He listened to the sounds of Seizan making his escape, hoping he would be ok but not really worrying about the Nosferatu. Those in the Masquerade could take care of themselves relatively well.

"Don't worry, Luca. He's just fine. Probably didn't even notice you were firing at him. You have pretty good aim, but so do I."

He smiled reassuringly and offered to help Nightingale to her feet.

Nightingale smiled and took the offered hand standing up and straightening her dress feeling a little embarassed with all the other people surrounding them.

She smiled at the others trying to assess them. "Who are they?", she asked Kryss curiously...

He felt the unease radiating from Zareb, and a glance in the half-demon's direction told him why. Something about Luca's gun bothered the half-blood, although he did not know what, exactly. Maybe he would find out later. If he needed to know, he could find it burried somewhere in the demon's mind, but he didn't think he really needed to know.

"Ready to go, Luca? Or do we need to wait for more vampires of yours to show up?"

He kept all traces of sarcasm out of his voice with the ease of much practice, but he did not bother keeping it out of his eyes. There was not much point to that, anyway, as the sardonic tone of his words were there whether it was heard or not.

"Don't worry, your sarcasm has gone...let's say 'unpunished'...for now." Luca retorted. "A few members of my family were worried about Seizan, that is all." He was lying, of course. The demon the group had run into was on the Giovanni clan's hit list, and they wanted Luca to do something about it.

Kryss smirked at Luca's choice of words, wondering just what the other vampire meant and deciding that it didn't really matter, considering whatever it was had very little chance of harming him.

He turned to Nightingale with a smile, wondering himself who it was that had found him this night.

First the coven leader the night before, and now the half-demon and the masquerade vampire with his "friend."

"I would like to know as well, cherie. And why they're here now, of all times, when that demon is running around somewhere below the city."

The more paranoid side of him considered trying to convince him it was some sort of plot to take his city from him, but his rational side refused to believe such a thing. Besides, why this of all cities?

He had never believed in destiny before, and now chance was just as irrational in his mind, but it didn't matter. He would deal with things as they came, and not before.

"If you wouldn't mind, I'd like to go after the demon now" Luca said in a cheerful tone, "I think....AAAAAGGGGHHH!!!" Luca gripped his head in an obvious look of severe pain. Something was causing this, but it seemed only Luca's senses could perceive this.

A, reverberating, beautifully musical voice says, "Poor, poor Luca. Seizan run away from you already? Too bad. The family sent ME to back you up instead."

He was concerned, and worried even, about Luca, but he couldn't make himself approach the vampire. He had plenty of meaningless excuses for this: To show concern was to show weakness, etc, etc, but only one reason, and that was hidden from him behind veils of fog and smoke, the lies he told himself to keep his sanity intact.

So he stood still, Nightingale's hand in his, wondering what was going on and what he could do about it and whether or not the newly embraced vampire could handle whatever this was on his own.

He had not signed up as a babysitter, after all. He had not signed up at all. Indeed, it had, in a way, been these others who had joined him, though for what purpose, he was not certain.

They seemed so interested in destroying the demon, while he was perfectly content to leave it be. Every being needed to eat, after all. Humans killed all the time for food. Was it so very different if it was a human who was killed instead of a cow or a pig?

Then again, most of the body had been there, as far as he could tell, and if the demon had fed on anything at all, it had been something intangible and therefore infinately more dangerous. The stronger demons fed on things such as souls or even emotions, and it was a general rule that the average demon could not without extensive training and study.

It worried him, but not as much as Luca's current...'problem.' What was wrong with him? And if there was something he could do to help, what was it and would he do it?

"Just shut it and stop wailing, you banshee" Luca spat, staggering to his feet, "If you're here to help then so be it."

"That's all I wanted to hear....hubby." The woman then materialized, putting an arm around Luca's shoulder and smiling what seemed to be a cross of maliciousness and caring.

Zareb looked around at his companions curiously and waited

"I hope we're not...disturbing...anyone here," the woman smiled again.

"Honey, I think I've disturbed them plenty" Luca said.

It was his life and his life only to control. Unlife, rather. This woman was an unfortunate consequence of his change.

Nightingale just observed at what was happenning around her.

"Curious.", she said. "All these things that are happening here does not seem by chance. All of these seem to be connected.", she said more to herself than to anyone. It was just a feeling, intuition perhaps, but she can find no other explanation to it.

Theres no doubt though that the banshee that had just appeared frightened her a bit.

She turned to look at Kryss with an expression saying,

What now?

His instincts were telling him to leave. To run far away until all of this was over, and then return when the strangers were gone. He wanted time to think, to be alone, to consider what he was doing and why, but that time was elusive this night. Strangers appearing and others running away, a demon loose in his city that had attacked a woman the night before.

He wanted to leave, but he didn't want to leave Nightgale, who seemed to be just as lost as he thought he was. Maybe if she hadn't been so new to the city, or if there weren't so many strangers, or if the demon hadn't slaughtered anyone.

He sighed wearily, so softly he almost didn't hear himself.

He turned to Zareb who seemed to be the most sane and patient of all present. "You're looking for the demon, right? He's probably in the sewers. If you'd prefer not waiting around for these...people to figure out why they're here..."

He let the thought trail off, wondering if the half-blood would continue his search without the vampires and hoping he would stay at the same time. Then again, he could just follow Zareb himself. Not every section of the sewers lived up to the name. One place in particular he was thinking of, where the neon lights drifted down to shine on a mural, making it look alive. Nightingale would like it, he thought.

"He's mine!" Luca and the woman both said simeltaneously.

"Hear this," Luca continued, "I do not care whatever grudges you might have against this....Ahkmellidan..."

"...But we are killing it, not you. Our...lives...depend on it."

Zareb looked towards Luca "hey if your life depnds on it by all means kill him....but i warn you if he shows his face again I will attack"

Turning to face Kryss he thought for a moment "would you mine showing me..or us around in the sewers....i mean after all you know them better than we do"

And it's always safe to travel in numbers he thought

"I'm sorry if my wife and I come off as mean to you," Luca apologized, "All we really need is the thing's head."

"I don't need you to apologize for me, Luca,"
said the woman, "And I still haven't introduced myself. my name is Andina, Andina Giovanni."

"Pleased to meet you, Mrs. Giovanni. You may call me Kryss, if you wish. Welcome to my city; or to my sewers, as that seems to be where you're headed." He looked over at Zareb as he continued, "I would, of course, be delighted to help you find your demon if Miss Nightingale would care to accompany me."

He turned to Nightingale with a soft smile, "Cherie, I can swear to it that the sewers are not all as bad as they sound. Of course, some places live up to the name, but some are almost..." He streched out his hand palm up and gathered shadows to paint a picture in monochrome of the mural and the lights. "...pretty," he finished, enclosing the shadows in his hand and releasing them.

Nightingale took a moment to answer. I guess it wouldn't be so bad... after all I wanted to tour the city, she thought. She smiled back at Kryss and said, "I would be delighted."

She turned to look at Andina and smiled. "It is a pleasure to meet you too Mrs. Giovanni." She said good naturedly.
