Poppy would however find that the only water to be found here was in the air. Mere moments after leaving the shore the girl would find herself surrounded by a dense fog, the trees of a rapidly thickening forest towering above her. It would seem Poppy had found herself in...
Foggy Forest
As you step off the boat, the sunshine and bright nature of the ocean ends as you enter the woods. Instead shadows loom overhead casting all sorts of forms and shapes throughout the way. Staying on the brown grassy trail would be wise. Odd as it may be, a thick fog begins to creep up rising from the ground to make sight almost impossible. You must trudge along hoping not to get lost. Silence marks the forest except for the sounds as the leaves and sticks crackle beneath your feet. Beware what could be lurking and what illusions this place may hold. The forest holds secrets and you could be its next victim.

This sort of area was very suited for grass types, but she could only hope to find a water type somewhere within, or a pond deep enough to fish in. For now, though, she focuses on the mission her teacher gave her. Take a picture of an evolution stone and add a Pokemon to her team. As this island was for newbies whose Pokemon were still low level and hadn't gotten stronger fighting during the Winter Event, she didn't expect it'd be very hard. Shinx takes care to not lose her in the fog, keeping pressed up against her leg as they walk.
Rather than a battle however, Poppy would find her first encounter in these woods would be something altogether more mysterious. The fog thickened more so than before, blotting out even the sky as a figure shambled forward. Draped in a burlap cloak the figure's face was obscured in shadow. Leaning heavily on a worn wooden cane, the figure would say in a reedy voice "Stop! Who would cross the Forest of Death must answer me these questions three, ere the other side she see" The figure would only pause a mere moment before continuing. Seemed this quiz show had a lighting round...
"QUESTION 1!" They bellowed, rapping their cane against the ground "What....is your name?"
"QUESTION 2!" The announced, smacking the butt of their cane against the ground "What....is your quest?"
"QUESTION 3!" They all but cackled this time, thrusting their cane into the ground "What....is the air speed velocity of an unladen Swellow?"

Shinx's growling alerts her to something approaching before she can see the figure through the fog, unable to make out any details. They're short, though, and their voice is strange. The figure fires off questions, the first two easy to answer. "My name is Poppy Polaris, I'm here to catch a new Pokemon and take a picture of an evolution stone." The second, however, takes some thinking. Why does she need to answer these questions? It doesn't hurt, and the stat and fact calculations isn't too hard. She's always had a mind for math.
"A Swellow's wingspan is about 230% the length of its body, and it is among the fastest of the bird Pokemon and very acrobatic in the air. Its powerful wings are strong enough to carry it across great distances. Swellow has a Sky 10 speed stat, so it can move 10 5-foot spaces in 6 seconds, which means it can move 50ft p6s, what works out to be just under 1 mph. However, Pidgeot has been known to be capable of flying at Mach 2 speed, so 1 mph is only 0.088% of a Swellow's true speed. That means that 1022 mph is the true air speed velocity of an unladen Swellow."
Rather than understand the reference and try to stump the figure by questioning which type of Swellow, she used the facts known to her and the species averages to determine the answer.
((Rip, this took me forever to find, and I started off finding the answer for swallows and then changing it to fit how much bigger a Swellow is before finding someone else who did it for Swellow xox))

For a moment the figure would stand there, their body slowly beginning to shake. After a moment however they would trip over backwards, striking the ground and rolling about as they roared with laughter. "NOT EVEN CLOSE!" They cried. Was it a trick question? Not necessarily. There was a mathematical answer, but that wasn't it. Shaking from side to side, the figure would roll away into the missed just as something else flew out of it...
Without a word a massive Swellow, many times larger and more powerful than it should have been, would swoop in and latch onto Poppy. Soon the girl would be carried off into the air....but where would she land?

The figure seems to find her answer hilarious, and she's not entirely sure why. What part did she get wrong? Or maybe the figure is the one who doesn't know, and no matter what she answered she wouldn't get it right. When the massive Swellow flew out of the fog, she figured that was her answer. She had calculated for a regular Swellow, but the figure must have been basing the answer on that thing. It swoops towards her, and she squats down to wrap her arms around Shinx before she is forcibly grabbed and carried off.
Whether the figure knew the answer, or Poppy was once again making assumptions, the girl would never know. All she would know is that as the Swellow dropped her, she'd find herself wet and reeking of salt mixed with decay. The bird had surprisingly dropped her in exactly the sort of place she'd wanted to go...
Brackish Bog
This is a place made of salt and death. Where fresh water from further inland brings all manner of dead plants to be washed out to sea, but over the years the route has become congested, the slowing of the current allowing new flora to grow over the old and increase the problem. This is a place where the living survive off the dead, so watch your step lest you become something's next meal; and don't drink the water.

Landing with a thump on damp grass, Poppy releases Shinx from her hold and looks up after the disappearing Swellow. It had taken her to a different part of the island, what she figures is the bog that Shiloh had told her about. The perfect spot for water Pokemon. Climbing to her feet, she brushes off her backside and crinkles her nose at the smell, but steps forward anyways. "Come on Shinx, let's continue."
Proceeding forward, the girl would spot a small blue Bug-type skating skillfully across the water....but as the Surskit spotted her, and more importantly the girl's Shinx, it would swiftly flee the scene. It would seem for now she'd have to be content with a Water-type sighting.

That was alright by her, she was certain that she'd have her chances to catch a water type sometime during the mission on the island. Admiring the sight of the Surskit skating while she walks, Poppy pays no mind to the focused Shinx who hops about, eyes on the fleeing Surskit. That would have been fun prey for him to play around with, but he'll get his chance.
Shiloh had left by abra and was being returned by Abra as he lands at the same spot as before. The ground that had held his greatest defeat and the death of his pokemon seemed to almost mock him.
But, he smiled.
He had left weak, but he had returned strong. The entire debacle with Academy had been to his favor, and thus, he would start forward knowing that he could take anything that came his way. At least, that was how he saw things at that moment.
">TIIIYAAAA!<" The buzzing cry rang out across the bog followed by a heavy THWUMP and the sound of something splattering. ">WUUUTYAA!<" The next cry followed by an audible crunch and the sound of something falling into the water. The cries would be accompanied by the ever increasing sound of buzzing wings, and it wouldn't take Poppy long to locate the source. Fists up, wings buzzing furiously, a Ledyba was triking a large...heavy bruised...berry as it it were a punching bag. Seemed she'd come across someone's workout routine; though with all the noise it was producing, the insect clearly hadn't noticed her approach. If she wanted to leave quietly this was her chance...ir not....well...she was definitely in for a tussle.

Silentveil
Shiloh would find though, that his return to this place would not be a happy one, The moment his feet crunched against the grass, the fog would thicken, enveloping him like a blanket. A familiar snort would reach his ears as a silhouette appeared in the midst, baring a crown of glowing antlers. ">So you return....<" The Stantler spoke coldly, his eyes filled with judgement ">I had hoped you wise enough to leave after our last...encounter.<" Snorting dismissively, the Forest Guardian would shake his head ">So be it. This time I shall show you no mercy.<" It seemed despite death and departure, Shiloh was destined to repeat this scene once more!

"Is this how you gret people where you co-- oh!" She'd gone from being in the Mirage Arena having a very odd interaction with a young man to... back on the island. Out of the corner of her eye, she glimpsed the Abra disappearing into thin air. She sighed, shoulders drooping; admittedly, Alice had hoped she could simply leave the Mirage Arena and return to her Professor's classroom. Oh well. More time exploring this strange place!
She looked at her two Pokemon-- Maddie had relaxed with her gnashing teeth now that her prey was gone, and Vorpal had slipped to her arm now that he didn't need to grab the Blitzle. Alice couldn't help a smile. "You both did very well... Basil too." Positive reinforcement was a healthy part of any relationship, as Lankford had told her. Giving the both of them a pat, she turned her gaze back to the Seed of Experience. Hmm, what to do... she started unweaving a tiny part of the baskets on her back, pulling out a single strand. She wrapped it around the seed, careful not to make it too tight. And for the crowning moment (Alice had to fight back a giggle)... she placed the makeshift tiara on her Blitzle's head. "Is this okay, Maddie?"
>I'M THE PRETTIEST PRANCING PRINCESS!< Maddie was practically vibrating with joy. She rolled her eyes upward, trying to get a glimpse of what was going on. >I've always wanted a hat!< The Blitzle booped her snoot snout against Alice's giggling.
"Hehe.. .I'll take that as a yes." Alice managed to contain her giggles and recalled Maddie. She glanced down at her other Pokemon. "Don't be sad," she remarked to the Vorpal, who looked surprisingly downcast for a slab of metal. "She just needs the experience more than you." When Vorpal gave her arm a squeeze, she assume all was forgiven. Time to go.
