She just about dropped the doll, eyes wide in suprise.
Then she smiled brightly. Excited. "I'd like that very much."

He gave one curt nod and then entered his room, holding the door open behind him. When she followed he swung the door shut behind them and stood there, not sure what to do then. There was very little in his room, especially anything that might entertain a young girl. He realized he didn't even know what a little girl liked to do in her free time. He crossed his arms and rapped his fingers, looking around.
"You can sit over there," he nodded his head towards a plain chair by the window.

Chaoe looked around the room curiously. It really wasn't that much different from her own fairly bleak room.
When he motioned for her to sit down she walked over to the chair and sat down, holding the doll on her lap.
She stared at him, wondering what would happen next.

Kanda fidgeted when she did as she was told and continued to stare at him. He became a little uncomfortable and turned to his dresser to start rummaging through the drawers. He found a scrap of paper and a ratty piece of charcoal, but it would have to do. He placed them on top of the dresser and turned to Chaoe again.
"You can draw or something if you want."

She made an uncertain face and looked down at her lap shyly. She hadn't drawn in...God, around four to five years.
She glanced at the paper and charcoal before getting up and picking them off the dresser. She sat down on the floor and brought the charcoal near the paper before stopping, unsure.
She didn't know what to draw, her cheeks puffed slightly in slight irritation at the paper and her own lack of imagination.

He watched her move to the floor before going to lay down on his bed. He reached towards the small table next to him, picking up a book. On the cover was a beautiful calligraphy lotus, and the book was titled to match the picture, 'The Lotus'. He opened the book somewhere in the middle where he had last left off and began reading. Every now and then he glanced at Chaoe over the top of the book.

She suddenly got it, her hands flew across the paper, drawing lines and shapes.
She drew a small house surrounded by fields and fields of flowers, then a river. Beyond the hills in the distance was a small town. She smiled warmly while she drew.

He continued to read and glance at her, wondering what she was drawing, but not thinking too much of it. The silence except for the scribble of the charcoal and the shuffling of the paper as Chaoe worked was oddly comforting.

She stopped quickly, she had drawn a man but held the charcoal over his face stifly. She swallowed hard and moved on to draw a woman next to him but once again stopped when she reached the face.
Her bangs covered her eyes, horror clutching her insides tightly.

When the scribbling stopped, the stark silence made him pause in his reading. He looked over the top of the book and stared at Chaoe.
"Kid?" he finally tried to get her attention.

She flinched slightly before looking up, she smiled although it was a bit pained.
