((FerretFreak, yeah, you can go right ahead. They're NPCs, so anyone can control them, but keep it down to a minimum--the focus is on your character. Controlling teachers can help with your character's situations and interactions, but they're not the ones you're playing. Tobi, Busterman, good luck on your duel! I'll post my reply to Selphie a little later after I finish my homework!))

"Now I hope you all have been paying attention...," Lady Oceana said. Rhm jerked out of his daydream and sat up straight. "Because I have a little test for you."
There was a moan that traveled all away around the room and Oceana smiled, "Not that kind of test. Just a little... assessment." The room quieted down as she began to hand out cups of tea on little saucers. Rhm took his reluctantly and set it on his desk.

"I want you all to try and get a small prediction from the leaves. As you know, tea-leaves are vague at best, but are simple. Please begin, and raise your hand when you have your prediction ready."
Rhm swirled the tea around three times to the left and once to the right like he had been told. He then carefully poured it out into the basin at the head of his desk. He splayed his fingers on the opening so that the liquid poured out and the leaves and twigs stayed inside. He then carefully set it upside-down on the saucer and waited for the rest of the moisture to settle out.
"I wonder what we'll get," Pan said curiously.
"Oh please," Rhm thought back, "like we can get our fortune from soaked twigs and leaves." But he was curious despite himself. Other students had already yelled out their symbols. Most were Acorns and Apples, a few Bats which represent a fruitless task (to their teacher's amusements). One girl got a Crescent Moon which set her face ablaze with embarrassment as her friends good-naturally laughed at her (Lady Oceana smiled and explained that a Crescent could simply mean a time of newness, and didn't necessarily foretell pregnancy). An agitated boy claimed he had a Cross, but the teacher assured him it was only a Hammer.
Rhm waited the full minute before turning his cup over. What he saw seemed to be nothing more then a round smudge with some lines. He grimaced in disgust. "See, told you it wouldn't work," he said.

Lady Oceana walked over to his desk. "What did you get, Rhm?" she said.
"Nothing, just a smudge," he said with a sigh.
"Let me see." She picked up the cup, looked at it, and a slow frown formed on her face.
Rhm waited anxiously until he realized that everyone in the room was looking a him and Oceana. He couldn't stand it anymore. "Well... what is it?" He asked slightly timidly.
The elegant teacher set the cup back down. "The Clock," she said quietly, almost thoughtfully. There were a few gasps, but Rhm had no idea what the Clock symbol meant. He quickly flipped through his battered textbook to the 'C's. Pan saw it before he did and Rhm felt a little shiver in her mind. "Death...," she said. Rhm felt that same chill run down his spine.

Lady Oceana smiled calmly, but Rhm thought he saw a tightness in her features. "Now, now," she said, "Let's not get all dramatic. A Clock can mean nothing more sinister then coming change." She looked at Rhm. "The Clock is a Far symbol. It takes some skill to be able to look that far with the leaves." She patted his shoulder. "Good job."

"o.k, lets do this," acarian said to the brown-haired boy. he increased his leg strength to give him more speed, and shot out like a rocket at his opponet. drawing close to him, acarian threw his body weight around in a piviot and brought his sword down in a vertical attack right at his target.

Kuragari sat against a back wall watching the fight. She really didn't care who won but Kuragari did love a good blood fight. Smirking with reddining eyes Kuragari watched as the first attack was made. 'Idiots why fight unless your life is on the line.' Kuragari started shaking her head in a 'no' kinda way.

Looking around she saw that girl who had helped her out yesterday. 'I wonder if she'll run from me if I go over there? Or will she accept me. Then again do I really care.'

Aqua looked boredly up at the teacher as she spoke. "Okay class, today is a purely theory lesson, so please take out your textbook and open them to page five, simple transfiguration spells." Aqua sighed as she took out a textbook, flicked trhough and came to page five. she took out a out a pen, waiting for the teacher to say something else. Ms. Morning star started talking about the basics of magic practice, and then some of the more advanced techniques. Aqua listened, not really paying to much attention.

Tristelle pushed her hair away from her eyes as she watched the fight begin. It was obvious the one who had attacked first had talent, she almost regretted declining to the sparring match. Her next class was magic, which was very exiting to her. Music and archery would also be fun. She was immensely grateful that this school didn't teach things like math or science.

As much as she tried to ignore the nearly heavenly scent coming from the human who had started the sparring match, her senses just wouldn't allow it. It was too tempting. She sighed and stepped away from the group of people gathered around to watch the fight, and leaned on a wall towards the back of the gym.

((Augh...AP is a fiend. x_x Tomorrow I have off, so I'll see what I can do about that. Sorry for the wait, Selphie.))

Asako pretty much ignored most of Mr. Brown's lecture, instead choosing to alternate between talking to Anne via notebook -a rather inventive way of communication without talking, she thought. It must be a human thing- and sneaking glances at the human Anne had been admiring.

He was a little too vanilla for her taste--every inch of him screamed 'human', which was no Asako's type at all. She liked her partners more exotic. But the mere fact that she might very soon have the chance to set her new friend up with a guy she liked was reason enough for her to be interested.

Looking back to the notebook, she scrawled in her messy print, So, the guy's pretty hot, right? Pausing to grin to Anne -holding out the moment for effect- she then wrote the all-important sentence. Want me to help you out? (;

She only noticed that something was wrong when she suddenly sensed all the class's attention on her. "Miss Nakajima?" Mr, Brown asked, for what was probably not the first time.

"Oh, uh, yes, sir?" Asako said, suddenly flustered. It wasn't that she was all of a sudden in the spotlight--it was that there was a distinct possibility that the next words to come out of the teacher's mouth would be a question she did not know the answer to.

"Could you please tell me, Miss Nakajima, where the pronoun is placed in modern forms of Elvish grammar?"

Bingo...ugh! Asako thought. Searching desperately for an answer, her eyes found none. "Um, uh..." she stammered, trying to buy herself time. Well, if I can't look smart, she thought to herself, I'll just have to look clever. "Beats me--maybe you should ask Tolkien." she asked, voice just the right mix of hesitancy and wit.

The class -or at least those that got the reference- erupted with laughter, and Asako grinned herself. Mr. Brown, however, was not amused. "Miss Nakajima," he said, voice stern and rather miffed, "See me after class."

Oh, crap... Asako thought.

He was undoubtedly fast. Mori had little less than a few seconds to dodge. Blocking it was a horribly stupid idea. Mori jumped back, one foot leaving the ground, but he wasn't fast enough. The blunted blade slammed into his forearm, spinning him like a top. He didn't have enough traction to stay on the ground, so he rotated, then fell to the earth with a thud. "Damn." Mori muttered, laying facefirst on the ground. He picked himself up on his 'uninjured' one. The arm that had been struck now bared a nasty purpley-looking bruise.

This was a simple duel, Mori wasn't prepared to do anything crazy. Say, use his puppet. It'd be in bad taste, and this wasn't a fight to defend honor, or to save his life. He spun the blade in his hand, bringing it in a horizontal one-handed strike.

Everyone had all but forgotten about Rhm's little tea-leaf omen. It didn't take very long at all, really: it was just another thing that happened. Lady Oceana made sure everyone cleaned up then stood at the front of the room. She waited patiently for the class to become completely silent.

She spoke quietly and enunciated every word carefully. Rhm found himself leaning forward to catch every word she said, and saw others doing the same. "Divination can give great insight into your present, your past, or even your future," she said, "There have been many cases where the smallest prediction or warning can save someone's life, and countless more that just make someone feel happy. But," she looked in each one of the students eyes as she spoke, "There are just as many cases, where they may ruin someone. Don't follow you predictions like a path. All that path will lead you to is insanity."
Rhm was barely aware that his heartbeat had sped up.
"Use them as you would use a compass. Let them guide you, not control you." Lady Oceana's eye's lingered on Rhm's as she spoke the next part. "One last thing. Any prediction... any... can be changed. All you need to do is trust you instincts. They may serve you better than any cup of tea ever could."

She sharply clapped her hands and Rhm jumped back in his seat. Oceana's smile had returned. "Since this is the first day of school and it's a beautiful day, I'm going to let you go early before second period starts. Class dismissed!"

The chatter returned with a vengeance and Rhm was swept up in the crowd. Out into the hall he went and practically danced away from the throng of people and began walking down the stairs to the outside. "Well she certainly is dramatic," Pan said. Rhm nodded and the sun hit his face, instantly putting his smile back. "Eh, I kind of like her. At least we know Divination will be an easy class," he replied. He felt a little silly for being so caught up in the drama before In the sunlight, some prediction made by a bunch of soggy leaves seemed very trivial. He broke into a run across the grounds. Most people were still in class and they had the wide expanse mostly to themselves.
"Where are we going?" Pan asked curiously.
"I don't know!" Rhm grinned and just kept running, his hands back and his face forward into the wind. It felt great to work off the tension he had felt just a few moments ago. In seconds, he had crossed half the field. He slowed to a stop and flopped down on the grown. The grass grew up past his ears and the sun was high up in the sky. He closed his eyes.
Pan stood on his stomach and looked at him balefully. "We don't have that much time before our next class, you know."
"Aw quit worrying," he said with his eye's still closed. "We've got at least twenty minutes."
Pan rolled her eyes but kept quiet, enjoying herself.

After maybe ten minutes, Rhm abruptly rolled back and hopped up to his feet. Pan flowed up his leg and onto his shoulders and he made his way back to the school. He moved at a much slower pace this time, basking in the sun rays.
"Aren't you sick of the sun and open fields by now?" Pan said humorously.
Rhm shrugged. "Old habits die hard, I guess."
They walked the rest of the way in the completely comfortable silence that only really close friends seem to be able to do without effort.

((no prob! I totally understand you, college isn't being kind on me, either... xd ))

Selphie was so dumbstruck at Asako's blunt question she didn't even notice Mr. Brown approaching. When she saw him, it was too late, and she was unable to sneak her friend the answer.
But the girl's retort made her laugh out loud, as well as at least half the class. After the teacher was a safe distance away, she whispered "That was amazing! Only you to have such nerve...don't worry, it's just first day, he won't be too hard."
Squeezing her friend's shoulder for comfort, she smiled and scribbled He is quite hot...but there may be better! I'll want to know him, but for now that's all...^_^ on the margin, while winking. Seeing the teacher eying them again, she gave him her best innocent, interested student look. She was quite good at that.

"childs play," acarian said as he saw the blade coming at him. he turned his hand into a talon covered in scales and caught the blade. an evil grin spread accross his face as he speared his sword at his opponet.
PostPosted: Wed Sep 12, 2007 5:08 pm

Mori looked shocked, sidling sideways to avoid the jab. He tried to pry the blade from the taloned hand, but could not. "Yeah..." Mori said nervously, dodging a few more blows by a coupe of inches. "Isn't the point of the exercise to use the blade as a combative tool?" But he shouldn't have wasted his time making a curt inquiry. The blunted tool him in the midsection, causing him to keel over and throw up. "G-good job..." he spluttered, wiping his mouth on his arm, hobbling up.

acarian smiled and helped the boy up. "i've been using a katana all my life, so i have had a little practice," acarian grinned. "well, that was a great duel! i must say i'm impressed!" theteacher cogradulated them both. acarian walked back to the crowd and took a seat, waiting for what to do next.

Mori stumbled back to the spot he'd been sitting in before the duel, ashamed and sickly-looking. There were a few chuckles in the crowd, but he dismissed them, trying to focus on the teacher. It wouldn't do him any good to dwell on this humiliation.

Miss Delacroix smirked. "Now that the demonstration's out of the way, I'd like to get to today's aim: Stance Breaking." When she said this, some of the students looked up. "This technique is important. It makes your enemy vulnerable, and done unpredictably, it can be a surefire way of gaining the upper hand. "

She continued, surveying the class. "Now, stance breaking is made up of three parts: the first part is waiting for the to show an opening, and catching them off guard. The legs are an opportunistic place to strike." Miss Delacroix paused, drawing a diagram on a small, wheeled blackboard. It depicted one stick figure kicking the other's leg from under it. There was a frowning face drawn centimeters from the victim's head.

"Next," she said, "You want to make several swift cuts around the opponent's torso, causing them to lose balance." Miss Delacroix paused again, looking at the half-attentive class. "It's important to remember not to put any full amount of strength into any one strike."

"The last part of a Stance Breaking technique is a heavy vertical or horizontal blow." The teacher stopped to catch her breath. "You'll have plenty of time to tense a muscle or two, so don't worry about being slow. You want to put maybe... 80, 90% into the final strike. Any questions? No? Then find a partner, and practice the technique."

Mori's ears perked up. He didn't feel nauseous anymore, but he did have a bruise on his stomach. Some way to start the first day... he began to search.

((Can I go this far in the aspect of teaching?Edit:Also, when's the next period class?))

Kuragari watched as the other girl who she knew was a vampire sat against a back wall not to far from where she was. 'Must've wanted to get away from the human's scent.' Walking over to her Kuragari pulled out one of her bottles of blood from her inner pocket. Reaching the girl she held it up to her. "This may help." Kuragari didn't smile or frown. Making sure to keep all emotion off her face she just stared directly into the other girls eyes.
