"It's getting slower?" he asked, concern in his tone.
He knew what slower meant for him, and he hoped that it didn't mean the same thing for her. He frowned as he watched the girl, slowly coming to the realization that they had possibly much more in common than he ever thought.

"Are you joking? This is nothing. And anyway, I don't always cook for everyone like this. I just thought since you were joining us this morning that I might make it a little special. Normally Jerry does most of the cooking, but I gave him this morning off," she smiled and continued to stir the batter, sighing a little after a few stirs, her smile fading slightly, "It's real motherhood that's the most difficult..."
She lowered her voice so that hopefully their conversation wouldn't be overheard. She wanted to talk to him about Luci, and at the moment she felt like it was a more sensitive matter. Being that he was the only one she had spoken to about the issue recently, she felt like keeping it that way, "I spoke to Luci's father last night. He agreed with me one-hundred percent that Luci should come live with me here. I was a little surprised by that, but I knew that no matter what, he would accept my request in the end...I just didn't expect it to be so easy. So, I'm going to pick her up this afternoon."
She kept stirring, watching the batter become thoroughly mixed. She had very mixed feelings about going back to the Mansion to get her daughter, but she certainly couldn't explain that to Mishka. Her face still showed her troubled thoughts though. She hoped that Luci wouldn't hate her too much for taking her away from Tyki, because it was well known that she adored her father just as much as he adored her. She was also nervous about how Luci would be received by everyone in the Order. It was common practice for members to be separated from their families as soon as they joined up, never to see them again, but Liv had always broken that rule. Well, she also broke a much larger rule by fraternizing with the Noah, but that just couldn't be helped.
The point was, would they all be jealous that she was able to have her daughter there, when so many of them had abandoned their children for the sake of the war? And what about the few that knew Luci's origins? How would they feel about having the daughter of a known enemy right there in Headquarters? Of course she had already been cleared to bring Luci to the Order long ago. By some grace of God, Komui hadn't let anyone know about her relations with the Noah, and accepted everything that happened. Liv wondered if with all the other corruption in the upper levels of the organization, that Komui had just stopped caring about regulations. And he knew Liv, he knew that she wouldn't endanger her friends and essentially extended family. She finished stirring the mixture with another small sigh as she let go of the spoon, patting at her skirt for lack of something to do with her hands.

The pancake pile had grown to a considerable amount finally, and he moved the plate that he had been stacking them on over to the counter that Lavi and Sil were both leaning on. He didn't notice that the two had fallen into their own hushed conversation since he had found his attention wholly distracted by Liv. For some reason, playing house with her was far more enchanting than he was comfortable admitting, and after seeking out syrup and butter he returned to his place to start on a second stack.
"It is good news!" Mishka said, his voice a low and soft exclamation, his light colored eyes widening. He couldn't understand why the young woman was so somber when she had been assured that she would be allowed to take her child with her. He would have thought that Liv would be ecstatic that she didn't have to fight her child's father to make sure the child was properly taken care of. "... Is it not...? Why so..." the word he was looking for was conflicted, but apparently it was a word he hadn't quite learned. Instead his lips curled down into a soft frown, his eyes soft and concerned as he gazed evenly at her.
Carefully, he took the bowl from her hands as she continued to stir distractedly, pausing her motion. He knew that motherhood was complicated and was sure he couldn't begin to grasp the concept, but Mishka wanted to try and understand anyway. One day he hoped a woman would be mother to his children, after all. "If worried about... father," he didn't know what else to call Tyki, since he had never heard his name, "I can still go with. Infirmary can survive some day without me, as they did before."

"No- it is good news, it is," she tried to assure him quickly, not wanting him to think she didn't love her own daughter or something else absurd, "It's just...it's complicated. Even though I've been cleared to bring her here to live with me, I'm concerned about how her presence will be received. After how everyone else left their families behind, here I am able to bring my own with me," she tried to explain the parts she was able to.
She thanked him when he took over the mixing for her, smiling appreciatively, "I know Luci needs her mother. I know that all children need their mother, but I feel that a father's presence is also very important. Maybe not as much being that Luci is a girl. You know, boys need a strong father figure so that they can grow up to be good fathers themselves one day. So in that respect, Luci doesn't need her father as much. But...she still needs him to some extent. I know that he wasn't always there before, and...in fact that is one of the major factors that led to things not working out, but. I know even though he's hardly around, she adores him," she explained, everything just spilling out so easily. He was so easy to talk to and she hadn't really spoken to anyone about it for some time; she started to realize she really needed to talk about it.
"I'm not worried about him. I know that he'll get over things and get on with his life. He has many other things to keep him occupied, " she said with a slight bitterness to her tone before softening again at his offer, "No, it's alright, really. I don't want to bring you into the middle of all this, that's not fair to you. I'm sorry to unload all of this on you, Mishka. We hardly know each other still, and here I am pulling you into the middle of my hectic personal affairs," she frowned at herself, eyes downcast as she scuffed her foot against the floor a few times.

((Oh goodness, I agree. Tossing and turning is awful. It got really hot yesterday and even hotter today. I'll be sleeping on top of my covers tonight. Once I'm too tired to pay any mind to the heat.
EDIT: And now there is an ambulance, fire engine, and EMS truck outside my window.))
