With his eyes trailing down to what Mitsu was looking at exactly, he let out a sight before shaking his head. So much for keeping it under wraps for now. Reaching up, he placed a hand on her shoulder to try and reassure her. The poor girl seemed exhausted enough as is, seeing how she appeared to be having trouble keeping her eyes open.

"Don't worry, I'm fine. Go ahead and get some sleep. You look exhausted.." he started while thinking, "We should be pretty safe now.. so everything should be alright when you wake up again."

The thief felt pretty tired himself really.

Mitsu only needed to give Atticus the OK for him to start working on the dog. Scooting closer with medical bag in hand, he assessed the situation and what needed to be done. It wasn't good, but it wasn't terrible either. The wound was trying to heal, but needed a little help, it seemed.

"He'll be alright." He reassured the worn out girl, aiming a nod her way. Atticus pulled out a cloth and some alcohol to clean out the wound. Hopefully the dog would be out enough to not snap at him when he did the most painful part of the 'operation'. He did it gently, dabbing and not pushing, so it didn't start bleeding full flow again. After he was confident that the wound was clean as a whistle, he began bandaging it up, wrapping the dogs torso with the soft cloth. "Does anyone else need a free exam while I'm at it?" Atticus asked quietly as he lifted the dog to fully wrap around the wound. The comment was aimed at Blade, since Mitsu had been mumbling something about him being hurt too.

Mitsu shook her head as she turned back to watch Blade work. There was no way she could sleep, not until she knew Tobi was going to be okay.

Upon contact, the alcohol sent a stream of fire into the poor dog's wounds. Tobi let out a long whine as Atticus cleaned, staying fairly still for the most part. An eternity later and Atticus was finally wrapping the last of the bandages and securing them in place.

It was only at this time did Mitsu dare move close again to see how Tobi was doing. He whimpered and whined looking up at her as she knelt down to whisper something in his ear in reply. Whatever Mitsu said seemed to sooth the dog a little and he settled down the best he could, trying to get comfortable to sleep.

"Thank you," Mitsu said softly looking up at Atticus with half-lidded eyes.

Neko seemed to be getting no news fast but there was no time to stop to find out what was going on. He would just have to let the others work it out in the meantime. The wagon continued on through the city, the horses still at full speed. In no time the border of the town was in sight and in seconds the slave trading city was at their backs. Now they faced the open desert and what Neko hoped was the right direction. The sky was clouded tonight so he didn't even have the moon to give him direction.

Looking at the dog as the doctor worked on cleaning and bandaging Tobi's wounds, Blade soon glanced over at Mitsu as she finally seemed to be somewhat relieved. A good thing too. If the dog hadn't made it, he figured it would have devastated the poor girl.

"Er... I guess I could use one," he said lowly. Tobi had been taken care of, and it didn't seem that anyone else needed medical attention, so he may as well raise his hand for it. Bandaging the wound himself would be somewhat of a pain anyway.

"I'll make this up to you somehow, Atticus," he said. He wasn't sure what the raven would want, but one way or another he'd repay him.

Atticus softly patted Tobi on the head as he finished, turning to Mitsu. "You're welcome, now go to sleep." It wasn't a command as much as a strong suggestion. "We'll wake you up if anything happens."

At Blade's willingness for treatment, Atticus moved closer to him with the same items he'd used to treat the dog. "Take off your shirt."

What caught him off guard, though, was Blade's suggestion of repayment. Hah, repayment. Yeah. He had a couple of ideas. Atticus looked both ways before leaning closer to Blade, his voice softer than before. "If you really want to do me a favor, you can dispose of somebody for me." Was he serious, or pulling Blade's leg? Who knew? "If you assassinate Riyo's father for me, I can go back to my semi-normal life at my quiet home on a hill and live out the rest of my days in a bliss of solitude." His eyes looked directly into Blade's, and stayed there for a few moments before he leaned back and prepared the alcohol again. "Though, I suppose that isn't really equivalent exchange for treating a scratch."

With a nod, Blade gingerly threw off the coat and shirt Tessa's men had donned him with. There was the tear in them from the axe, but he didn't care. If he could help it, he'd never wear these things again anyway. With the shirt off, the relatively deep scar on his upper right chest/shoulder region became visible.

Before turning his back to Atticus so he could deal with the wound, he stared at the guy for a few seconds. His eyes had widened some as he was asked to kill someone off, and quite frankly with Atticus's usual tone he couldn't tell if he was joking or being serious. The thief hopped it was the former.

Speaking of which, he was curious of Riyo's father.. he vaguely recalled the events of the abandoned village that apparently had once been her home. Did he have something to do with what happened there?

"I don't think I can do that.." he said softly. Though of course, seeing how Atticus was their only medic around, there may be a time where the thief would end up owing him much more, "Maybe... maybe another time.."

The wound itself wasn't very deep at all, but spanned about 4-5 inches along his backside. Blood still trickled out of it slowly, likely due to the fact that he kept moving around.

With Blade's obvious discomfort at Atticus's suggestion of repayment, the raven shrugged. "This'll sting a little." Was his warning as he began dabbing Blade's wound with the wet cloth.

"I didn't expect a yes, so you don't have to worry. It was one of those jokes you secretly hope someone will take seriously." Atticus mumbled as he continued his work, making sure he was satisfied with how the wound looked before proceeding to dress it.

"I'm not pro-murder, but I won't deny that there are some people who deserve to lay dead in a ditch somewhere." And Jessee was one of those people in his mind...

Atticus's movements were slow and steady, as if this was something he'd done many times before. "Alright. I think you'll live."

Blade gritted his teeth while the wound was being cleaned. It was never a pleasant part getting fixed up.

"You have a point there.." he replied, on the comment that there were some who probably deserved to die. As of now, he just didn't know Riyo's dad enough to really know if he was one of those people.

Letting out a sigh once Atticus was done, he nodded before looking over at their pile of clothes and belongings. He'd grab his things a little later, seeing how it was still rather warm out.

"Thanks..." he said.

It didn't take much convincing to get Mitsu to lay down to go to sleep. She curled up next to Tobi, too tired to change out of her baby doll dress, and fell to sleep. Her head had barely hit the floor before everything went black and she was within the world of dreams.

----

Up front Neko seemed to be trying to fight the same thing Mitsu had succumbed to. His tired eyes were loosing focus and he found himself no longer paying attention but blankly staring forward more than once. But there was no way he could sleep. Not yet. The sun was still down so now would be the best time to travel. Once the sun rose they would bake in the heat and Neko wasn't one hundred percent sure if they even had water in the back. He had seen random things, possible food items, their clothes, things that looked like weapons, but water was a mystery.

"Think nothing of it." Atticus spoke simply and stood.

"And when I say think nothing of it, I mean you probably shouldn't go offering to repay something so small and insignificant as fixing a boo-boo." Atticus paused, as if about to say something else, but he could see the worn look in Blade's eyes. "You should go to sleep too. Tomorrow will surely be as unpredictable as today was."

It seemed that Atticus was the only person half-awake. Then again, what had he done? Run away from a nightmare? Yeah, that was about it.

His eyes roamed to the limp figure at the back of the wagon with blonde hair gracing the wood. '... There are some people who deserve to lay dead in a ditch somewhere...' His own words taunted him. What was the deciding factor of who deserved death and who didn't? Was it actions? Or was it the thoughts behind those actions? Was it the way someone was raised? Or was it what they did with that upbringing?

Atticus felt a twinge of guilt poking at his insides. It really wasn't her fault. One doesn't decide who they're born to. Some people just get lucky while others are dealt a hand of nothing but grief. And to already have that piss poor excuse of a life sold to the highest bidder more than a century ago...

Well, it wasn't his fault either. Or any fault of the people she has and will kill. He sighed and looked away from her, turning instead to the front of the wagon. He took careful and quiet steps forward. "Do you require medical assistance?" Atticus asked Neko, trying to rid his mind of previous thoughts.

Neko looked back to see Atticus right behind him. To his question he stammered a minute. At first glance one would think he had been badly injured. The nice white shirt he had been forced to wear was torn across the chest and a few places on his arms, those areas covered in blood. But beneath the cloth the wounds were non-existent having healed a little bit ago. There was only a faint reminder of the wound on his chest now, a small line that was slowly fading.

"No...uhh...they never touched me," Neko tried to smile in a cocky manner. "My clothes are a little worse for wear, but hey, it was a rental." He shrugged a little looking forward. Atticus usually let things drop so hopefully he would stay true to his character and do just that.

Hah. Never touched him, huh? That didn't look like blood from someone else...

But, true to his nature, he let it drop. "Alright then." It really wasn't any of his business. This just meant he had to do less free work. "If that's the case, then goodnight..." The doctor let out a small yawn and returned to his original spot somewhat close to Riyo. You know. In case she wasn't herself. He was sort of a light sleeper, so if she did make another attempt on his life, he'd at least see her face before she did him in, he supposed...

Ah, pessimism. It suited him well. he folded his arms across his stomach and closed his eyes, resting them more than actually sleeping.

Through the night Neko only stopped in short intervals to let the horses rest and to insure they didn't dehydrate. The sun would be rising soon and there was a limited supply of water in the wagon. It hadn't seemed like they had traveled into the desert far to begin with but that had mostly been done at night. The day was fast approaching and with it would come the intense heat of the sun.

And true to its nature, the sun rose in the east and within an hour of rising the heat was extreme. There was no shelter here, not even a cactus or rock formations. Just an endless view of nothing.

Having had little rest, Neko was starting to get twitchy and the heat was making him agitated. Was there really no end to this place? He had known of the desert, knew it existed, but he never could have imagine it would be so vast and barren.

"It's so hot," Mitsu whined. She had little energy for anything else. Soon after the sun rose she had stripped down the bare essentials to try and stay cool but it was of little help. Now she just laid sprawled out on the floor of the wagon, hot and miserable.

Tobi was in much the same manner, sprawled out next to Mitsu, whimpering his distaste for the heat as well. He was careful not to move too much, even to find a cooler spot, due to his bandaged wounds.

"We know it's hot," Neko snapped. It was hard not to. The heat waves coming off the sand distorting the distant horizon were enough to clue him in. He just wished he would see something in the distance...anything at all. Just something other than flat sand and dirt for as far as the eye could see.

Atticus had been awake for awhile. Not that you could say he'd ever fallen asleep. He'd stripped down long ago as well. Nothing but a sleeveless undershirt and his nice dress pants... Which, coincidentally, weren't so nice anymore after everything they'd been through.

He used his little wings to fan his face. They gave him just enough cool air to keep him sane... And because of their size, didn't use up much energy. "Ugh." Was his only words of protest against this heat. He hated the desert more than... Well, a lot of things.

He was surprised that Riyo was still sleeping, honestly. Her forehead was sweating and she had a look of distaste on her face. At one point, she'd tried to rid herself of the dress but only ended up in a more awkward position...

He'd thought about just taking it off for her... But somehow he didn't think the people surrounding him would think of it as a kind gesture...

So Atticus simply watched as she continued to struggle in search of a comfortable position, seeing as it was the only source of entertainment in this endless sauna.

Until her eyes opened, that is. "Mmm..." Riyo mumbled, closed them again, then managed to sit up. "Too hot..." her words seemed to echo Mitsu's, though whether she'd actually heard them or was making her own observation was a mystery. Her hands felt around the fabric stuck to her skin, assessing the best way to get it off.

She grumbled and finally managed to find the zipper on the back, throwing caution to the wind and practically ripped the damn thing off. Luckily, she still had her tank-top on... And pink underwear.

Atticus's eyebrow raised. "... Pink?" It wasn't really directed at anybody. More like a squeak of surprise. He... Hadn't really imagined she'd own anything pink. Not that he'd really thought about it!! But...

He turned his head away and tried to purge the image from his mind. Pink... Jeez...

Riyo let out a sigh of relief when that horrid piece of clothing was finally off. It was much cooler now. Still hot, but at least she wasn't cooking in her own sweat. She rubbed her face and finally re-opened her eyes to look around. Where were they? How had they gotten on this wagon? Moreover, what had happened back in the city? the last thing she remembered was seeing Neko on the ground bleeding profusely... From his chest... Her eyes widened as she looked at the people surrounding her. She spotted the familiar figure with short black hair controlling the wagon up front and settled down substantially. It looked like everyone was alright. Worse for wear, perhaps, but not dead.

Moreover, she felt great. Besides the obvious temperature spike, her mind was clear and her body was well-rested. A little smile crossed her lips as she stared out into the endless desert. "Wow..." She'd never seen anything so barren. It was impressive and overwhelming at the same time.

Nodding lightly, Blade soon settled down to rest as weariness overcame him. He slept heavier than usual because of it, though he still woke up fairly early once the sun had risen once again. The thief heard murmurings of how hot it was, though he probably wasn't feeling as uncomfortable as the others.

Still feeling sore from the previous day's events, he looked around at the others. From the looks of things, just about everyone was awake now. It was then, that he heard some shuffling and what sounded like a zipper. When he looked towards the source he found a half naked Riyo.. in pink underwear?

Shaking his head to himself, he groaned as he pushed himself up, making his way towards the front to get a better view of where they were going.

"Do you need someone to take over?" he asked Neko. Quite frankly he wasn't sure if anyone else had been doing the driving ever since they left.
