Babbalui Hey, what is the jump-shoot-jump tactic? How does it work? I thought you needed vector retro thrusters for that and those are special issue? JSJ tactics are what Crisis Suits, and to a lesser extent, Stealth Suits and Gun Drones, are all about. It's a literal description of what you do with your Jetpack units: Hide behind a strip of area terrain, or a building. Then use your movement to either jump to the other side of the terrain piece (or walk in, if the terrain piece is too thick), and pop off all the shots you can at an enemy unit. In your Assault phase, jump back behind the terrain. The enemy can't see you, and can't shoot back. This is just part and parcel of what makes the vast majority of Tau armies successful: Target denial. What really makes Tau shine is the ability to deny useful shots to your enemies. Your Stealths, Gun Drones, and Crisis suits JSJ, and can't be shot. Stealths and Sniper Teams in the open are stealthed, and shots against them are often wasted. Hammerheads are protected by being fast-moving, heavily-armored skimmers and by thier extremely long range. Broadsides by thier extreme range and thier ability to take Shield Drones that minimize what few shots they do take.

I never thought of it that way, thanks. How are sniper drone teams stealthed though?

yo_momma117 I never thought of it that way, thanks. How are sniper drone teams stealthed though? Exactly the same way as Stealth Suits. Page 40 of your codex; each model in a Sniper Team has a stealth field generator, same as Stealths.

My cousin likes to use terminators against my firewarriors (I know, real fair isnt it?) so Im gonna use them for anti-terminator support.

The way a stealth field works is detailed on page 27 of the Tau codex. Do you not have a codex, or is the wording on that piece of equipment confusing to you? Regardless, Stealths or Sniper teams do not make the best anti-Terminator unit. Broadsides (especially with multi trackers and thier plasma upgrade) or Plasma-equipped Crisis are the best anti-Termi units that the Tau can field. I deter Termis from hacking into my vulnerable Fire Warriors by creating a firebase anchored down by my Broadsides. If Termies come in, they can be assured to lose at least 4 of thier number before making it into assault. Or if you really want to keep your Fire Warriors away from Termies, mount them in Devilfish, and the Termis will never move fast enough to make it to assault.

Oh, so you can move up to 12" during movement (If desired), then move behind something with the extra 6" during assault? I thought that assault was meant for... You know? Assaulting? Is that a rule? Are you allowed to use the assault move to move anywhere you want? I've honestly never heard of that. neutral

Raptors and Assault Marines have something similar. A tad like Eldar's Fleet of Foot, probably too.

Actually, it's more akin to the way an Eldar Jet Bike can always move six inches in the assault phase, even if not charging something. It's unique to the Tau and the Eldar.

Look at your main rulebook, page 55, under "Jetpacks." They get 12" of movement total, 6" in the movement phase and 6" in the assault phase, same as all normal infantry. The difference is that the assault move can be made as normal movement, instead of being forced to only use it to assault. If you've been playing with Tau suits moving 12" like basic Jump Infantry than you've been doing it wrong. They use Jetpacks, not Jump packs, which aren't the same thing. A.R.G.U.S Mykal I think it's Hit and Run. Raptors and Assault Marines have something similar. A tad like Eldar's Fleet of Foot, probably too.
-Mykal Hit and Run doesn't allow you to move in the assault phase, it allows you to leave combat at the end of any assault phase. And Fleet of Foot is done instead of shooting so it's not really comparable. The assault move that the Tau and Eldar get are because of Eldar Jetbikes and Tau Jetpacks, specifically.

Vectored retro thrusters are the ones that allow you to hit and run, aren't they?
As for the movement thing... Crap... I really liked using that 12" move. sweatdrop Oh well, I like being able to move away during my assault phase better. 3nodding

Grrreat News. I went to games workshop and with my money plus my fathers I got two Crisis suits, a sniper drone team, dice, and firewarrior squad. I assembled the crisis suits and set them up on the base (funny thing, both crisis suits didnt come with bases besides for the ones for the gun drones, the staff gave me two 40 mils) as to look like they are flying. They look pretty cool. I put them in fire Knife pattern like you guys said, and the targeting array, so they are coolness. I also made some cool poses for my firewarrior team, I have spares that I made (using squads of 8, 12 in a box) that are the shas'ui so I can give both of the squads leaders if I want. I also did a pretty good job at making a firewarrior handle a grenade with the left hand instead of the right. One of them was for kicks, but I guess I can use him: I had him using two pulse rifles, I cut off the thumb for one of the arms and glued a gun in place while using a piece that allowed the other arm to point the gun straight forward. I officially hate pewter models, It took me forever to attach, reattach, rereattach, etc. the guns to the drone domes. Played a quick game with my cousin, he tried to pull a fast one on me. My army list was a bit over 500 pts, and I said equal value. What does he do? Puts up command squad and a terminator squad on the table, which is over 700 pts already and then he says that he needs a dreadnaugh to kill the crisis suits (I didnt say it was fair, he thought three Crisis (two crisis, one shas'o) was really unfair and cheap, but I knew they could go down easy with that firepower on his side). Most of the time we were arguing about him and his stupid dreadnaught, I was trying to point out to him that he was already on and a half times my army in points. So with it settled we began, I got the first turn, and I shot the s**t out of his terminators, killed 2 out of 6. Took a few pot shots at of his command squad, killed a few. When it came to his turn, his terminators advanced, tried to hit some firewarriors, killed 3. Command squad advanced, shot at firewarriors, killed 1. My turn, shot the s**t out of terminators again, killed another 2, they routed, and killed 2 off of the command squad. By my third turn he had given up hope being the sore loser that he is, he still his terminators which had re-grouped and begun slaughtering fire warriors while the few guys left in his command squad were getting read to beat up the other fire warrior squad. I win blaugh heart domokun whee

I played a four way game really recently. I was Tau(Of course) and played against my friends Nids and Imperial Guard and Witch Hunter armies. I also had a Space marine ally as he did not have 1500 points with him. Now we all had a good game exept that the Witch Hunter player was so obviously a cheater. For a start I should of blown up him Immolator as I got a hit on it side armour. And rolled a 4 to penertrate it and blew it up by rolling a 5 on the chart. Only he used the glancing hit chart so he said I only immobilised it. Needless to say I was very angry by this but decided to not make a fuss. But what really got on my nerves was when I fired two sniper drone teams, two crisis suits, the remanace of a firewarrior squad (7 of them where left by this time)and a squad of 5 stealths into a squad of 5 Clestians and only 1 dropped in the end. I think he made up this bull about them having a 4+ invunerable save. He must of cheated at least 6 different occasions during that game. And he even had the nerve to brag about only losing about 7-10 models through the whole game. All I have to say is that we where all furious about thia and are going to refuse to play him again. Neither one of us said anything about his cheating. But I am going to mention that I know next time we are at the club you can bank on that. Sorry about the rant I just had to get that off my chest cause I really hate cheaters of any kind.
