"The Yōkai are Japanese," Laura said passively, but agreed with eh possibility. "Japan has a lot of shapeshifting monsters in their myths. Spiders, dogs, foxes, cats, badgers... all the sort of things that wouldn't seem out of the ordinary here. People wouldn't notice an extra stray dog or something. Maybe they've been pissing off the local "wildlife" and taking people. "But I agree- we need to go back to the woods. I'm safe from falling trees, Mo's safe from falling trees, but Izzy?" She turned to him, "Do you have a quick way to get out from under a tree?" Admittedly, Laura did not believe that the hidebehinds would try the same trick twice, but one could never be too careful.

Izzy swayed a nervous grin "I honestly don't know......I suppose I could mimic a puppet of myself to follow you or use a shikigami paper clone." he paused for a moment perhaps thinking of a way his powers could help him.

"You might want to come up with something just in case. A shield or something, maybe. That wouldn't stop a tree, but it could stop a lot of crap." She scratched her head. "I really don't know what to prepare for."

"This is truly a puzzling mission indeed" Izzy thought. He wanted a strong reliable plan to protect himself and possibly the others...to honestly say he still was feeling a very uneasy stare upon him and he shuddered coldly.

(Okay, I've had it.)
Laura followed Izzy's gaze but saw nothing in his line of site. "If you're more comfortable waiting here, I can go alone," she offered.
(HDA, let's just assume Mo is staying with the truck or something.)

Trivia_Master (Okay, I've had it.) Laura followed Izzy's gaze but saw nothing in his line of site. "If you're more comfortable waiting here, I can go alone," she offered. (HDA, let's just assume Mo is staying with the truck or something.) (ok) "I cant let you do that.." he replied with a burst of inner courage "That would be improper and immoral to let a comrade go by themselves." Izzy hopped over to the driver's side "I know Mo-J can fend for himself...but your water power might not be enough.."

"Well, it's not water... just liquid. And you're right, it's not an offensive talent, but useful for staying alive." She paused, and took a few steps toward the forest. "But really, I completely appreciate you coming with me." Laura smiled, turned back toward the trees, and pulled out her weapon. Just in case.

In most instances, if someone had asked Laura if she liked nature, she would have said yes. This was not one of those times. As she plodded through the hemlock forest, she kept noticing hidebehinds in the corner of her eyes. She'd seen several of them now, but only fleetingly. "I keep thinking they're gonna jump out at us," she commented aloud to Izzy. Then she stopped in her tracks and turned a full three-sixty. "We aren't gonna hurt you," she hollered into the trees. Twigs cracked and fallen leaves rustled as the timid shadows ran away. Laura tried to turn to see them, but they were too quick. She muttered pointedly, "If they weren't so scared of everyone, they'd make wonderful agents."

"like co-op ninjas." Izzy commented frankly "their stealth abilities are impeccible.." he smiled only slightly and peered around without showing any sign of movement.

Laura nodded approvingly, pleased and amused by Izzy's analogy. "Let's go to the top of the hill over there and then we should rest and look around. Soon enough, they passed an uprooted tree. It was on his side, and petty damaged. Some squonks were shedding tears silently for the fallen hemlock. "This was probably the tree that smashed Mo," she murmured.

Noticing the fallen growth, he felt himself sink a little with doubt. The feeling he had before grew stronger and it seemed more malevolent than anything else. Within the hallow of the forest he faintly listened as the words rang smoothly with a gentle but dark nature "inot de moure...."
