It'll be good when we make it home. Not too much longer now, Fianth. The woman leaned down to pat her queen's neck. Another cry of warning went out. It might be nearing the end, but it is still dangerous.

Despite the gold's worry, things really were beginning to slow down. Though rider and dragon watched the skies, the patches were coming down in smaller number. The waters of the ocean were beneath them, and it would not be long before D'mon gave the signal to return back to the Weyr.

A patch of Thread fell, and both Fianth and Olliah were prepared. The end was near. Though the queen was tired, though she was sore, and aching, Olliah felt relatively well. They had started out shakily enough, but had found their stride. In fact, things had been going relatively well for them both. . .

So when Fianth brought Olliah within range, the woman had every faith they would burn the patch to ash. Unfortunately, two things happened simultaneously -- the flamethrower jammed, and no gout of flame shot from the nozzle. Worse, the wind kicked up, sending the patch right into rider and dragon. It tangled onto Olliah's hand, arm, shoulder, head, chest, and legs. It wrapped around Fianth's neck, and shoulder, wriggling, writhing, eating its way.

Both rider and dragon screamed, before disappearing.

Eveleth cried out when they did not return....

But they did appear above the Weyr Bowl. Fianth bugled alarm, as well as pain, half-falling, half-dropping down near the lake. Her rider, in her panic and pain, tore at the straps, half falling, half throwing herself in the waters, riding leathers be damned.

[So, Olliah's out. LOL She almost made it through the entire Threadfall though!]

"We'll still take care of each other." Nadry nodded agreement, taking a deeper, steadying breath. She looked a wreck, she was sure, although with Ichta at least, she knew she didn't need to worry, and clearly hadn't.

Menankith considered the possibility of gliding over to Elzebuth's ledge with the faintest of hums. Cynosuth's wanted to look at me after, he said with a touch of regret. Not that he did not want to see Cynosuth and Hers (although he had made his sister sad earlier and still felt terrible for it), but the idea of just cuddling up with Aurinkoth and Elzebuth and sleeping the rest of the day away was deeply appealing. Maybe once everyone has been seen to?

And it would give His time to 'clean up,' if she wanted, and then maybe she would feel a little better. Sometimes it did help!

2-4. A powerful gust of wind blows through and hits one of the wings, blowing even the largest of bronzes and golds out of formation and into neighboring Threadfall!

Roll a D5 to see which wing took the loss and what happens!
1. Queen's Wing
2. Low Altitude Wing
3. Mid Altitude Wing
4. High Altitude Wing
5. Weyrling Wing

Quote 3 Individuals in the Wing! -7 HP These individuals are also now suffering from the Painful Effect. This will negate your next 2 rolls XP, double damage if the roll includes set damage (or has you roll for damage)!

"You and G'ran will have to take up double my share, though." Yet with how exhausted her dear blue was, she didn't see too much problem with that. Maybe she'd start volunteering for second wave so they'd come back together. Aurinkoth seemed to like the idea well enough, based on the warm thoughts he offered her. He was a fairly agreeable boy, though.

After everybody has been seen to. Let myIchta and yourNadry get out of their riding gear. though his dearest most wonderful chosen didn't seem too worried about getting up to go change. Cynosuth is worried about you. She is afraid she has hurt you somehow. Perhaps his understanding of why the green had reached out to him was flawed, but he'd at least be honest.

"I think we can manage it, between us." She hoped. For now, she did succeed in summoning a wisp of a smile. "Not that I was so great at that, this time." This was supposed to have been there first full fall, but they'd missed the last of it because of their stupid straps. It was humiliating, and frustrating beyond words, and entirely on her. She'd made them, and had to have gone wrong somewhere, somehow. That hurt.

Menankith made a low, sad sound when Aurinkoth revealed that Cynosuth was worried. I was only sad, and I- I did not want to make her sad, or distract her. She could get hurt, if she worries about me instead of what is important.

We failed today, he creeled, feeling the tender wounds anew now that he knew he had caused his sister pain. And because we are not there, they all must fight harder and face more danger because we are not where we are supposed to be.

Back to the Weyr!
D'mon had thought things were getting better, but in reality, the worst had been yet to come. Thistreth looked ashen grey, and he could feel the bronze's grief and rage. Cheza had Impressed from the bronze's last clutch, and had been one of his young, green daughters. The bronze had felt her loss immensely, and had grown angry, perhaps even careless, in his rage. Thistreth now sported many more thread marks, having flown too close in his desire to take down the deadly Threads that had stolen his daughter.

Perhaps he was a traditional bronzes in some respects, but he remembered his clutches. He served the Weyr, not just out of duty, but because it was his home. His family sunned on the Weyrs ledges, bathed in its waters, and played in its Bowl. His family grew up, lived, loved, and died for the Weyr -- and he would not let their deaths be in vain.

When the Wings flew far enough over the sea, when Threadfall finished its onslaught, D'mon raised his hand, but hesitated just a moment. Thistreth craned his battle-scored neck, glancing back behind him at the various Wings, their colors, their placements. They had fought bravely, had fought well. . . . but would be down one face for good. The battle is over, friends. We couldn't have asked for better, and yet, you know we will ask you to fight again. For now, rest, relax, tend to your wounds, and take care of one another. Grieve. Mourn. There will be one more empty chair in our dining hall this day, but her sacrifice will not be forgotten! High Reaches Territory is safe, thanks to her efforts, thanks to your efforts -- each and every one of you is a hero. Don't ever forget that!

D'mon gave the signal, and the Wings behind him disappeared, back to the Weyr.

Still, Thistreth hesitated, just a moment. The bronze wheeled back around, giving a quiet keen of mourning, for the little green he lost. There will be no more fighting straps for you. No more drills, no more lessons, no more ashburns, bitten tongues, and Threadscore. I will miss your trills, I will miss your bright cheer. Join your clutchsibs and wingmates, now, and know that your Sire and Weyrleader is proud. Rest well, my little Zurath. With one last keen, echoing over the waters, the bronze dragon jumped Between, to face a Weyr in mourning.

Thank you guys for playing this little Beta test! We hope you had fun! If you missed out or had characters get KO'd early, don't worry, we'll be running more.

A few things:

1. Save your dragonrider XP! That's all cumulative. It will be up to you to save it and keep track of it. If you lose it, you either have to start from the beginning or dig it up yourself.

2. Please be honest with your XP scores. We will make sure to run ample Threadfall Games, with different prompts. We may even run some training or games to earn your derg some!

3. Hurricane Wing -- if you played your wingrider in Threadfall, you get +5 XP to distribute anywhere you want -- courtesy of Y'mar (and Cherie's Staff Dice Roll).

4. Feel free to have character continue to RP in this thread, or private Threads, if you want to do some more development. You may also backdate RPs around this Threadfall if you want more development, too. :3

5. We hope you had fun, cause we sure did! thanks for being troopers and playing all 4 Rounds. We learned a lot, and will be adjusting some things for Western's Threadfall game!

Thanks again for RPing and participating in Echoes of Pern -- we wouldn't be here without you guys! heart

She finds you very important. Putting her at ease would keep her from holding worry for you in the back of her mind. the blue offered sunshine - as bright and warm as he ever had it, though he stopped speaking as dragons began to fill the sky, returning back from the fight. His eyes scanned the skies carefully. Every face he expected to see - wanted to see - was in rank, just as hoped.

"You set the baseline." Dragon and rider spoke in unison - Ichta to Nadry, and Aurinkoth to his brother as he inched closer, spreading out a stitched up wing to pull it as far over the brown as he could. He was so very small compared to Menankith. Not as much so as next to Elzebuth, but...small. You did great. You fought so long! Longer than me, or Macuith, or Cynosuth, or Monath! You helped keep firestone where it needed to be, and thread from where it wasn't meant to be! You did so much and only you could do as much as you did! That's amazing! There were no losers with Aurinkoth, after all.

Do you think so? Menankith mulled over this as dragon began to return, and like Aurinkoth, looked for certain among them. At other times, he might have puffed up upon learning he was viewed as important by someone, but today he did not feel terribly important. He felt much lesser than his usual self, and sad, and all in all it was...rather confusing, a strange muddle of things he was not used to feeling. All he knew for sure was that he didn't like it.

The brown sighed again and leaned gently into his smaller brother. Sometimes he missed the days when they had all been small and could easily pile up on one another or curl up with Theirs. We were not very good with the firestone, he admitted with a sigh. One of their only successes had, thank Faranth, been in throwing to V'mel and Aviroth. The rest... I wish I could have done more. I wish I had been able to finish. Elzebuth did. Aresoth did.

And that had a particular sting to it.

Nadry glanced up at the returning wings, and then back to Ichta, a bit...startled? She had yet to get used to anyone (other than Menankith, and even that was still novel) believing in her instead of telling her what she couldn't or shouldn't do. "...Thank you. For everything."

Aurinkoth clacked his jaws - not in an irritated way, but almost as if he was huffing at the fact that Menankith was doubting his words. They did, but why is it a contest? he asked. They did not fly the same as you, and there are clearly more important things than beating out the others. He looked back towards the two girls, trilling affectionately at them both. Oh yes, they were both very important as far as Aurinkoth was concerned.

There will be plenty more to do!

Ichta didn't seem to think she'd said anything in particular, but offered her dear friend a smile. "You're very welcome. I'll always be here when you need me."

I am not the one who made it a contest! Me and Mine are assumed to not be as capable - as Aresoth because he is bronze, as Theirs because they are male, he explained, raising his head as his eyes flashed orange, color returning at last. Menankith held nothing against G'ran for this, as he did not take advantage of it (if he was even aware of it at all!), while Aresoth seemed to fully embrace his 'rights.' Because we did not finish, some will take it to mean that they are right. That we are less, when we are not. We must make them see that they are wrong!

"Likewise." Nadry smiled back, a little wider this time, but was soon distracted by the sudden fervor from her dragon, and sighed. "It's alright, Menankith. You don't have to rant at Aurinkoth."

The brown sighed, wilting a little. Elzebuth will be back at his weyr soon, you should not make him wait too long. I will be fine.

demon_pachabel
PostPosted: Wed May 09, 2018 5:54 pm

Aurinkoth leaned in to touch his nose to his brother's, eyes still calm and blue as orange flashed thru those of the brown's, offering him soothing reassurances. You and yourNadry need not jump through the hoops of those who cannot approve of your innate worth. But if you wish to, then I will support you! What do I need to do? he cheeped cheerily, and Ichta could feel his eagerness through their bond, smiling.

"Aurinkoth doesn't mind. Menankith is riled up on your behalf, so he's not offended." As if it was possible to offend her dearest.

Still, Menankith's attempt to send them away, scooted the blue closer, butting his head up against the brown's with endless affection. Elzebuth and his can wait, I am here now!

But they must see it! They cannot be allowed to continue to ignore our worth, or the worth of others - or worse still, suppress it! Menankith accepted his brother's affection and support with a faint, distracted thrum, but now that he'd gotten started, well. It was hard to tone him down. But we cannot simply argue, or start trouble. They will only transfer us, and nothing will ever change. We must show them that we are as good, or better. If we are ever to bring it down, we must first claw our way up.

"At least he's...feeling more himself, I suppose." The brown was rarely more energetic than when he was on a tear, so it was an improvement over tired and forlorn, more or less.

demon_pachabel
...Menankith just takes over the end of Thread with ranting. /facepalm
