He watched from above as Kiah wiggled from the suspicious-looking bushes. With a small smirk of satisfaction, he waited for her to be completely out in the open again. With all the ease of a strong gymnast, he swung down from the tree, landing right in front of her. He bent his knees to displace some of the shock of hitting the ground before standing up straight and placing his hands at his hips.
"Looking for me?"

Kiah had inched forward a few paces to see around the trees and was nearly frightened to death by Kanda dropping down from the tree in front of her. She jumped and let out a shriek of surprise before covering her mouth and spinning around, as if she was about to run away. When she realized from the split second she saw him who was behind her, she completed her turn and held a hand to her chest.
“... I think you almost gave me a heart attack!” she gasped, smiling warily and glancing around, as if something else was about to jump out at her. “How’d you know where I was?”

He wasn't really concerned that he had frightened her. He was sure that she would get over it quickly, and it was all in the name of fun.
"It's my job to suspect everything. So where is this secret place?"

Kiah grumbled good naturedly at his answer, taking a deep breath to calm her racing heart. At the mention of her spot, she turned back toward the thick wall of trees and bushes with a smirk, pointing in the direction of the bushes she crawled out of. “That’s the way I usually take, but there are some pine trees on the other side you can fit a whole horse through,” she teased, looking at him innocently.
With that said, she proceeded to walk back and crawl through the bushes, getting twigs lodged in her hair every time they got caught on her ponytail. She slowly stood up in her enclosed clearing, looking around at all of the overgrown grass that made it up to her ankles and the wild flowers dotting the area with color. Quickly picking out the table-like stump close to the trees, Kiah started running towards it, jumping on and seating herself on one side. It was quiet there, the wind not able to reach below the the wall of trees and the animals seeming to respect the serene hideaway.

Kanda balked a little at the idea of going under the bushes. He actually took care of his hair, and he didn't like the thought of getting twigs lodged in it. He was an Exorcist though, and sometimes you had to get dirty. On top of that, he wasn't a sissy. So, he followed Kiah through the brush and into the clearing. He straightened up when the got inside, and he immediately looked around. He slowly walked towards the stump as his eyes roved over the area. He craned his neck to see the dark sky, littered with twinkling specks of stars. The moon cast a soft light down upon the enclosed meadow, as it was almost completely risen in the sky. It's beautiful.

Kiah pulled her knees up to her chest and wrapped her arms around them, getting more comfortable on the stump. She watched him look around with a soft smile, following his eyes to the constellations above, glowing brighter there then they ever would while near the castle. The area seemed to have a calming effect on her, as it was an excellent place to relax when she needed to think some things through or just get a moment to herself. The added bonus was that only four people knew about the place, to her knowledge.
“... It’s nice... isn’t it?” she whispered, still looking up at the sky with her chin resting on her knees.

"Yeah.."
He took a seat on the other side of the stump so that his back was to hers. He continued to stare up at the night sky, in awe of it. He had seen the sky like this on missions, but it wasn't quiet the same. He could fully appreciate it without any sense of danger looming over him. He sighed softly and as he relaxed there, he started to slip into a fantasy. Or was it a memory?
Alma's face flitted before his eyes, bright and full of something almost resembling infatuation. At first Kanda scowled, but then his expression softened and he returned the smile that was on Alma's lips. The mirage continued to hover there in front of him, and soon Alma's entire body faded into view, his feet alighting on the ground. This version of Alma was older, closer to Kanda's current age, completely untainted by everything that had happened to the two.
"Yu..."
Alma reached his hand towards Kanda's cheek, intending to brush it gently. Before making contact, he let his hand fall again, as if distracted by something. He looked up to the sky and beyond it.
"It's pretty tonight, isn't it?"
Kanda continued to smile and nodded his head. His vision continued, and he didn't realize as he started to lean back towards Kiah. His back hit hers with a soft bump and he leaned against her, though he didn't feel it, unaware of what was happening in his reality.
Alma looked to Kanda again and past him, to Kiah. He didn't say anything about the young woman.
"Are you happy, Yu?"
Kanda's eyebrows immediately furrowed. He was confused by the question, and didn't respond to it. He still didn't know exactly what happy was, or how to be it. Alma saw his frustration and took a step closer, moving in. He leaned over Kanda and wrapped his arms around his neck, letting his face press against the top of his head.
Kanda's eyes widened. Though Alma wasn't really there, and his mind had fabricated the entire moment, he could still feel the touch. His eyes softened as he felt it and he spoke gently, out loud and unaware he was doing so.
"Alma...can we stay here forever?"

Kiah glanced back at him as he took a seat before returning her gaze to the stars, smiling a little in the process. She quickly picked out her favorite- the one that had lead her back the that house so many times in the past- and examined it, thinking back to everything she’d left behind. She focused on her father for the most part, because anything more would send her down a spiral of depression and panic that she didn’t need that night.
Surprised when he leaned back against her, Kiah blushed a little, turning her head and looking at him out of the corner of her eye. She was confused as to why he was nodding, but she didn’t say anything, simply shrugging it off and pressing her back against his more before looking back to the sky.
Kiah could hear him loud and clear, the peaceful silence sounding dead in her ears as she slowly looked around the clearing, trying to figure out who he was talking to. She was sure it wasn’t meant for her to hear- though she didn’t know who “Alma” was- so she stayed quiet.
“Al... ma?” she practically mouthed the word, staring down at her feet and feeling like someone kicked her in the gut. After a few seconds she looked back to the stars, face completely blank to hide any negative emotions she could be feeling.
