"Oh," she said softly, not particularly fond of that sickening feeling that gnawed at her stomach. She had been trying to avoid an awkward topic with Liv just to end up in one herself, but Sil had resolved long ago that she would have to learn how to deal with the feelings instead of just pushing them back in some dark place.
Even with that resolve, she didn't address you're still in love with him. That was a whole different issue all together. Feelings like that did not go away over night even if part of her wished they would desperately. When she had gotten involved with Cross she had wished she felt nothing for Lavi, and now the act was continuing in reverse. "Some things that are meant to happen for some people... just aren't meant for Exorcists, Liv, and even less-so for a General," she sighed, her eyes refusing to make contact with Liv's. Instead, she gazed out, watching Luci thoughtfully.
"I hadn't been an Exorcist long when we got in engaged, and I was young and stupid. Well... younger and stupider, anyway. If I had listened to reason... " None of this would have happened... No one would have gotten hurt in the end. She was speaking vaguely, which didn't offer any concrete details, but she had a feeling Liv could connect the dots better than anyone else even if Sil didn't want her to. "Either way... It is what it is, and it certainly isn't pleasant... but I don't regret my decision, either... He's safer this way."

Liv watched her closely with eyes that increasingly filled with sadness. She wished there could be a way for everyone involved to be happy, but she knew it could never be. She knew not just from the facts but now after her own experience with the imperfections of life. She sighed and sat in silence for some time after Sil's explanation. She indeed could connect all the dots, but that didn't make any of it better. She felt so much heartache for Sil, Lavi, and Cross alike.
"I understand...I do....I just," Liv struggled then.
She didn't want to give Sil some kind of backwards lecture, but she felt so strongly about the subject. She loved Lavi to death, she really did, and she wanted his happiness more than anything. But she felt so strongly in her heart that Sil and Cross were supposed to be together, despite the danger and the complications.
"I care for Lavi. I really care for Lavi. You know that I do, Sil. His happiness means more to me than I really care to admit," she said honestly, "It's silly, but...You and Lavi are wonderful friends. You were always wonderful friends, and I know that your love for each other runs deep. I know that your love for Lavi isn't quite the same as your love for Cross, no matter what. I just think that...you and Lavi were wonderful as friends and as companions in that friendship."
She sighed a little exasperated at herself for how it sounded, "I mean, I'm not saying that romantically your love isn't wonderful either, I...I would never say that about someone. It's just...I always felt..I always really felt that it should be Cross. And I know it's your feelings that matter and not mine. Who am I to say what's right for someone? I'm not..I can't, it's completely unfair. I..I'm sorry, Sil," she turned to face forward and sat quietly, staring out across the park, shutting herself up. She bit her lip a little and sighed, kicking herself for even bringing the subject up, and especially for saying what she said. She opened her mouth to speak and then closed it again, shaking her head. She opened it again then and said one last thing, "I do love Lavi. And I know that you make him immensely happy. And I'm sure that you will continue to, no matter what. In his eyes, everything you do is...so wonderful. So...worry less about that."
