The boy's brother had become a knight in record time, though it wasn't out of things like "social status" or "ability to command". The Young man was a killer. A weapon and assassin the truest sense of the word. Even at the age that Byakuran was now, the boy would snap at the slightest show of aggression, switching from his normally skittish and almost childish personality, into a cold lifeless harbinger of battle. The first time he'd encountered the Otobe, Takahashi could clearly recall, was them setting that... thing, loose on a group of unsuspecting missing nin who'd failed to keep their end of a bargain. He'd learned but one thing.
Do not fail to keep a bargain with an Otobe. It was a lesson he'd not forgotten since...

Having learned that Byakuran was the psychotic, possibly bi-polar, death dealer's brother was going to be the one he was looking after, Takahashi had certain expectations. He'd, of course, assumed that the boy would be one of two things, as it was with most brothers. He would either be the complete opposite of the older boy, or the spitting image. As it was, it was a little bit of both. Byakuran was not completely all there, persay, he was absent minded and flighty and shied away from murder as much as the average sociopath, but he also wasn't the sort of person to go out and kill someone without them either attacking first, or being ordered to. All in all he was a rather passive force for all his conviction to turn himself into a weapon, and unlike Senkyoku, he was actually able to carry on a conversation without making all involved feel incredibly uncomfortable/afraid for their life.

Byakuran also had the added bonus of at least being REMOTELY together, even if he often gave the impression of having the attention span of a gold fish. He at the very least didn't carry around a giant bag of candy and talk to his ridiculous large Nodachi like it was his imaginary friend. And no, that was not in any way a metaphor or exaggeration. The closest The man had ever seen Byakuran get to showing such tendencies was when he'd taken a week out of his life to try and learn how to speak to bees. Since they communicated using vibrations, naturally and Oto might be able to replicate such things. This had resulted in him getting stung more then a few times, but in the end earning him the rather bizarre ability to convince normal bees that he was one of them. He could even tell them when he found a new flower to harvest pollen from. That was the extent of his abilities and of course he never really got around to getting them to even close to obey him, but it was rather peculiar non the less.

At least bee's were alive though. The boy had, short of when someone had convinced him that teddy bears were alive when he was seven, at least never taken to chatting up inanimate objects.
He'd been relieved by the boy's attitude in contrast to his brothers, as he suspected that the Knight of forte, while skilled, probably wouldn't really make a very good infiltrator...what with the random outbursts of murder and the tact and ability to lie while NOT murdering roughly that of a four year old. Yet even so, had been given more then enough trouble by the boy's little quirks over the years, his recent no shows to any and all summons just one example. Takahashi merely sighed shaking his head, blowing out a long trail of smoke. At leas the boy was finally serious about SOMETHING. It was even something that went in line with his clan's sympathies. If their was one thing they had instilled in him, it was the admiration of power...

The Clan wasn't really THAT bad as employers, really. At the very least they wouldn't screw you over so long as you pulled your weight. They worked entirely on a merit system, were the strong and skilled excelled, and they rewarded those who proved themselves. They were also, even if they all had their heads stuck up their own behinds and tended to call you things like "knave" and "Peasant" or even "Mortal", were not one's to break an agreement once struck. He supposed nobility was a duel sided coin even when taken to excess. The only thing you really needed to watch out for was failing one to many times, or even showing a noticeable amount of disrespect of weakness. That was likely to get you the boot... and as perhaps mentioned earlier, the Otobe didn't just fire people... when they let you go, you were either dead or so far away that even they didn't think it was worth the trouble tacking you down.

The kid had some of the Clan's traits for sure, he was certainly dedicated to the more worthy standing atop the weaker, the skilled ruling over the unskilled, and like the otobe they were willing to back this up by putting his all into becoming the strongest. He also shared their love of sweets, but he supposed that was just something to do with their bloodline... he guessed if HE could taste chocolate ten times as intensely as normally, he'd be pretty found of it too. Then of course there was his rather odd inclination to music...but again, the bloodline was probably to blame for that.
Where the differences started to come in was pretty much on the fundamental belief that the Otobe were gods. The kid was bit more grounded then most of his clan, more down to earth in some ways, and more head in the clouds, in others. Byakuran was more willing to hear the views of others, for one, even if it was only as reference point.

The biggest thing which seperated him from the rest though, was most probably his logical assessment of his own abilities. He was more then willing to admit he was mistaken, more than willing to admit he was wrong, so long as it could be explained to him in a reasonable manner, and he was more then willing to listen to said reasonable manner. The core of this, perhaps, was his more passive personality. In addition to not really being the sort to run off and kill without prompting, he was also as a result the sort of person who didn't really get all that excited about it, therefore was in no rush to get it over with. More then happy to chat up his opponents or, in contrast, someone else while he was fighting his opponent, giving them ample time to give said reasonable explanation.

Byakuran didn't pay much attention to Takahashi now as he concentrated on his work, his muscles already sore from the act but he pressed on, his face twisted into a determined intensity. This was just the beginning... this was what he had to do. His body wouldn't be able to withstand the minor vibration technique without this training, and the minor vibration technique would be his first true step as both a Ninja in training and as a member of his clan. This had to be the way...this had to be the right way. This was the path that he had selected for himself, and this was the path he would walk. Whether he continued to serve as an agent for his clan or whether he merely ended up working for himself and himself alone, most prominently the latter even if the former ended being true as well, he was still going to need to be strong...need to be powerful. He couldn't allow himself to fall victim to hesitation or weakness, that, at least, he knew his family had right. This was what he had to do. This was what he was going to do. and nothing was going to stop him...especially a little fatigue.

When Byakuran had been younger, when he'd first come to the village, things had been different. He'd not yet really had much talent by any stretch of the definition save when it came to his mind. He'd been a little frail, only recently getting control of his second self, and thrust into foreign situation where he'd had to lie, and con his way into presentable living conditions. He didn't really know what his clan would have done had he failed to acclimate himself to Kiri, but given their track record of failure and their dislike of his attitude, the obvious conclusion wasn't promising. If he wasn't killed, he would have most certainly been put through the more...advanced, training programs. The one's that went through those were lucky enough to have their real name when done.

But he'd managed to make it through well enough, he supposed aside from his constant progress reports it was no harder then any other orphan who'd been abandoned by their family...in a way that wasn't so far off, he supposed. His parents, after all, had already had one successful son, a knight, even at that time, and having someone to detract from that reputation around just wasn't a part of the plan. He'd therefore been shipped out and cast aside... thrown away as unneeded refuse. But... that didn't really bother him as much as one might think, or even as much as he had assumed it would. He had never really cared all that much about his parents anyway, so why would they not feel the same? The only one to ever actually care for him in his family was Senkyo, and being doted on by that shivering coward of a split personalitied monster was just...undignified. Therefore he found he didn't mind being sent away, it was merely assuring him that his family didn't care for him. He only had himself to count on, as he had assumed, and that wasn't going to change.

Byakuran didn't really make friends throughout his childhood in Kiri, but it was probably because he was either reading, pondering the day away, or politely removing himself from the company of others merely on the grounds that there was something else which demanded his attention...like why moths only came out at night or why rabbits had such oddly long ears. To say nothing of his consistent need to report in to Takahashi. As such not once in his entire life had the boy ever had what you would consider a "friend", but then he didn't really give this much thought...if any at all. It had simply never occurred to him that having a friend was probably a rather normal thing to do for a child, let alone a fresh teenager.

His personality didn't make it easy to get close to him either, without running into a wall of miscommunication. He was likable enough certainly, but getting him to like other people was an entirely other task. First they had to be somewhat entertaining, enough to keep his interest, and secondly they needed to be able to answer all his questions when asked. The second one was more the problem than the other. People tended to get rather overwhelmed by his rather inquisitive sense for information, and eventually just ignore his questions, which annoyed him when they weren't rhetorical or to himself. He thought people could at least admit to you that they don't know the answer. It was rather bad form to just brush someone off like that...

All in all he probably should have done this sort of training a long time ago, He wasn't very durable, for a shinobi, and as someone who would undoubtedly be seeing a great deal of combat, he couldn't allow himself to be too complacent in such a vital area. After this training his body would be in fair better shape, and he was positive that he would be able to Master the Minor Vibration. The first step to Otobe Jutsu. It would mean focusing his Kekke Genaki into a weapon for the first time, learning how to manipulate sound waves on a whole new level...but his body would need to endure the process of reaching said level, and he'd heard from more then one source that it wasn't simple, the scroll itself confirming this. Still... that only meant that he had to work all the harder...he could do this... he just needed to keep pushing forward...

Intensive training such as the kind he was doing was time consuming, taking a great deal more effort then merely going out and taking on foes in the field, but he also felt that there was no replacement for it. If you truly wanted an edge over your opponents, they had to be prepared, you had to be ready, and you had to be willing and able to go the distance...even then it was never easy. The slightest mistake and all your efforts would do no good. Preparation and dedication were the greatets weapons that a shinobi could wield... and Byakuran intended to wield them as best as he knew how. He intended and was ready to give it everything he had in order to reach the goal that he had set for himself... no matter what.

The key thing he had to keep reminding himself of was that their were plenty of shinobi out there who were far ahead of him...if he wanted to meet them in battle, surpass them, be considered a true genius, he would have to work for it. It was a task that could only be achieved through blood sweat and a powerful will. He had to give it his all not just now, but in everything that he put into training. Every task that he preformed in the name of getting stronger. He couldn't allow himself to only go half way there and give up...he wasn't going to meet his goal like that... he wasn't going to be a shinobi like that. And there was no way that he could consider himself as he did like that. I was all or nothing. Everything he had...or die trying.
