[Dorothy]

Dorothy jerked upright as she heard the voice of the girl calling out to her.

She's looking for me? Why? I didn't even say anything worth warranting any attention..

Peeking her head out from behind a thick trunk, she saw the figure of the girl.

She.. wants to help? I.. I..
No! I've got to stop hiding. I can't expect to do anything if I'm always like this.

Mustering up her courage, she walked out from behind the tree and cautiously approached the girl. She stopped within a few meters distance away from her, but still wasn't able to muster up enough courage to say anything. She was trying to look normal, but she couldn't hide a slight tremble. Her eyes meeting the girl's from behind her long fringe, she gave a slight nod, trying to show that she did want help.

"It's not enough to know your limits..

Huffing audibly Odin looked around the greenery. She contemplated on going back to ask for some help but then the girl could have already gone off further into the forest.

Suddenly there was slight shuffling behind her, small enough to be almost unheard. Out of instinct her hand was itching to reach for her weapon but she restrained herself lest it turn out to be the stranger. Scaring her off again was not what she wanted to achieve.

She turned around slowly and there was the girl, looking slightly flustered but more or less fine. She nodded back at her and Odin smiled slightly in relief.

"There you are, why'd you run away like that?" she said with a light laugh.
..but to know what you must do to go beyond them."

She let out a surprised meow as her behind hit the floor. Looking up, she saw a very handsome man in front of her, his brown hair framing his face. She inhaled slightly, out of instinct. He smelled of blood, metal,... odd, he smelled like a Drow, and... were those ITD particles hitting her nose? This man was hiding almost as much as she was.

Oh, he'd said something. "Don't mind if I do!"
She straightened up, with the help of his hand.

"I don't believe I've met you before. The name's Mettanere Burobel, but call me Meta or Metaburo-sama, whichever you like better~. I was just heading to the Infirmary. D'you know anything about the stuff there?"

"...Where the cold crouches over you like a snow leopard waiting to pounce."

She took his hand and gave him her name.
"Delighted to make your acquaintance, Miss Burobell," he said with the most suave smile he could muster. He held Cespanar in his free hand, under his arm as he lifted the surprisingly light girl from the ground. Skin did not meet his palm, but a light pad, and soft fur, pleasing to the touch.
Cespanar yipped in (seemingly) delight, meeting a new person, drawing attention. Sensing questions popping into her head, he preemptively explained. "This little mutt here is Cespanar," he said, ruffing up the fur on top of his head, being careful to not poke his hand on the horns.
"He is a...." then he came to a blank. What kind of dog has horns?
Oh... Crap.
"He is my familiar," he lied. "He has been with me for a while, but I hadn't yet brought him out. "
Then her question hit him. Infirmary? What could she possibly want down there? and how did news travel so damn fast in this place? Either way, he had to explain.
"I was actually just heading down there myself," he said. Then he remembered the heavy rain, patting down on them. "Let's get you inside before we talk anymore. You'll be soaked in seconds,"
Or do they control me?

[Dorothy]

Flinching a bit as the girl laughed, she tried to muster up a response, but to no avail.
Embarrassed by her lack of action, she hid her face behind her doll.

"mmmmm... Ummmm... His... name is... Fern." She stuttered quietly, her voice barely audible.

"It's not enough to know your limits..

She was startled at the girl's reaction. Blinking at the doll that was in front of her Odin figured she would just go along with it.

If she's comfortable talking to me this way..

"Uhhhm.. Hello, Fern. My name's.." She paused for a split second, as if hesitant.
"Odin."

She smiled and held out her hand to shake the doll's.

"And your friend, does she have a name, Fern?" she said slowly.
..but to know what you must do to go beyond them."

"... My name...? It's... Dorothy..." She poked her head out from behind the doll for a moment, then hid behind it again.

"Fern says that she's looking for her brother who went missing many years ago, and the only lead we have points to here..." She mumbled, talking through her doll.

She allowed herself to be guided back to the room, thoughts a blur in her mind. He had already slept? But that wasn't for very long... was it? It was ridiculous how disoriented she'd come to be, so much so that the thought of arguing about who should sleep where simply... vanished. Perhaps it was really time for her to retire.

What little alertness she had still caught his whisper, however, and surprisingly enough it didn't require much thinking for her to conjure a coherent response. "You are... a very strange man."

Taking the handle loosely into her hand, Coline opened the door and stepped inside, halting in her tracks midway. It wasn't a voluntary reaction; instinct compelled her to shift back around and, finally, face him. "...Is there anything else you need?" she inquired wearily, brows raised to their fullest height in a last-ditch effort to keep her eyes open.

Jessie burst out laughing. He couldn't hope to disagree with her there, could he? Still, he couldn't help but realise the paradox of the statement. Hadn't she just practically asked him to force himself upon her? It was odd. The sheer oddness of the situation managed to wipe everything away, just as the worry had done a few moments earlier. Goodness, but he was unstable when she was around. Everything negative was forgotten so very easily. It was truly wonderful.

She turned to face him as the hilarity subsided, to be replaced instead by the usual smile. This time, it was accompanied by a quirk of the eyebrow as she apparently insisted on hospitality even when - from this close, with her face finally full in his, it was exceptionally obvious - she was falling asleep on her feet. Odd indeed. Still, hadn't she done the same thing just then, outside? He hadn't thought much of it, attention held instead by her exhaustion, but...

He took her into his arms once more, very gently so as not to throw her off balance, kissing the crown of her beautiful head. "I love you. Sleep well."

If I came right out and said 'You're beautiful'?

Why was he laughing? Did she say something funny? Neglecting the fact that her reaction was clearly delayed, Coline furrowed her brow at him, perplexed. Before she could even begin to think of what to say, however, she found herself in close proximity with him again; close enough to feel the warmth of his body. So warm... So...

She could feel her mind slip away from her grasp. Try her best, she did, but her eyes refused to stay open. It was almost as if there was this... intangible force taking over her body, forcing her senses to a close. What was it called? No, she refused to acknowledge it. She wasn't... exhausted... at all...

Dammit... Not again...

And with that her body grew limp, practically melting into the drow's arms. Her vision blurred and eventually faded into a familiar darkness.

Evelyn followed Xeiashi's movements through the hallway, avoiding suspicion.

After the smell cleared, Evelyn pulled Xeiashi by the wrist into a side room, and burst out laughing.

"That was the most fun I've had since...wow, since before the war! Xeiashi, this could be the start of a beautiful friendship,"
she smiled at her friend and spun in a few circles, giggling.

He received no response from the girl except for her to relax completely, a single breath slowly escaping as her body moulded into his embrace. Jessie drew in his own breath as if he were taking the air escaping from her, wrapping his arms around her more securely and closing his own eyes. If he'd wanted a reply from her... well, this was better than anything she could have said.

Time floated by as he held her there, soon reaching up to brush the side of her head, fingers stroking the feathery wisps of hair and the peachy skin of her cheek. The minutes ticked by, and she just sank further into him, breathing slow and even, as if there was no place she'd rather be in the world...

...

"Um... Coline?" he whispered, relaxing his grip slightly. Her breathing continued evenly, though she slipped most unnaturally a few inches down the front of his chest. He tightened his grip again.

"Hah!" he breathed incredulously , shifting her back into a better position. She'd fainted in his arms. Again. "Dear, dear..."

Scooping her up in what was by now becoming a very practised movement, Jessie carried her into the small room and lay her down on the bed, continuing to tut playfully all the time. He removed her shoes and pulled the blanket from underneath her, tucking her in tenderly when he placed it back down. "You spend half your time sleeping, and the rest wanting to sleep. I shall have to call you Sleeping Beauty from now on, little one."

Sleeping Beauty indeed. Still leaning over her from adjusting the quilt, his eyes lingered on the delicate facial features he'd grown so smitten with. His fingertips found themselves tracing the side of her face again, trailing their way after many quiet, reverential moments down to her lips. Awoken with a kiss, they say.

His hand moved to the back of her head, face roving up until his lips came into deliberate contact with her forehead. Then - though it came with a familiar smarting of loss, it was nothing compared to the sick, dark feeling of what might have been happening under different circumstances - he pulled away. She didn't realise quite how lucky she was that he was the one she kept falling asleep on, did she? Jessie would never dream of violating her - of abusing her trust. He knew too well, though, that there were those men and women who, in this situation, would take all that they could; everything that she had to give. Coline was a puzzling one - so naive, and yet not childish at all. Obviously the world had had its wicked way with her. If anything, that only made the part of him which clamoured for her scream even louder. Protect her, before it's too late! But how could he protect her when it was obvious that she didn't really want him around? Or... did she? Or - auugh. It was very honestly much better to not think about these things. Only time could tell, couldn't it?

He set off out of the room in search of a clock, finding the one he'd seen earlier downstairs. It was just gone twenty past seven... and it was still pouring. It sounded like it was blowing a gale, too. The windows had started to rattle on occassion. This unpredictable island weather was why he tended to avoid this neck of Gaia at this time of year. The windows... hopefully the noise wouldn't disturb her. Was there any way he could quieten the one in her room without resorting to heavy-duty hammer and nails? Strips of material in the joins to brace them... but this wasn't his home. He couldn't exactly go performing impromptu DIY without permission. Maybe crafting her a makeshift pair of earplugs would be a better idea. Or, you know, maybe not - finding non-earplug earplugs stuffed in her ears upon waking was bound to cause concern. He'd better, then, just leave things alone.

Still... he had around ten hours to kill, didn't he? What could he do in that time, in a stranger's house?

The presents! Opening all of them and setting them into nice, neat piles for Coline to peruse at her leisure would save a lot of time later.

Wait. What ever happened to Corie...? He'd instructed her to bring another load after half an hour. That was... what, four hours ago? Just what had happened there?

Anyway... it wasn't like there was anything he could do about it now. Corie wouldn't hear him if he called - he wasn't her master, as much as she obeyed him. So, he headed back upstairs and set about - very quietly and carefully - opening the wrapping and boxes and exposing their contents.

Things went swimmingly for a while - the lids were cast off to reveal many pleasant, fashionable women's clothes, which he sorted into neat piles of jeans, leggings, tops, dresses and skirts up against the wall: taking them all down and rearranging them again by colour when it became clear that there were just too many! Then, he opened the lid of a box and peered through the tissue paper, blinking at the strange sight that greeted him. "Hm...?"

He fished the lacy, black thing out of the paper... oh, god. "Cressa!" he spat, tossing the skimpy, sheer negligee to the side. Unseen by him, it fluttered elegantly to the ground with the motion of a wave on a clear day. The box went with all the other discarded ones, and he reached for another - only to find another batch of lingerie. He discarded these also, and opened more. By the time he'd opened all the boxes, to his horror, the lingerie had been joined by nine other sets of sexy underwear, including thongs and babydolls and barely-there bras. Thank god that that was all! But this couldn't be all... out of that huge pile of presents, what percentage would Cressa have managed to corrupt?

He sighed, massaging his temples, and stuffed them all into one box. It was his fault, of course. He had said 'one of every women's item, in every colour...'

He couldn't possibly let Coline get wind of these. Then again...

He paused in the process of shoving the last bra in alongside its sisters. What if she could've used them? Cressa was always preaching the vitality of a good, sturdy bra. He lifted up and examined the one in his hand. Ugh, on second thought, no. These were several thousand miles away from 'good' and 'sturdy.' And as for the underwear... well, Coline definitely needed something a bit more practical, keeping her training, amongst other things, in mind. He crinkled his nose slightly. What kind of trollop would wear these things on a daily basis? Even Cressa wasn't quite that impractical (he knew from unfortunate experience). If only something less slutty had turned up in one of the boxes... but even then, giving her underwear at this early stage was probably not the best idea no matter what the circumstance.

Well, that settled it. The lid closed with difficulty, and he wrapped a ribbon back around it to keep it shut. He'd have to smuggle this out in the morning under some pretext or another. Or just hide it in his robes to save any explanations.

Now there was the task of shifting all the rubbish downstairs so that it could be easily removed from the house...

(( OKAY so this is a timeskip FOR US - noone else - to early the next morning. It still counts as the same day in my mind because we'll actually be having another timeskip of a couple of days after this one is over. ))

The rain finally stopped at around three that morning. Jessie peeked outside the front door, and was rewarded with a clear, empty, if noticeably water-laden night beyond. The grassy ground beyond the small verandah appeared to be very muddy. It would make for interesting exercises this morning... if anyone turned up. If he turned up. Blaming an absence on the weather sounded incredibly tempting.

Around two hours later, just gone five - the time when he'd usually have kicked the recruits out of bed half an hour earlier - Jessie could be found reaching for the door of the fridge. The only recruit worth counting, in his mind, lay fast asleep in her bed upstairs. It was early by some standards, but she'd been asleep for around ten hours now, and he hadn't heard a peep from the Priestess. Doing this while she wasn't around worked well towards his aims. He easily found the things he needed - well, there wasn't really all that much to choose from. The flour, bread, eggs, salt, caster sugar and milk he needed were all there, so thankfully no last-minute changes were needed. A little fruit might have been nice... apparently in the Priestess' house, though, just as it had been in his home, it was a luxury.

Considerng carefully what would happen if she wasn't awake by the time everything was ready, he set an extra pot of water on one of the hobs and placed a plate on top of it. That should prove provision enough. It was joined by its smaller twin pot also filled with water, though as the eggs would need to be timed quite precisely he'd leave them til last. Eurydice had no toaster, of course, but Jessie wasn't used to that kind of machinery anyway. He pulled a flat pan from one of the cupboards and set it on the third hob. Well - it seemed he'd judged this very well. He set about to making the batter for the pancakes, whisking it to its smooth, thin consistency, the fourth and final, butter-smeared pan warming up to a high heat as he performed a few last careful stirs. Now... this was where it could all go wrong. He hadn't done this in a long while. Didn't they say something about making a "test pancake" first? That sounded a very good idea indeed.

He ended up making, not at all on purpose, two test pancakes. Two tablespoons turned out to be too much for the small pan. Just less than one was too little. He demolished both of those himself, and then made eight perfect - or near perfect, anyway - crepes, which he set in turn on the hot plate above the pot before covering with a second. He'd similarly done a "test" piece of toast that turned out very well and met the same fate as the other tests, so he set another four on the flat pan, toasting them accordingly before taking the pan off the heat and setting it aside to keep them warm.

Now - before he did anything else, he really had to go upstairs and see whether she was awake or even stirring. If she wasn't planning on waking up for another few hours he could always share the breakfast with Eurydice. Really, he'd just wanted to treat Coline as she deserved, whilst avoiding another repetition of last night.

So, he made his way back to her room, and opened the door.

(( Oh, and he's using the passive skill [Secret Housewife] throughout this post. >=3 ))

((took forever to reply...))

He smiled as she stuttered an apology to him "It's okay Lorika, I knew what you meant." He said almost pulling her through the library. "Although I must say. It's hard to imagine you being angry."

As they past row after row of books, it was only then that he realized he was holding her hand. quickly jerking his head he tried not to think about it, but it was too late as his face was already turning pink. If anyone saw him in this condition his reputation would ruin. It was like she could change the very way he acted just by her touch...He shook his head agin and continued on.

"So Ma'am where are we headed?" He said half playful, half serious
