I envy you guys. You get to have real jobs and feel like productive members of society.....I'm a director in a boys (NOT mens) dorm at a no-name college ....Some of the students here are good kids but many of these boys simply destroy my faith in humanity....
Umm... I'm a Residence Advisor... Which is exactly what you just described, you need to have more pride in your work.
1. I'm a Director the only reason I carry out the duties of an adviser is because the school wont hire one.
2. I used to have pride in my work and to an extent I still do there are a lot of great students here who really make this job worth it when I can be a positive influence as some one who's older and has been there.
3. How often are you harassed by students? Bad mouthed by them? I've dealt with some of there drunk bar fights that they bring home. I've had to stand between one of my boys and some drunk 30 year old with a knife. And for what? To have my wife harassed and verbally degraded by the same boy I defended the night before?(Yes I know for a fact it was him)
4. It is SAD when GROWN MEN can't be trusted NOT TO PUT GLUE IN THE KEY HOLES OF AN ENTIRE FLOOR.....
I get it being the one to enforce the rules isn't going to win me any friends but it would be as bad if the school actually punished student for breaking the rules it MAKES me enforce.
You'd be frustrated too if you had to calm your crying wife down in the middle of the night because the students above you are slamming furniture and blasting music at 4 am. I love the job I really do it's the schools inability to give us administrative support that truly sickens me.
