Hey I kinda like Pokemon, they have good games...but yeah the whole "dueling games solve everything" genre is really rediculous.

From the gaming standpoint, how do they function?
That's what I like about Magic: the Gathering, in respect to storyline. It's not little kids running around with cards and things, but actual big fantasy worlds, and all they entail. Sometimes, some story characters will get their own legendary card. It's like they actually make the story first, and then, use the cards to help tell the story, as well as have effects independent of the storyline.

Well, Magic is more of a card-based DnD from what I can get, and DnD is about RP style play.
The normal " dueling cards " games are more like just competition gaming with cards. No stories, no RPing, no going about it your own way. Preset rules, preset play styles.
Simply put, it'd be more like playing blackjack. The right combo of cards will win, and the ace has " bonus " affects of functioning as 2 values, etc.
