waited for the coffee to beep looking around for a clock. She knew it had been close to sunrise before she was asleep but it had been years since she had been able to sleep without dreaming. Seeing her message light flashing she had vague hopes that it was Lantis though she didn’t know why he would want to see her again. Walking over to push the button that was when she noticed the screen door was open flapping slightly where it hadn’t been shut all the way and the main door was open wide. Her mouth gaped open in horror as her color drained away from her face. I know I locked it! she thought in a panicked tone looking around the living room for anything that was misplaced or knocked over but as she walked past the fireplace she grabbed the poker. However as she checked the downstairs and up she started to feel silly brandishing it like a weapon. It was just a door. One she routinely forgot to lock. Looking at the basement door it was cracked and she thought she saw something but as she got close there was just shadows so she pulled it shut and by then the coffee pot beeped. Setting the iron poker onto the counter she grabbed a cup a poured herself some of the strong brew. Walking out to sit on the front porch railing with her muffin, Rain balanced her phone on the railing hoping she would hear from him. Hearing something click inside her house she started dropping her cup cutting her foot as she landed on the porch causing her to let out a yelp of pain. Glaring at her front door she scolded herself for being so jumpy because she forgot to lock the door. Of course being back in the house did that to her. Cradling her food she tried to get the glass out but only got the larger piece not able to see the others. Like the rest of her family had been, she was a bleeder and almost irritatingly accident prone.

[I know right? xD]
Gabriel caught the strawberries with little difficulty. "Guess so," he said with a slight smile. He moved to the sink, where he retreived the cutting board. He set it on the counter and began slicing the strawberries with a clean knife. It was quiet, and he was unsure of what to say. "So, um..." He laughed a little at his blank. His eyes met hers again. Why did she have to be so pretty? The thought brought back the moment he'd put his arms around her, and she'd leaned into him. "So what now?" "Um... coffee?" God, he was an idiot. He blushed ever so slightly as he realized he was staring at her. Nikki was nothing like his ex. He felt like she was close to him already, but it was entirely different than the friendship he and Lucy shared.

She liked him, that much was obvious to her. Logically it shouldn't be possible for such a bond to have formed between them so quickly, but then again, when is logic ever involved in matters of the heart?
And she knew there was some kind of feeling for her from him; the question though, was it the feeling she wanted?
She could feel him staring at her and fumbled slightly with the butter spray in her hands, spritzing the counter in the greasy stuff. Well, that was...graceful. Or not. Eh, oh well. Not like she'd ever been good at hiding what she didn't want to hide. Maybe it was a good thing he realize his staring at her made her flustered. Her cheeks tinged red at the thought. Maybe not such a good idea after all...

[[Grr... this post is so boring! Sorry. T^T]]
"Um, I'll get that," Gabriel said awkwardly as he set down the knife and picked up a sponge from the sink. He was careful not to glance so much as once at Nikki as he cleaned the counter off. That done he slid back over to his side of the kitchen and resumed the business of chopping fruit. Needless to say, he was a little more attentive than he was last time. The task was finished quickly. "What do you want to drink?" he asked, moving over to the fridge.
It made it so much worse that Lucy had assumed they liked each other. That had started him thinking about if they actually did. But that was impossible - hadn't he just seen her make a mess on the counter because he was looking at her? She probably thought he weird. No, that was too optimistic; she definitely thought he was weird.

((It happens, lol!))
Her arm bumped against his in her attempt to get out of the way as he wiped off the counter and she jumped slightly. His skin was really warm. She smiled slightly and couldn't help but to be disappointed when he stepped away from her. He was so hesitant around her.
She understood of course that he was worried about being hurt or betrayed again. But it still made her wonder if their relationship, if that's what it could be called, would ever move forward into something more. Of course they'd only known each other for two days...but still.
The batter was sizzling in the pan by the time he was at the fridge and when he asked what she wanted to drink her first thought was....well, him. She was being impatient.
The pancakes were finished on one side and before she could do something silly she turned back around to flip them. That done she turned back around to watch him. She could see the muscles in his arms moving slightly as he reached inside the refridgerator. God he was hot. Before she could stop herself Nikki stepped forward and pulled him away from the fridge, planting her lips on his before he could react.

Gabriel suddenly felt Nikki's hand on his arm. When had she gotten so close? Then she pulled him to her, kissing him firmly on the mouth. He was surprised to say the least, and maybe that was why he didn't pull away. Instinct took over and he put an arm around her waist, kissing her back as he brought her closer to him. He couldn't believe that she was attracted to him, but wasn't in the mood to question it. Then there was the aroma of pancakes beginning to burn.
He broke the kiss with a smile, but didn't let go, then looked over at the stove. "You couldn't hold that until after breakfast?" he asked, teasing slightly. Where had that come from? He looked back at her. Oh yeah, that was where. He felt slightly dizzy. The kiss was so spur of the moment, not that he had minded. Quite the opposite actually. He never would have had the confidence to do something like that. Well, maybe before three years ago....
No, he had to stop thinking about it. Not now at least, if only for Nikki. But he would be ready this time. He wouldn't expect anything from her. They had kissed, but that didn't mean they would last, as much as he hoped for it. Wasn't it crazy, how fast peoples lives could change? Just by coincidence she happened to not be paying attention. Coincidentally, he was there to see her. And even more suprisingly still, saving her had led to the first step in saving himself. God, that sounded cheesy. But she was definitely helping.

His reaction was not what she had expected but Nikki certainly wasn't objecting. He was warm against her and when he pulled away slightly his breath tickled her cheek and she smiled giddly. She'd been so scared that he was going to push her away and leave; but Nikki had never been one to let her fears stop her, not after she'd been trying to regain her self-confidence the past couple of years.
The smell of the burning pancakes was getting stronger and she knew they had to come off the burner; but she didn't want him to let go of her....darn. Oh well. She'd made the first move so it was up to him to make the second. She wondered if it would be interesting...
Raising her eyes to his she let another smile form. "I can't save breakfast if you don't let me go."

Gabriel grinned. "That's true," he admitted. He relenquished his hold on Nikki and resumed searching the fridge for drinks again. He grabbed himself a bottle of water in addition to the coffee already sitting on the table. After that he leaned against the counter watching Nikki "save" the breakfast. The kiss was a relief in a way. It showed that she liked him at least. And she even knew about his past - something few could say.

As she slipped from his grasp Nikki could feel her palms tingling from excitment. It had been a very long time since she'd felt like this. Grabbing the spatula she quickly flipped the pancake onto the plate next to the stove and was not surprised to see it was nearly black on the bottom. Oh well. It was definetly worth it! She couldn't keep the smile off her lips as she poured more batter into the skillet.
Leaning back against the counter she turned to him again and watched him as he watched her, her head tilted to the side and her cheeks slightly red. She smiled.

Gabriel's own lips turned upward at seeing Nikki's smile. "Stop it," he said (not seriously), starting to laugh a little. She still made him nervous. "Need me to do anything else?" he asked. It didn't seem fair that Nikki would have to remake the pancakes while he stood around.

"Eh....there isn't really..." she said after a moment as she turned to flip them again. This time they were a golden brown hue and smelled much better. She slipped them onto the plate and once again poured the batter, unsure of what to say.
Nikki honestly couldn't remember the last time she'd been so short on words. She smiled again and offered up a sheepish grin. "Sorry?"

"No need to be sorry," Gabriel said with a smile.
(Drawing a blank. xD)
The pancakes were eventually finished and the two sat down eat their breakfast. "You know, there are two good things that came of the burnt pancakes," Gabriel said, sipping at his coffee.

((Heh. I know right? Think we should go ahead and jump to something else?))
She smiled again and brushed a loose strand of hair out of the way, pushing a few peices of the pancake around on the plate. "Oh really?" She picked up her orange juice and took a sip, watching him. "And what prey tell are those things?"

( feel free. ^^'' )
Gabriel returned the smile. "Well, you know the first pancake is always a flop - it's like the pancake curse," he said and took a bite of the pancakes. Once he finished he continued, "See? Delcious." He glanced at her. "The other reason... that kiss might've been better than pancakes with strawberries. But just maybe." He grinned.
