He didn't care if Ace left or stayed, their plan didn't require his help and he wasn't a necessary part of it. He wasn't going to tell Ace anything, he had no obligation to help the kid further and it also seemed he preferred to learn things on his own so why not let him continue on the path to self destruction?

Well you can't possibly find the book, Soren will kill you all and obtain the book, and then everything will be lost for good, and finally if your little plan fails which it is possible as he does have help then you need some other backup plan."
