The Acclamator 2 was just an expansion of the Mk1 like a VSD1 and a VSD 2.

Either way, now we have a useful NPC to provide needed information to advance storylines. An thus was the Devaronian Infochant Plaught 'Vaice born.

Also, I just looked up snowspeeders on wookie-pedia. Alas, no information on whether the gunner controls the cannons as well as harpoon ... @_@

No, the Pilot controls the main guns. The Gunner mans the harpoon or blaster cannon thats rear mounted in addition to handling some of the secondary systems so the pilot can focus on flying.

If you watch the film you can clearly see that its the pilot who mans the main guns.
So thats how you know.
Gunners probably also monitor the Comlink, the engines, and the sensors in addition to the rear gun.
