Echo flashed her father a bright smile. "Yes..." She cuddled the little egg in her fins, trying to keep it warm. "I think they need to go in a central place so they can be watched by someone at all times."
Seren emerged into the big outer room towing Cy behind her. She smiled at Mect, knowing he'd not seen her new form yet. "Hey, Mect. How have you been?"She squeezed Cy's hand, lacing her fingers with his.

"I've been good!" If he was surprised at her appearance, Mect sure didn't show it. "You didn't have to go get all gussied up just for me, you know." With a motion at where Echo was already gathering up the eggs, he added, "Brought a couple of newcomers for you guys to get started with." He didn't want to add that he thought there'd be a *lot* more coming...
Cy squeezed her hand back, then took in the sight of his sister, cuddling an egg close to her chest. She's going to make a terrific mother.

"Eggs!" Seren darted over, picking up the other two eggs. She swam back over to Cy and perched on his lap, wrapping her arms around both eggs and cuddling them close to her chest as she leaned back on Cy.
"Seren? Where do you think the eggs should be? I think they should be someplace where everyone can keep an eye on them. Any ideas?" Echo watched her brother with Seren. They're so happy together. I wish I had something like that. The thought only made her cuddle the egg closer.

Mect watched as Cy wrapped his arms around Seren, the younger male watching the female with an expression on his face that wasn't familiar to Mect. Looks like the boy's found his one. Good for him. A smile crept over his features as he watched the two together.
Contenting himself to nuzzle his love's hair, Cy figured he'd let Seren and Echo decide what went where best.

"I agree, we need to make up a nursery out of one of these rooms." Seren felt safe in his arms. She knew this is where she was meant to be, and she looked forward to the day when the eggs in her arms were her own.
Echo nodded her head in agreement, keeping silent. She held the egg close and swam off in search of the perfect room for the nursery.

~~~~~~~~Chapter 6~~~~~~~~ Cy settled back in the egg room, holding one of the eggs in his lap and stroking it absent-mindedly. His thoughts were elsewhere, playing the last couple of weeks over in his head. He, Seren, and Echo had all fallen into a comfortable pattern with one another, taking turns watching over the eggs as they were brought in, entertaining Mect when he made his occasional appearance. More often than not it was one of the other betas that brought eggs out to the trio, stopping long enough to pass on gossip about the outside tanks before heading out again. Not that Cy minded, but it was a strange notion to him, giving one's eggs to another to care for. Which brought his mind back around to the thought that had been cropping up repeatedly over the last few days. Eggs of my own. Eggs with... And there he always forced himself to pause, not wanting to entertain the daydream before finding out if Seren felt the same way. He knew that she loved him deeply, but was that what she envisioned their relationship heading to?

"Cy?" Seren swam through the large house looking for him. She finally found him in the nursery, holding one of the newer eggs apparently lost in thought. "Is something bothering you?" she asked him as she swam over, moving the egg and settling in his lap with the egg in her own. "I think we might be getting new eggs soon..." She laid her head on his shoulder, wondering what he was thinking about.

She always seemed to appear just as he was thinking of her, which made Cy smile. Shaking the tangle of thoughts from his head, he wrapped his arms around her waist. "No, nothing's bothering me. Just thinking." Resting his chin on her shoulder, he looked down at the egg in her lap. This was one of the ones with a little halo over the embryo within, and it never failed to amaze him, watching the eggs grow into fry. "New eggs, you say? D'we know where from?"

"Well, My mom's got so many eggs in her tank to take care of now that she's going to bring a few over here to us. Namely one of my new little brothers. My Parents had another batch of eggs." She beamed at the thought of helping to raise one of her new siblings.
Seren played idly with the little egg in her lap, tracing the halo with her fingers. She felt completely safe in Cy's arms, somehow she knew this was where she wanted to stay, forever.

"Wow, they're busy. How many did they get this time?" Seeing as how Seren's parents were one of the few sets of mated beta that he knew of, Cy was intrigued by the idea, wanting to know as much about it as he could learn. After all, if this was going to be what he asked Seren to enter into with him...

"They had four eggs this time, two boys and two girls, we think. Not nearly as big as their first, which was five and I ended up being the oldest, but close enough to still be pretty hectic. Plus, poor mom has all of Ianna's eggs and the abandoned eggs to take care of too since their parents won't. I figured that one more egg here wouldn't be a problem." She was more than happy to talk about her family. She missed them, but she knew that she would miss Cy even more.

With a soft chuckle, Cy turned his head to nuzzle her ear. "One, two, twenty... I'm sure we could handle whatever life decides to throw our way." Damn, but he loved this woman. The only question was, how exactly does one go about asking another to be their mate? Just pop the question out? That seemed kinda blunt to him.

"Yes, we could." Seren turned in his arms to kiss him gently. She wrapped her right arm around his neck, keeping her left around the egg in her lap. "I love you." She didn't think she could ever tell him how much she loved him, so she tried to show him as much as possible.

"I love you, too," he murmured softly, before returning the kiss. Then, since he supposed that it would be better to start this conversation sooner, rather than later, Cy asked, "Have you given any thought to... where we go from here?"

Seren took a moment to think about his question. "From here? You mean for us, together?" She bit her lower lip, a habit she'd developed as she'd also been thinking alot lately. "I hadn't wanted to give too much thought to it because I didn't know if you wanted anything more, and I didn't want to scare you off by planning too far ahead. I WANT us to stay together for the rest of our lives. I love you so much, and I can't even think of how I'd be able to live without you now.." Her voice trailed off as she realized that every little thing she'd thought about over the past few weeks had come spilling out of her mouth.
