Here's another Through the Years Gallery, this one for Bobby Orr  Phenom from Parry Sound, Ontario, was born on March 20, 1948. Blessed with impressive 2-way skills, Orr was signed to an exclusive contract by Boston Bruins at tender age of 12 but league rules required that he wait until age 18 before he played in league.

 Orr made his NHL debut in 1966-67 with a rugged effort against Gordie Howe's Red Wings n' went on to win Calder Trophy as NHL's Rookie of Year. He finished 2nd among defensemen in scorin' with 13 goals n' 41 points, n' his + 30 ratin' spoke loudly of his formidable all-around play.

 A swift, almost effortless skater n' brilliant playmaker, Orr began revolutionizin' game by postin' offensive numbers unprecedented for a backliner. He won 2 scorin' titles n' had 6 consecutive 100-point seasons (1969-75), includin' 1st by a defenseman.

 Though his offensive exploits made headlines, Orr's defensive prowess was 2nd to none. Unafraid of physical game (or a fight) n' able to use his speed to foil opponents' rushes, he won a record 8 consecutive Norris Trophies, beginnin' with 1967-68 season.

 This iconic photo of Orr captures him in mid-flight moments after scorin' overtime goal against St. Louis in Game 4 of 1970 Stanley Cup Final that gave Bruins their 1st championship in 29 years. Orr was 1st defenseman to ever be awarded Conn Smythe Trophy as Playoff MVP. He scored 20 points in 14 games.

 Named SI's Sportsman of Year for 1970, Orr proceeded to score a career-high 139 points in 1970-71, winnin' 2nd of his 3 straight Hart Trophies as NHL's MVP.

 Orr remains only player ever to win Hart, Ross, Norris n' Smythe Trophies in same season (1969-70).

 NHL's 1st million dollar player when he signed a 5-year contract at $200,000 per season prior to 1971-72 campaign, Orr proved to be worth every penny, scorin' 37 goals n' 117 points.

 Conn Smythe was Orr's again as Bruins beat New York Rangers for 1971-72 Stanley Cup. Silverware-winnin' goal was scored by Orr in Game 6, makin' him 1st player to win Smythe twice.

 Incessant, painful knee injuries plagued Orr, who had countless operations n' ended up skatin' on little more than bone on bone. After settin' a goal-scorin' record for defensemen (46, in 1974-75), his playing time n' production declined dramatically.

 Orr's agent Alan Eagleson, center, engineered a controversial deal with Chicago Blackhawks before 1976-77 season, but backliner was limited by injury to only 26 games in next 3 seasons, 1 of which he missed entirely. Refusin' to cash his Chicago paychecks, proud Orr retired in 1979 at age of 31, with a total of 270 goals, 645 assists, n' 953 points.

 With mandatory 3-year waitin' period waived, Orr was enshrined in Hockey Hall of Fame in 1979, youngest player ever inducted. In 1995, he was reunited with former Bruins Milt Schmidt, John Bucyk n' Phil Esposito at a farewell ceremony for old Boston Garden.
