Yep, gonna be a teacher. Gonna live in my little cardboard box and teach choir, hopefully anyway. Still sending out resumes and stuff.

Well, I say find something you love, and do it. I love choir - I could never live without it. So, I have become a music teacher, so I can pass on that love to my students. ^^
If you find a career involving what you love, you will never work a day in your life. Teaching music is a very special profession. If you think you may want to do that, it can't hurt to start looking into it now. Talk to your orchestra teacher about why they do it. Teach a few private lessons yourself, if you feel up to it. Music is so rewarding - who doesn't love some kind of music?
Haha, sorry, I'll get off of my soapbox now. sweatdrop I just get very passionate.

I, sometime, want to learn all of the string instruments of the world... I'm working on that slowly... letsee... Violin-Bass, know a bit of Mandolin, Cello, Viola, I beleve Piano is classified as a string instrument... want to learn banjo, harp, guitar...

Great! Keep going - learning instruments is fun. heart
Technically speaking, pianos are keyboard instruments, though they can be classified as string instruments, since they use strings to produce sound. They can also technically be classified as percussion instruments, since there is a hammer inside that strikes the string to make the sound. So it's really kinda hard to classify them, really. sweatdrop Most people say they're keyboard instruments, though, since that's their unique quality. The family includes organs, harpsichords, clavichords, celestas, harmoniums, and accordions.
Er, sorry. Just smack me with a fish if I get annoying.

I'm not very good at reading those notes on sheet music, but I can play by ear, so that's helped me a bit with learning new instruments, and such. You show me the lowest note on sheetmusic, then the names of the strings and what they are on sheetmusic, and I can learn that instrument pretty quickly.... Thats how I sorta learned cello...

To be honest, I've never really played string instruments that much, just the teeny bit of playing you do in methods classes that teaches you how to hold it, how to play the easiest scale on the instrument, and other basic basics so you can start a kid out. I LOVE the cello, though, I've always thought it was a beautiful instrument. I wish I'd picked it up in 4th grade, but I was already taking piano lessons then. Oh well.

Yeah, besides Bass, Cello is one of my favorates...
I started out, actually, on Sopreno Recoder, then Violin, then in 7/8th grade (skipped a grade) began Bass... Picked up a few things on the other instruments I know from friends, or by playing by ear...

Yay recorder! Such a beautiful instrument if played well. (This is one of the reasons I don't think I could stand teaching elementary - little kids wailing on those things is not a pleasant sound.... xp )
I'm primarily a singer, but I can play piano decently well, too. Other instruments I can play (though not necessarily sound good on): organ heart , recorder, marimba/keyboard percussion heart , other nonpitched percussion, trombone. Instruments I can make a sound on: clarinet, saxophone, oboe, french horn, violin, viola, cello, double bass.
This is all from methods courses, of course. I've actually taken lessons in only piano, organ, and percussion. Everything else I've just kind of picked up a little, and can't really play without constant reference to fingering charts and so on. sweatdrop

The recorder family is awesome. If I get the chance I'd love to learn how to play those instruments properly. heart

Hey, Cobalt. Welcome to the Refuge! I see that you're already enjoying yourelf here.
Formalities over: Wow! Lot's of music talk. Hah, and I understand every word of it, too (my sister is an amazing singer, so I was always aroud music terms and theory). I love music. For me it is a passion. I love to sing, play handbells (if anyone else in the world knows what they are, I'd be forever happy), and compose techno. Yeah, I'm a techno junkie. *hides from the flaming wrath of Goosey and Cobalt*

This mug played trombone for a few years . . . but when they canned the decent band teacher, I left band. It was just a new boss trying to save money- so he let go several teachers that were good at their jobs so he could hire newbs for less money. stressed

Ah, you have to hate corporate downsizing and cheapening.
I'm dying to find somebody else who knows what they are. Do you know what handbells are?
