The Ghost of Xmas Awesome

PostPosted: Wed May 16, 2012 8:09 pm

Chakra was something of a representation of the final piece to the Fools journey. As above, so below. Heaven, and earth. Opposites were each other, and all things in the world, were as one. The self, the soul, the mind, and body, all these as one Yes...such a fascinating concept. Such a marvelous natural order. It was all such a marvelous subject.

The Chakra within his coils continued to surge to the surface, a small slightly luminescent light coming from his skin as he continued to focus it, his entire form now relaxed. It was...enlightening...comforting, even... yes... it was all very comforting, to be surrounded by his essence. It was one of the few times when he truly allowed himself to stop thinking too deeply...and be at peace.

The sifting flow of the chakra inside him...it was something like unto a tide washed in and out, flowing a river, shifting like a sea. It was probably why those particular sights were so comforting to him. They were familiar...as familiar as the nature of his very soul. He didn't really know for certain that he had a water affinity. He'd not tested for it, that was, but he didn't need such a thing to confirm such a thing. His very being was liquid, ever changing and ever shifting like the surface of the sea, like the universe itself was, he was all opposites, he was above and below, he was the darkness and the light...whatever was required. Whatever was necessary for him to have his way...and survive.

Survival. It too was a rather interesting drive in all life. The will to live, the will to endure. Even when all hope seemed lost some creatures would still cling to their existence and fight for it with their very last breath. But to what end? And for what cause?

It was a simple question really. Why was existence preferable to non-existence? All things which lived, even to the smallest form of a life, strove towards the former, at the expense of all. Why? Was it merely because things which strove for life had received it? And therefore been given the opportunity to grow and evolve? Was it the rather prototypical case of the squeaky wagon wheel got the grease? Could it really be that simple?

It was funny when one considered it like that, in such plain terms. He supposed that many of the lifes most complex questions might have such answers... perhaps sometimes the most profound answers...were the simplest.

The Chakra around him lit up as it seemed to sifting over the surface of his cross legged figure now, like the rippling surface of a large, the waves constantly in motion. The chakra itself seemed to be somewhat iridescent, it's interior filled with ever changing lines of refracted light that didn't seemed to be coming from anywhere in particular. It was not unlike the sunlight as it was refracted by water unto the bottom of a shallow pool. The Patterns dancing about swiftly in shimmering waltz as he himself continued to sit perfectly still. There were times when he was probably the most inquisitive individual in the entire Hidden Mist... but for now, he was merely a serene young man, wiling away the day as he focused the intensity of his chakra...

Tenshi walked into the grove. It was his first time visiting the place and it already seemed so peaceful. This would be his ideal place to train out of anywhere in the village. Though what he was here for, was to build up his strength. First he would work on power, then work on speed. A swordsman not only had to cut, but be swift, and not allow any moment for his enemy to attack. Seeing as it was a wooded area, fallen logs and trees were no doubt lying around on the ground. Someone would have to clean it up and Tenshi just volunteered for the job. He spotted one off in the distance and bent down to pick it up. He had it up to his chest when he started falling backwards. He dropped the log right on his foot. "Son of a-" He started hopping on one foot trying to check his foot.

He wiggled his toes around and pressed on a few of the bones. They were tender, but nothing seemed to be broken. His foot was already turning a bluish purple, no help to his extremely pale skin. He sighed as he lifted the log up again, being sure to have a good grip on it. This time he landed right on his back with the log pushing down on his chest, barely allowing him to breathe. His face began turning red with the effort to get it off, but the log was too heavy to push off.

With a final grunt and pushing with all his might, the log rolled off him into the grass. He laid in the grass, trying to gather his breath after an exhausting battle between him and a log. Once he felt his heart rate return to normal he turned on his side and pointed at the log, "You will be staying right there. I'll bring the other ones to you." He gave a sigh and plopped back down on the grass, "This is going to be a long day..."

After catching his breath, Tenshi stood up and limped over to another log. It looked to be smaller and so he assumed it to be lighter as well. He grabbed and and picked it up, and it fell from his grasp, onto his other foot. "For crying out loud...That's just my luck." He sat down on the log and looked at his newly hurt foot. It didn't hurt as bad as the other, since it didn't have far to drop, but it was enough to make it sore. "This will be the end of me... I can feel it."

Trying not to put too much weight on his feet, he lifted the log off the ground no more than an inch. He moved it over to the other log and set it down in the grass. He sat on top of the two logs, "Now listen here. I don't want you rolling anywhere, you got that? It took almost all I had to move you here, I don't need to go chasing you." He ran a hand through his hair to move it away from his face. On to the next one.

He stood up and looked around for any other loose pieces of wood. He found a small tree that appeared to have been blown in the wind and fell over. He shrugged his shoulders, Someone could use it for firewood I guess. He grabbed a hold of two thick branches and tugged it as hard as he could. It didn't budge. He gave it another tug, following shortly with another. He heard a snap as the tree broke completely apart from whatever remained in the ground. He positioned himself in the middle of the fallen tree and lifted it up, carrying it over to his pile.

With a tree and two logs now in his pile he went back to his search. He found a larger log that had seemed to begun rotting, and grabbed a hold of it. As he did, a bunch of bugs began scurrying across the bark and up his arm. He shivered and as quick as he could, placed the rotted log on the pile. He began trying to knock the bugs off his arms while making weird whimpers and groans. "Man I hate bugs..."

The Ghost of Xmas Awesome

PostPosted: Fri May 18, 2012 11:22 am

The sound of an insect scrambling across a leaf, the sound of mist settling across the drifting blades of mist. These were the domain of the Otobe. By there own philosophy, they were the greatest of things, and yet through their gift, they were tied to the smallest. As Byakuran sat there in peace, barely paying attention to the world around him...and yet taking in even the tiniest of sounds. He wasn't consciously piecing together what the sounds meant, even if someone were to speak to him, his mind wouldn't interpret the noise as words, yet he was, at the same time, completely aware of every vibration that disturbed his small clearing, his eyes now closed in such a blissful manner one might have thought he was asleep. He merely sat there, the chakra flowing within him visible in the same transparent way a ghost might have been, shimmering across the surface of his skin...

The sheer amount of a sound which eluded a normal person, the entire dimension of perception that they lacked when compared to an Otobe, or even a normal shinobi, it was almost inconceivable. That they could never reach this place...this state, that he was now achieving... He could perfectly understand his Clan's mindset. That all were inferior to the Otobe, and that those who were unskilled in chakra were even less then that. Shinobi, at least, were to be commanded and honored for their efforts, though they would never achieve the divine state of the Otobe, they were at least as near their equals as could be achieved by those outside the clan. Normal humans... they were nothing more then trash. Mere tools and livestock to be conducted and used as the Otobe saw fit.

That was, at least, the Clan's general doctrine...

Perhaps it was his upbringing here in Kiri... but Byakuran didn't actually agree with most of the clan's teachings, their view of themselves versus the rest of the world was merely one such matter. The idea that Otobe were somehow intrinsically superior was, when looked at from a logically standpoint, merely a matter of priority and opinion. "Perfection" and "superiority" were not absolutes that could just be assigned and calculated. The only criteria that the Clan was working with was that they had their second self, the ability to manipulate sound. That, as much as they would claim otherwise, was the only thing that set them apart as a clan, as a people.

So the question, Byakuran supposed, was if he thought that that qualified them, in his own mind, as superior. The answer, he had given some time ago when asked this question by his father before his death, was "No." Though their had been a stipulation to that, his clan hadn't been interested in hearing it. He'd had to go through the training program all over again...it hadn't mattered that he was merely 5 years old. But, he told himself with acceptance, that was the way of his family. They did not accept hesitation, they did not accept weakness. They considered themselves superior, yes, but there was, along with that, a powerful drive to prove it to the rest of the world, to make it true. They strove for excellence, and in so doing, achieved it in the end, not through birthright, but sheer force of faith.

"I am a soldier born to stand, in this way, and how I am."
It was the truth for those born to be Shinobi, the truth for those who were bred and birthed to be warriors. Born to stand, born to fight. Born to never falter, born to be more then was expected of the normal man. What then, was to be said of someone like him? A soldier not only of war, but of subterfuge and speech. One who was destined to deceive those around him and use them to his advantage...?

In truth, he didn't really so much mind lying... it was just another way to deal with situations. A tool, a weapon in his belt. Deception and misdirection were strategies, not questions of morality. In truth, he didn't really put much store in morality to begin with. Even so...

There was something there. Not guilt, no, but perhaps a small curious inquisition. Was there someone who would see through his lies...? Was there someone to whom he would be forced to be truthful? He wanted to meet such a person. To know them and why it was that they could see through his lies. It was matter of curiosity, and matter of "what if". Every time he put on social mask, he secretly hoped that it would be seem through...because it would mean that he had found such an interesting person at last...

His chakra continued to pulse within him, his mind now drawn in by the meditation as he lost himself to the deepest parts of his mind, his consciousness falling into his chakra's flow as he continued the meditation. It was an almost dreamlike state, his breathing slowed and his heartbeat steady...

Byakuran was standing at the edge of a cliff,a sack flung over his shoulder as he looked out at a vast and unknown world, his face completely neutral, yet with a strange hope burning in his eyes.

"You should be careful." said a rather logical voice.

Byakuran turned round, seeing, with only mild surprise, that it was a large black dog which was sitting just behind him, who had spoken, his voice rather methodical and knowing, as he stared up at the boy with large eyes the same color as his own.

"Should I...?" Byakuran inquired with an oblivious detachment, looking back out at the vast world that was stretched out before his feet.

"Yes," the dog insisted as it stood, standing at his side now as it followed his gaze. "One wrong step and you'll fall. You don't want that, do you...?"

"No..." the boy agreed looking intead towards a far safer path that seemed to lead down the cliff face, and likewise to the vast wide world he was admiring.

"Then let's go." the black dog seemed to indicate the path he'd been considering, and with a nod, he and dog began to head down it...and towards that wide world...

Byakuran and the dog had not been heading down the road for very long when they found themselves in an entirely different location. The road had remained, but now they were surrounded on either side by endless green fields, stretching off to an eternal horizon. Byakuran wondered at this, but the Dog didn't seem bothered, so he didn't say anything, merely continuing walking along, until at last they came upon a stretched out blanket by the side of the road, as though someone was preparing to have a picnic. A young man, a few years older then Byakuran himself, was sitting their with a wild mane of charcoal black hair the same color as his own, his eyes weathered and full of wisdom. Above him floated a radiance the likes of which Byakuran had never seen, to his left a strange feminine figure shrouded in mist, to his right, a rather unbothered crane, the birds feathers and black as midnight.

"Hello." Byakuran said, the dog beside him giving a small bow in turn, the wise looking youth giving a polite nod in turn. "My friend and I," he gestured to the dog, "have been traveling for some time, might I stop and rest a while to join you?"

"Certainly." the strange wise youth said with cordial gesture of his hand.

The strange wise youth poured the two tea, laying before them, with a mere snap of his fingers, a magnificent feast the likes of which neither he nor the dog had ever seen. They sat and ate, speaking with the strange youth for a long time, before at last Byakuran felt pressed to inquire. "Who are you?"

The dog, meanwhile, licking his lips, pressed still further. "How are able to do what you do? What path must we take so that we might do the same...?"

The wise youth merely gave a small smile at their questions, opening his hand to them with a slow precision. "I am the Magician... I can give you no path because I have walked all paths. I can not change your course for it is your path to walk all paths. The road you walk is long, yet is one I have walked, and one you shall too, in time. Where I now sit so shall you, and you now sit so once did I. Take these gifts I give to you...as they were given to me, and use them well." with another clap of his hands the magician opened the pack that Byakuran had been taking along with him, and pulled from it items of wonder and splendor. The sword of conviction, the eye of wisdom, and the compass of curiosity.

The Dog and Byakuran bid the Magician and his companions farewell, setting off back along the road, only to look back after only a moment, and find that they had disappeared. As they went along their way, the dog couldn't help but wonder if the items had been in Byakuran's pack all along...
