(( Back~ ))
"Evolved...?" Kiah thought back to all of the rumors she'd heard about the American Branch and their experiments, and shivered, wishing that none of them were true. She knew that there was a plethora of information that she wasn't let in on- which she discovered the many times she walked into a hushed room with Komui looking alarmingly grave-, and she debated how much she would really want to know.
"But how does that make you any less-," Kiah was about to ask, but was cut off when the waitress practically shoved herself between the two with their food. "Here you are, sweetie.~ Can I get you anything else?"
Kiah gave the woman a small glare before picking up her utensils, not appreciating being completely ignored.

(( Welcome back. c: ))
Kanda was relieved that she had been interrupted. The conversation had been looming dangerously close to a subject he wasn't sure he wanted to discuss yet. He was not, however, alright with how they had been interrupted. He scowled at the waitress for a second time since they had arrived at the restaurant. Her behavior was irritating. Not only was she rude, but she was sickly sweet and it left a slimy feeling on his tongue.
"Another waitress."
He replied without faltering for one second, his tone serious.

His smile turned more shy, his eyes glancing sideways as if afraid to make eye contact with such an intimate hand squeeze. He had been so wrapped up in finishing his schooling and acquiring his job that he had long missed the company of a woman, especially a beautiful one. This particular one gave him a serious case of the flutters, and Mishka had to remind himself that there were certain difficulties when it came to the interest of Liv. After all, she was an unwed single mother; his own family would disapprove heavily and he was supposed to disapprove himself. However, his feelings were quite different.
Liv was lovely and caring-- she seemed keen on taking care of others and did a spectacular job of it. The young woman was sweet, kind, and seemed to be a wonderful mother to a delightful little girl. He didn't know any true details of how she had ended up in her unfortunate situation, but whether he liked it or not he felt some anger towards the mysterious father for placing her in such a precarious situation. As the small hand slid out from beneath his larger one, the thoughts were tangled in her fingers and taken away with them.
"They are beautiful, and wrapped with such care," Mishka replied, taking a sandwich himself and peeling away the paper much more carefully than the youngster. He hadn't really paid much attention to what was inside of them; sandwiches weren't a common delicacy where he came from and he was interested in trying all of the different types in the interest of experiment. "Perhaps, if there are extra, you could cheer up patients with pretty smile and wonderful food. Some patient agree with my statement, that Liv should be nurse. Caring is very natural to you."
He was making sure to address both of them directly, not wanting to lose opportunity to talk to Liv or Luci that afternoon. He was equally interested in both, and wanted neither of them to feel neglected. "Some people... and me as well," he clarified, since she asked about his own love for the Lord, "believe that God is King of... all that exists. We believe He can make very good things happen, and He created our world from grass to sky. We love Him for making such place for us, and caring for us, even if we sometimes do not understand his care. Like parent, He is... Father."

(( Thank you~ <3 ))
The waitress stared at him wide eyed for a moment, as if waiting for the punchline of a joke. When it never came, she pouted and turned a withering glare on Kiah before stomping away. "Well, excuse me!"
Kiah met her stare with a blank look, waiting for her to be out of sight before she snorted in amusement. "She's not getting a tip from me!" She smiled at him for telling the woman off and sliced into her steak, letting the juices soak into the mashed potatoes for extra flavor. Taking more time than necessary to cut it all up, she watched him out of the corner of her eye, waiting for him to try it first.

He smiled a little at Kiah and then sank into his own meal. He didn't cut it all up at once, unlike her. Instead he sliced off the first piece and took a bite. He let it simmer in his mouth, chewing it slowly. The texture was very different than the soft noodles he was used to; It was chewy and dense. It was flavorful though, and he enjoyed the salted taste on his tongue. He tried the mashed potatoes next, and they too were buttery and warm. It was different, but the flavors were enjoyable. He tried the meat and potatoes together in the next bite and smiled at the delicious combination.

Liv laughed a little at his last comment. She hadn't ever thought about it before, but she supposed she would have a fairly good bedside manner. She didn't know if she could contend with the rest of the job, though. Not just the medical aspect, but...losing patients when you worked so hard to keep them alive...
"Me? Oh..no, I don't...well I don't know," she shook her head and looked down, always so unsure of herself.
She looked up as he explained to Luci not only his love for God, but the love of others for him. Her smiled softened as he continued to increasingly show how pure of heart he was, "You have a lot of faith," she said softly, in a tone almost of admiration for how he was able to believe so strongly.
Luci munched her sandwich and kept her eyes glued to the warm man next to her as he explained. She was in awe of what he told her, and wondered for a moment why she had never heard it before.
"You mean...he made all this?" she looked around the grounds at all the trees and sky. She felt the warm sun dappled on her skin and then looked back to him, "Why does he care about us so much? If he's the father...does that mean he made me, too? And you? And Mommy?"
Liv was very intrigued at Luci's apparent curiosity about God. She didn't know if it was because Mishka was telling her about it or because she was genuinely interested. Whatever the reason, she started to feel guilty for never having talked to Luci more about the subject. She tried to tell herself it was because of her age, but really it was because she had never thought of it. Just how she was brought up, she essentially was raising Luci the same way. It had never occurred to her to give Luci information on religion in case she had the desire to look further into it. Maybe she would have to look into it more herself, and not just for Luci's benefit.
She poured Mishka, Luci and herself each a glass of the lemonade and unwrapped her own sandwich as she continued to listen to the conversation her companions were having. She would have to have a private conversation about this with Mishka one day.

Kiah smiled excitedly when it seemed like Kanda was enjoying his dish, eyes turning downward to her own meal so he wouldn't see. She took a glob of the fluffy potatoes and smeared it on the chunks of steak, distributing them all as equally as she could. Finally taking a bite, she couldn't help but sigh quietly in satisfaction.
"Good, isn't it?" she questioned between chewing, tilting her head a bit. She had to dab at her mouth every once in awhile when she got a particularily juicy piece, scowling the entire time.

He nodded and did the same, dabbing his mouth here and there. He was a very meticulous eater, so it wasn't hard to keep from getting a mess everywhere. He ate at a moderate speed, not extremely slow, but slower than a lot of people. At her question he finished the bit in his mouth and wiped with the napkin before responding.
"I like the flavor. Salty things are usually my favorite. I'm not used to the texture of the meat. It's very solid."

Kiah swallowed her mouthful and set her fork down next to her plate, starting to get full half way through. "It gets more solid if you have it cooked longer. That's why I get it done medium rare... If it gets cooked too much more, it's way too chewy for me," she nodded wisely, spearing another piece.
"I'm sure you know this, but...," Kiah looked around quickly before whispering conspiratorially, "Jerry makes it better. Plus he puts carrots in the potatoes for me."

He laughed a little.
"Jerry is the best cook. I've never had food better than what he's made."

(( Welcome back, Jack! <3 *Tucks into bed with Liv* ))
"No matter how much you try, you just can't match him," Kiah sighed jokingly, wishing she had a spare afternoon to help out in the kitchen and learn to make some new dishes.
Finishing her meal, Kiah waited to flag down a different waitress until Kanda was done, a bit embarrassed that she'd eaten it all faster than he had.

(( Jack: Hello! I'm sorry to hear that. :c ))
He tried to finish quicker when he noticed Kiah fidgeting awkwardly as she waited for him. When he was finally done and the waitress had taken the dishes away, he looked to her blankly, not sure what to do next.
"I suppose we should head back now."
