OK heres the long a** story about it all.

A long time ago (about 4 years) Dan ( Zachriedek) decided to teach me guitar. At the time i was a drummer and i thought it was going to be a hopeless task, but i decided to go along with it anyway.
He taught me a few easy songs such as bullet with butterfly wings by the smashing pumpkins and a couple of nirvana songs.
He then taught me how to read guitar tab. I used to visit www.tabcrawler.com and other places to learn songs because i wanted to be as good as him.
Everytime i went to visit him i would take a tab home and learn it as fast as i could, anyway after a few months of solid bedroom practise i was able to equal his abilities.
At this time i was getting into Metallica. I thought they were the best band EVER so i pushed myself to learn their songs. I was obsessed with playing enter sandman for about a week, then i thought a challenge would be to learn the whole of the Black album. The next time i saw Dan i was playing stuff he couldnt and it made me wanna play more. Everyday i would play to metal bands because they were actually TALENTED and then i eventually heard about Megadeth and Testament. Learnt their stuff then pushed on to amazing guitar players like Marty Friedman and Jason Becker.

I learnt scales and modes to play solo's and i actually had a guitar teacher in skool for 1 term but i quit in the end because he wasnt as good as me. No joke !

no dispute there, i agree metal bands actually have talent unlike most punk bands and such. but anyway from the sounds of it you learned most of the stuff you know from various tabs and such? but i dont know, so far ive been pretty much alot like you reading from tabs and such but i still dont know anything about scales and modes and i still cant shred(its like ******** impossable for me) how exactly did you learn about that? i dont really think tabs could teach you those sort of things, was it from that one class you took that you learned those sort of things or was it from dan? or did you find another way of learning those things?
