She turned to look at him again and placed a hand on his knee, "Whatever it is sweetheart, I'm sure Kiah would want to know. Especially if it's as important as it sounds," she squeezed his leg.

(( I know! D: I was just waiting so I could RP both my characters at once. ))

"But that's the thing... if she knew about it... she wouldn't be able to be happy here...," he sighed in frustration, taking a bit of comfort in her touch. Kyle leaned his head on his hand, putting his elbow on the leg Liv's hand wasn't resting on. "But if she doesn't know..."

Liv frowned a little, not sure what he would possibly have to tell Kiah that could make her so unhappy. She moved her hand from his knee to his back and rubbed soothingly, "If I'm right...this isn't something that she could handle coming from anyone but you, Kyle. I know you want to protect her for as long as you can. Forever if you can. I know what it's like to want to protect someone and shield them from all the world's cruel, twisted jokes. But it will probably hurt more in the end if you keep delaying it, honey."

She twirled the hair at the back of his neck around her fingers absentmindedly, "And you can't bear the burden yourself, either. It will become so much lighter if you share it, even if it means someone else has to carry some of the burden. I think you'll find that...most people, regardless of how much pain it may cause, would rather help to carry the burden. I don't think Kiah would want you to keep it to yourself. I don't think she would want you to be so chivalrous in this case, if it meant causing you undue stress..."

"The thing is... she might never find out if I don't tell her, because we're never supposed to go home again...," he frowned, wishing he just didn't know about her father in the first place. "I want her to stay happy... here at least..."

He smirked and chuckled a bit, partially because she'd nailed Kiah's personality, partially because the light touches to his neck were tickling him. "She probably smack me, if she was up to it after I told her... She's kind of a hypocrite like that." He frowned and sighed again, shaking his head in confusion. "The second she knows, she'll probably take all of the burden herself and disappear for days at a time..."

She pursed her lips as Kyle revealed more about what it was exactly he had to tell Kiah. From his words, she determined it must have something to do with her family. Had someone died? She knew because of their connection to the Order that what Kyle said was true: They wouldn't be going home again anyway. Or would they?

"What happens if we're still around when the war ends..? You'll go home then. And Kiah will have to find out then, whatever this secret is. If that's years from now, don't you think she would be more hurt later on? And she can try to take on the burden herself, but the fact is that you'll know the secret regardless. She won't have a choice but to share it with you, even if she tries to take it on all by herself," she replied gently.

"Kiah has her secrets, we can all see that. I think everyone here does...myself included. But despite that, she's become part of the family here, no matter what. And I think I speak for everyone else when I say that we'll all be here for her, to help her with whatever it is that may burden her. It doesn't matter if it's still a mystery to us, that doesn't stop us from caring or acting as a support system. That goes for you too, Kyle...," she looked at him earnestly and stroked his head softly.

"I think... she's already accepted the fact that she won't go home again, so what's the point of bringing something like that up?" he asked her, looking up at the ceiling as if the answers to his question could be found there. "Maybe it wouldn't hurt her so much to never find out..."

"You don't understand...," his eyes narrowed in frustration, more aimed at Kiah than anyone. "She doesn't let anyone know what's going on... She just... doesn't want anyone near her when she gets like... that..." Kyle was sure that everyone there was very supportive, but if she kept pushing them all away and locking herself up like last time, it wouldn't make much of a difference.

"Heh... Is that so?" he smiled in confusion at her motherly habits, not resisting the urge to ask about them. "Why... do you do that?" He indicated the continued motions of her hand, still stroking his hair.

"I'm trying to understand, sweetheart...it's just difficult to fully understand when I don't know what this big secret is-- what?" she stopped stroking his hair and pulled her hand away, "I'm sorry...it's just habit, I guess. I'll stop if you don't like it..."

She put her hand back in her lap and sighed a little, "I just want to help both you and Kiah. I know that everyone around here seems to find it so hard to accept help. Not many people around here really understand the concept of compassion," she said with a hint of sadness, "It's what I'm here for in the first place..."

Kyle was about ready to give in and tell Liv exactly what was going on, but his last effort to get her on a different subject seemed to work well. "No no, I don't mind it, it's just... That's something my mom used to do, I guess...," he grinned and shrugged, trying to not to pass it off as a big deal.

He listened to her talk, seriously thinking about getting her advice on the matter. "You're here to help everyone...?" He drummed his fingers across his cheek in thought, coming up with something that might help them both, even if it'll still be frustrating. "How about... we make a deal?" he stared at her with a grim face, "I'll... tell you what's happening... if you promise not to let her know, no matter what."

"Well I am sort of like the mother around here, that's...basically my job. Well, it's really the only thing I'm good at," she laughed a little and shook her head at how stupid that must sound.

She looked up to his eyes when he spoke about the real matter at hand again. She wasn't sure she liked the deal he offered, but as she had said earlier, whatever it was, it was probably something Kiah would only be able to hear from Kyle. She knew that if it was that serious, she wouldn't be able to tell Kiah anyway, not when she knew it should be someone else.

"I know that no matter what, it's not my job to tell her. We both know it's your job, Kyle. So...I promise, I won't tell her," she swallowed a little and braced herself for whatever secret was coming.

"I highly doubt that... but that's still something to be proud of, especially with all of the stubborn people around here," he copied her earlier actions and ruffled her hair, trying not to mess it up too much.

Kyle frowned at her, nodding and looking around the room suspiciously, like everyone in the castle was about to file in and hear their conversation. When he'd determined that there was no one in the vicinity he could see, he leaned a bit closer and spoke in a low voice. "Her dad... the last time I saw him, he was laid up in bed with an estimated two years left...," his face twisted into a pained expression.

"He's the most important person in the world to her... And if she ever found out that it's her fault he can't get treatment...," Kyle put a hand over his eyes, not elaborating further. It would be easier for Liv to understand if he could give her the full story, including the parts that Kiah refused to let him tell anyone. Since Kiah herself didn't know about this one, he wasn't feeling as guilty.
