Zach nodded slowly to prevent his headache from worsening. This guy seemed to be all right, even if he appeared partly turned into some kind of dog. His mind skipped back to the night before. He remembered somebody. A guy? A girl? He couldn't keep focused on it.

"Yeah..." Not much one could add to those statements. He followed the man's gaze, but had to turn away. The water appeared blinding as it reflected sunlight.

He looked up at the guy. He'd remembered a few things he'd been doing prior to getting completely and totally drunk. "Promised myself I wouldn't drink alcohol a long time ago. That promise didn't last long here." He didn't want to admit how much rum he'd had. Soon, he realized he didn't have a name to address this other guy with. "Didn't introduce myself, sorry... I'm Zachary. You?"

Pyroth sat himself down a short ways away from Zach and listened to what he had to say, it was when he mentioned alcohol that Pyroth had to smile slightly, he had been worried that the man was very ill, but it seemed a hangover was the source of his troubles. "Ah we all have a sup now and again, you can't help not to when you are here, hell I was out of it only a few days ago, ended up drinking away my hangover with coffee in my duplex in the dark."

He shrugged and offered a greeting hand "Nice to meet you Zach, I'm Pyroth." That made three unchanged islanders he had met so far, Moreau must have just brought in a new set of subjects, he didn't want to dwell on their fates any more than his own.

He gave a warm grin "Y'know, you might want to give the expresso up at the cafeteria a shot, they make a mean one, I usually drink a few cups of that, the caffeine gets me so revved up that the hangover becomes secondary to it. That or asprin but I'm all out of them, just placed an order for more." it was quite evident in the way he spoke that he'd been here quite some time.

Zach shook the clawed hand with his own one hand, feeling the bristly fur. He avoided commenting on it. He felt some pity toward Pyroth, who'd perhaps never again return to civilization. He let go and put the hand against his forehead, trying to ease the headache but failing.

"Coffee?" he asked curiously. He'd never heard of that as a solution to a hangover. Hell, he hadn't had a hangover in a good four years.

"Oh, that's all right - I bring my own medication..." He wouldn't trust the doctors here with medicines any more than he'd trust Dr. Kevorkian. Pyroth definitely seemed to know a lot about this place. Zach had been unaware that people could just order what they needed from the staff. He'd recalled asking for a map, but that had been merely an idiotic diversion, not a necessity. All he really wanted at the moment was a one-way ticket off the island... something the doctors would never allow.

After a bit of focus despite the pounding of his head, he remembered the previous night, and just what the alcohol had caused him to do. His hand dropped farther down to cover his eyes. "Oh no... Avery..."

Pyroth shrugged "I know it's wacky but it works for me..most of the time anyway." Of course there had been times when it had just goaded his headache to new and interesting levels of conciousness, one time even his earlobes ached. He nodded "Wish I'd had the foresight to bring my own gear, then I wouldn't have to rely on the lab for what I need." Of course, having been shipwrecked near the island, he hadn't really had much opportunity to plan ahead.

"As it is I just rely on the fact that there isn't much else they can do to me."

He tilted his head ever so slightly as the man groaned. Ah, the old "what the hell did I do?" blues, he'd been victim of them not long ago too, with amusing results. He doubted the humour of Zach's situation based on his reaction.

"Erk, say something you didn't mean to?" he wasn't intending to pry, just trying to be helpful, if Zach didn't want to say, he had no itention of trying to force it out of him.

Aubrey walked along the sands of the beach. Her pant cuffs were rolled up and she had removed her shoes so she could walk barefoot in the sand. She walked against the wind, causing her hair and labcoat to billow out behind her, and as she walked she was ingrossly reading from a thick cliboard. She was heading towards the bar to take an inventory - a job she had mostly taken as an excuse to take a breather and walk along the beach - it was a such a perfect day. So even though she was technically 'on duty' she was making no real motivated effort to get the bar and back quickly.

She didn't even notice the islanders until she was practically up on them. She jerks her head out of the file she was reading. "Oh, uh, hello?" She tried not to look nervous.

Pushing his latest thoughts aside, he gave a crooked grin to Pyroth's assumption, eyes still covered. "Too valuable for them to let us die, I suppose? I've heard things about all you changed people being kept outside for two months - on purpose." He did wonder how Jamal was doing in that cage.

"A little of that," he muttered sheepishly. "I... confused a guy with my ex girlfriend. Got a little violent." He silently cursed alcohol again - never helped him, it seemed. Avery had vanished at some point while he'd been passed out, meaning there couldn't have been too much more Zach didn't remember. He honestly hoped the guy was all right.

Zach pulled his hand away and looked up to the source of the new voice. His head was still hurting, but he soon identified her as a brunette, carrying a hefty clipboard. As soon as his eyes fell on the labcoat, he felt a cold dread. A doctor, here? Well, speak of the devil.

"'Lo," he greeted shortly. He continued to watch her apprehensively, shifting positions to better hide his left side from her gaze. None of the things he'd come up with to add to his greeting seemed to be at all appropriate, so he kept silent.

Oh yeah, there had been that, Pyroth found out then just how potent the coyote instincts had been getting. But a part of him has secretly enjoyed the detachment from suffocating society, for a little while he could have pretended he was a kid again or simply on a mission. "Yeah, they did, but I don't know if it was on purpose." He raised a brow, he hadn't yet heard /that/ bit of gossip. It sounded perfectly feasible though, never take anything for granted on this island. "Interesting stuff."

In response to Zach's admission Pyroth nodded morosely "Alcohol is a curse and a blessing. I'm sure if you caught up with the guy and explained he wouldn't be too annoyed with you. Hell I've known guys to haul off and smack each other about on the drink only to apologise the next day and forget about it."

He looked up as his nose, as always working of it's own accord, picked up another precence. He looked up and his eyes widened as he recognised the figure, someone he hadn't seen for ages and ages.

"Hello Aubrey." he said with the faintest of waves, he didn't hold anything against any of the labtechs bar Moreau and from what he had heard from Colche, Aubrey had been nothing but good to her.
"I haven't seen you out and about for ages." His voice didn't really hold any malice in it. "Did you get the message from that intercom tech guy I was talking to?"

Aubrey nodded a greeting, still trying to judge their reactions to her. "Mr. Bloodstone, Mr. Ignatius."

She looked surprised, though not unhappy, about Pyroth's more friendly demeanor. Recently the islanders have seemed very on edge. "Oh, uh," Aubrey flipped a few pages of her clipboard, "I think I have all new aqquissitions requests here. I'll be filling orders later this afternoon."

Zach's mind raced. Now wasn't the most spectacular time to share with Pyroth what he'd been told by Jamal... Aubrey had been his source, after all, and here she was. "I'll... tell you later," he murmured, though there wasn't much of a point in that.

"Heh. Well... this guy was rather effeminate... I'll have to try though." He had no idea where Avery lived. He did know where Rex lived... and Avery knew Rex. Perhaps he could talk to the lion-man.

Violence and escape didn't solve anything on the island, and Pyroth didn't appear at all bothered by the woman. Zach's tension in Aubrey's presence loosened a little, though what Jamal had said he still remembered between the horrible achings of his brain.

He had a thought... a question. He figured she knew, probably as well as she knew what Pyroth was becoming. He wanted to know what he'd become, only so that he would never have to guess. But the question couldn't get out of him that easily.

"So what brings you all the way out here?" he asked, with a slightly sarcastic tone to his voice.

PostPosted: Sat Mar 18, 2006 3:19 pm

Pyroth nodded, despite being watched by cameras there were still some things you didn't say lightly.

He looked puzzled for a second by the mention of an effeminate man, he was yet to meet anyone even close to that desciption. It wasn't like you could class Billy, Chubbs or anyone under that heading. Maybe Vasile? Or maybe someone he hadn't met yet. "I'm sure he'll understand." he said with a reassuring nod.

Once again his attention returned to Aubrey. Good, then there was a chance he'd get his pot after all, that thought only lightened his mood futher and he was surprised to see that he was starting to enjoy his stay here. A furry coat and super sharp nose was a small price to pay for an extended tropical holiday without a single day's work to be done.

"Thanks, hope it's not too demanding."

He then listened to see why Aubrey was out here anyway, his tail swishing lazily in the sand behind him.

Aubrey adjusted the scarf around her neck that she used to hide her injury given to her by Jamal and shifted her weight. "I'm on my way to the bar to take invetory. Its pretty much a housekeeping day, if you haven't noticed, heh." She looked between them, almost tempted to say 'good for you guys, eh? No injections!' Too bad they probably wouldn't find it as amusing as she did.

She turned her attention to Pyroth. "Uhm, its probably fine. We do our best to be accomodating."
PostPosted: Sat Mar 18, 2006 3:43 pm

He gave a glance to the scarf. Aubrey looked rather eager to keep her neck hidden. Seemed Jamal really had made an attempt on her life.

Pyroth's appearance was a good, constant reminder for Zach of what he was dreading. He heard the tail brushing up sand and could see the two doglike ears flicking subtley. However muted, he still couldn't shake his fears of the same happening to him.

Housekeeping, hah. It did stand to reason the lab would have a hard time hiring anyone to clean up their experiments' messes. He noticed a peculiar expression cross her face as she looked at them, but it vanished.

He spoke to her again. "Seems a waste of your time though, doesn't it? After all... you'd be doing much more important things in a lab." Whatever the hell floated these twisted biologists' boats. Labs were nice, but Zach preferred titration over dissection any day. "Or were you hired to clean?"

Now and then, a little rebellious thinking never hurt.

"Housekeeping, eh? I'd imagine Moreau would be quick to thow on an apron and marigolds and help out." The mental image of Moreau in an apron dusting the labs almost made him laugh out loud and he grinned, nevertheless he did derive from her words that which was left unsaid. The prospect of no further injections that day definately made his night that bit more enjoyable. "Well whatever you inventory at the bar, make it sans one half bottle of Jack Daniel's, I'm taking one up to my duplex later, get sloshed while listening to the crickets, just the way I would on a /real/ holiday." His words weren't said nastily, he was just beginning to treat things like one wacked out tropical holiday. It was working.

He glanced over to Zach and smirked faintly ,considering adding that he would rather have a sterile injection than one messed up by bad hygine. However, he thought the better of it, figuring that it took a head mellowed by months here to get the humour in that statement rather than someone still reeling from the shock.

Still, he too had noticed Aubrey moving her scarf, and wondered what she was trying to hide.

A frown pulled at Aubrey's mouth at Zach's (in her mind at least) unfounded bit of attitude. "Not housekeeping as in cleaning, Mr. Bloodstone, housekeeping as in keeping track and making sure everything is running smoothy and accounted for. Thats part of my job here, you see, as second in command of this entire complex," her words were heavy with a subtle threat as she managed to pull rank on him. "Of course if you'd rather me just go back in the labs of think of more interesting ways to disfigure you, I'm sure I could be persauded. After all, god knows if I wasn't around you islanders wouldn't have half the comforts I go to extra efforts to make sure are provided for you." She held up her clipboard for evidence.

Ugh, there she was, losing her temper again. But seriously, after two months of living wild in the jungle you'd think they'd be alittle more graceful for the creature comforts she tied to make sure they had. She pinched the bridge of her nose and looked to Pyroth. "Take whatever you like. We'll stock anything we can possibly get our hands on it you want. Spared no expense." She let a faint hint of a smirk on her lips.

Zach hesitated at her threat, and relented, an obvious look of fear on his face. He'd been feeling a little overconfident in seeing how docile Aubrey was. A big mistake. Her pride in being second in command was evident, though. He couldn't disagree that she'd earned it, if only from that kind of talk.

Well, nothing like a violent jump-start to the imagination. Her words implied something bad already. He grimaced and looked away from the clipboard. "Y-you can skip the lab..."

He looked over at Pyroth. Well, the furry guy was certainly was enjoying himself. Zach didn't really have it in him to laugh at the comment, now that the conversation had become a little dangerous.
