So would you mind if I bared my soul?
User Image

Something was very wrong in the way that she came towards him. The uneasiness in the room seemed to have trebled in a very short space of time. Still - he couldn't help but hope, and that hope almost rocketed through the roof as she came right up and brought his arms around her. This was going better than he'd thought! Had he finally fixed things? Did she feel confidence in him now...? His wide eye tried to meet hers, but she kept them downcast at all times. No. There was something wrong here. He soon realised exactly what, when the guiding hand forced his against the clasp of her bra.

He released her sharply, equal parts shock and confusion. Hadn't she been listening to a word he'd said? Was this some kind of test?

Or was it what she really wanted?

No, it couldn't be - not after all this time and fuss. But... if it was, and he'd been led up the garden path...

A knot was balling itself up in his stomach. Jessie wavered: face a picture of hurt; arms limp at his sides. Sickly, he appreciated that maybe he should've come to expect this. As earlier, he suddenly thought of how he was being... so naive about the whole thing. Blindly, blindly opening himself, thoughtlessly giving her everything – the possessions were not of importance, but the pure love and devotion that went with them were. All of his years, and still little Coline seemed to have a better handle on the way things really were than him.

Why... why did it have to be this way, with her?

Rocking forward, he planted a kiss on the top of her head. With a voice that conveyed all of the shock and deep disturb, he hesitantly gave her an audible answer to her silent questioning. ”I'm sorry, but... no means no.”

Jessie then turned with grace that was almost languid in its dignity, opening the protesting door and making for the stairs.

Maybe the better question was how he could have expected anything different.

If I came right out and said 'You're beautiful'?

(( This is basically what I'd originally planned to write cut in half. I'm pleased with it now, I think - the conflict, the hint of the past, and the reaction. Is guud. ))

[Fiend]

Fiend gleefully grinned as he helped himself to a huge portion of the Order's food stock, noisily munching into raw food, although it wasn't heard through the pantry's thick door.

[Dorothy]

She hesitated. For a long time.
She couldn't bring herself to knock on the huge doors before her.

What if they treat me badly like back at home..
No! I have to find brother...and this is the only place i can get information...

But..it's still too scary...

Her clenched fist slowly fell back to her side as she lost the will to take a step forward. All she could do was stare at the temple's doors helplessly.

Coline felt a mix of relief and bafflement upon his release. She had honestly expected him to have made his way with her. It would have eased her thoughts somewhat; it certainly would make a lot more sense than the gesture he'd shown just now. Not saying she would have liked it any better if he had violated her, but...

As the questions swirled on, a sudden thought swept through her mind. What she had done... perhaps it was too drastic a measure. It helped clear her suspicions, true, but what did that say about her? The degraded recruit brought a hand up to roughly rub at her temples. He must think she was some kind of... prostitute now. Great. She should have known she was doomed right from the start.

This only served to remind her of the consequences of being too assertive. She did fine with simply following orders, anyhow.

...

Lifting her head, Coline took a quick scan of the room with furrowed brow. Everything was starting to look hazy, but not enough for her to overlook the absence of something that should have been there. "...Jessie?" she called out expectantly. Where was he? The thought slowly registered into her head and she froze, her eyes widened. He was leaving, wasn't he? He had every right to, of course, but... should she stop him? Was it too much to ask him to stay after what had happened? Or would it be better if she left him to his own devices?

With a frustrated grumble she made for the door, stopping midway to sweep the neglected tray from the chair before finally stepping outside. Her head snapped to the direction of the stairs to see the drow's retreating form and, without thinking, her hand shot forward, the force of the gesture eliciting a small clatter from the tray. "Wait!" she implored, hand retracting slowly, as did her tone. "Please wait."

She hadn't thought about what to say at that point, to be honest, but figured it would be best to begin with the most obvious point. "I... would prefer if you stayed." she lowered her head for a deep bow. "I promise not to bother you for the rest of the evening, or for as long as you deem necessary, so please. You will find my room to be most comfortable." she slowly rose her head, unable to meet his gaze. "I will be retiring downstairs, of course. There is... no cause for you to worry."

"It's not enough to know your limits..

Odin had spent more than her usual time at the Temple today. Odd as it was she felt that she needed just that much more of a boost than she normally would. Something had changed on the island these recent days, though she could not say for sure what.

She looked up from where she was seated and watched the water trickle down from beside the altar. Silence wrapped the room for a few more minutes before she decided that was enough for the day.

Odin promptly got up, gathered her things and headed for the door. The large wooden doors moaned in protest as she opted to move them. Some of the dwindling day's lights has shifted into the dark service room from the crack in the door. Only when she had swung the door halfway did she notice the shadow of the figure standing outside.

Usually people would not wait outside the Temple as they were free to come and go for services or personal meditations, as Odin had just done. But the girl standing outside the door didn't look usual to her. By now Odin was familiar to the faces of nearly everyone in the Order, though she did not talk to them much she was certain that she knew them from the services, gatherings and training sessions on the island.

After a while of trying to match the girl's face with someone from the Order it registered in her head that she was looking at a newcomer.
She snapped back from her surprised state and opted to be polite.

"Uhm.. Hello there," she started shakily, hoping she did not startle her.
"I'm sorry, but are you new here? It's just that I'm not sure if I've seen you around."

Odin smiled slightly and hoped that the expression on the girl's face was not her doing.

"Just let me give you everything, as I desire..."
User Image

He'd always tried to forget, to gloss over the fact that wherever he went, women and men seemed to... want him. To possess him, to take him, to say that they had conquered him. He took all the propositions in his stride, fending them off like little more than pesky moths. He'd learned to disconnect himself from it - from them. He'd had to, from his very first time. But then, look at all the pain just trying to forget had caused him! He couldn't please, could he?

With a frustrated sigh, Jessie stopped at the top of the stairs, shifting his weight to lean against the wall. He could still hear the rain pounding - eternally pounding, grinding his progress to a halt. Then again, he hadn't planned to leave. He wasn't sure what he was doing. Although stewing in thoughts of a few complicated decades might not have been the best idea, it was all he felt he could do.

It was all his own stupid fault, of course. How could he have flipped like that the week before?! So many years - decades in which he'd felt nothing of the sort for anyone - all of his discipline, disintegrating all at once. How foolish. How stupid. He couldn't blame Coline for how she felt (if she felt it, which he thought she might - but after that, maybe not). God knew he'd... he'd... he knew how it felt.

The clatter of the tray brought his head sharply to the left. The knot in his stomach tightened again as she called out to him. He wouldn't run away from her, of course. Her actions didn't merit that, from his experience. Still, why shouldn't he? If all she'd done was use him, he had every right to...

Something about the slump of her shoulders and the breathiness in her voice caught his attention, and he scrutinised her piercingly while she pleaded with him, her eyes downcast and unseeing. He took a few steps towards her and, as she finished, reached out to take hold of the tray. His reply was quiet and clipped... yet he realised, with concern, what this might mean. Perhaps her weariness was just getting the better of her mind.

"You're exhausted. Go to bed."

"...And believe me when I say that I love you."

Her grip on the tray only tightened as he approached, eyes narrowed yet otherwise unmoving. The tone of his voice lacked that loving quality she'd grown so used to in days past. She really had gone too far this time, hadn't she? Silently, she resigned herself to the cruel consequence she brought upon herself, closing her eyes solemnly before returning his brief response. "...Yes, Captain."

And with that she broke away, sweeping past the drow and towards the stairs, halting in her tracks after that first woozy step down. What was once a single flight of stairs became two. It was then that she remembered exactly what purpose the railing served. Convenient, wasn't it? Clutching onto it firmly, the used tray occupying her other hand, Coline resumed her slow descent.

[Dorothy]

Dorothy jumped as the door opened before her, even though she didn't do anything.
A girl came out, and after a brief moment of silence, she greeted her.
On reflex, Dorothy hid behind her long fringe and edged away slowly.

"Aa-ah... Uuuuuuu..." Dorothy mumbled as she tried to talk, but she was too timid to speak without stuttering to the point her words were intelligible. Embarrassed, she jumped back.

"S-Sorry!" She bowed quickly before running away.

What am I doing? Someone came to talk to me but all I can do is run away?

She stopped quite a distance from the building and dropped to the ground with a deep sigh.

I'm a fool, aren't I? Coming all the way out here to find brother but I can't even talk to the first person I see..

Jessie let her sweep past him with the tray and watched her go, a sudden flashback to her move of just a few minutes earlier stabbing painfully at his chest. How beautiful she was in her soft uncertainty - had things really changed so much, so quickly? Maybe after she'd had some rest they could have a real conversation about this. Surely he knew her better than that? Then again, maybe he didn't know her at a-

He surged forward reflexively, crying out as she teetered horrendously at the top of the stairs, visibly wobbling as if to collapse. She managed a couple of shaky steps, and then, after a few moments of indecision that seemed to hold him in a freeze-frame, he was beside her. One arm went around her waist - the other to the tray. Concern for her wellbeing overrided everything else.

"Please, love, I beg of you," he pleaded, gripping her supportively while trying to gently prise the cumbersome platter from her hands, "Come and lie down upstairs before you do yourself an injury!"

Eyes still trained on the stairs--just a little more and she was home free--Coline's lids lowered to a close. Honoring his request would be ideal, and yet she found herself at a loss; how could she ask him of such a thing? As much as she wanted to give it more thought, however, idling was doing very little to help her cause.

"...But where will you sleep?" she answered breathily, indecisively. "I can't ask you to sleep on the floor. That would be... unkind, to say the least."

"It's not enough to know your limits..

Great job, Odin.. You scared her off..

She sighed inwardly as she stared off to where the girl ran off too.

"I am really no good with people am I," she mumbled. She looked over again to where the girl disappeared to.

"Should I go after her or not..?" Odin muttered to no one in particular. Her feet fidgeted around uneasily, as if they wanted to bolt after the girl. Her mind seemed to be telling her that pursuing her would just scare here more.

The island wasn't really that dangerous to those who know it, maybe. But strange things had been happening lately.

She's just a newcomer, and you of all people should know that it is dangerous in the dark.

That was enough motivation for her to dart forward in pursuit of the stranger. It was odd, usually Odin did not go out of her way to try to help someone. The Order has such an influence on me.

"Hey! Are you out there!" she called out. "I'm sorry if I startled you. Please come out. If you need something I'll try to help you."

She huffed as she trudged in deeper into the foliage squinting her eyes in search of the stranger. Odin hoped to find her soon, before the dark completely consumed the island.

"I've already slept, sweetheart. Don't you recall?" he pressed gently, finally wresting the tray from her grip. Now there was the task of turning her around without calamity. He began by turning himself around, momentarily releasing her and shifting the tray to his other hand, the opposite now coming back to her.

With a combined effort, they managed to manoeuvre her around into an about-face. "There we are, now - there's a good girl," he whispered encouragingly, arm now wrapped back firmly around her waist. If she fainted - which, he had to keep in mind, she might - she'd be secure, not able to slip more than a couple of inches.

And so, looking rather like a waiter attempting to shift a drunk patron with the tray balanced in Jessie's right hand, they reascended the stairs. It was thankfully a short trip, but nonetheless very slow and shaky. The walk of a couple of yards to her room went much better, as Coline proved she was still capable of walking quite respectably. The tray had been set down on the floor at the top of the stairs, and so Jessie was now free to hold her much more efficiently.

As the immediate concern for her safety worked itelf away, they were left in a thoughtful silence.

"You know I'd never dream of hurting you," he whispered into her ear as they neared the door. It wasn't a question... it was more like a gentle reassurance - a softly spoken, undeniable fact.

Evelyn

Evelyn smiled softly glancing to her side, watching the gears spin in Xeiashi's head. Evelyn was sure that they wouldn't get into too much trouble with it, especially if they didn't get caught. With this thought, her soft smile became sly and her steps became more sure, as she entered the empty sanctuary on Xieashi's arm and steered him towards the incense closet.

If a diety created all that is...

and to neutralize it later....what if I transmuted some deoderant..and maybe some hydrogen... into it...then when it burned to the end it would be self-destroying...yes, I shall do that Xeiashi thought as he concentrated on the small pile of incense before him. Spell finished, he turned to Evelyn.

[Trans Prop, Bounce sometime earlier]

"Ready?" Xeiashi asked of her, despite knowing the answer already. The expected 'yes' came, and together they lit the reeking sticks and began chucking them everywhere. The storm, aimed away, quickly made its way out the door and was soon followed by the first cries of 'Okay, who ripped one?'

Xeiashi ran out first and admired his handiwork, smoking, reeking trails following incredibly bouncing sticks. Within a few minutes, the incense had infiltrated at least 5 other rooms. Whilst Xeiashi waited for Evelyn to finish lobbing her much-larger pile, he asked, "Lorika didn't need those for anything...right?" Noting her lack of projectiles, he allowed her a few moments to survey the damage, then grabbed her arm and rushed into the growing fog; adding his own chokes and 'Who ripped'-s to the ruckus, trying to camouflage himself as just another victim. Evelyn, beside him, seemed to be doing the same.

And rush they did, through clogged hallways and choking bodies, trying to leave the scene of the crime without looking suspicious. Exactly 10 minutes after the reek was first produced, it was abruptly gone. Chokes and gags were replaced by bewildered and, in the case of those who actually 'ripped one', sheepish looks. The fog remained though, obscuring all vision. One voice, Xeiashi's, called out, "Verrrry funny whoever did this. I was kinda...busy, and I'll be sure to let Lorika know that somebody got into the incense cupboards..." Were he visible, he would have added to the illusion by coming from a side room, tightening his robe. Of course, a farce was all it was; Xeiashi had no intentions whatsoever of doing anything of the sort, but the no-nothing acolytes didn't need to know that.

On the other hand, it was amasing how quickly the room cleared, both of acolytes and of the troublemaking pair.

((muahaha...I haz foold joo all...stoopid monkeys))

...wouldn't all writers be dieties of their own worlds?

-Xeiashi Zakariz
