Mizaka continued to stare the ceiling.
"Where I come from, we had to go to a special school for training before we got assigned as Soul Officers. It usually takes a couple of years, then you graduate once your teachers have deemed you ready. I graduated a bit early than most folks." She let out a sigh before she rolled on her side and looked back at Chaoe. "I see what you're saying, but it's still a rough business. Our motto is Semper tuum custodiam usque, Always keep your guard up. That can be applied to the Black Order as well."

Chaoe blinked, a look of child-like awe on her face.
"S-semper tuu-m custodiam u.....usque.." She blinked.
"A motto? Like..a rule to follow?" She made a confused face, never had she heard such a strange word as 'motto' before.

Mizaka couldn't help but chuckle at Chaoe's attempt at repeating the motto.
"Latin isn't an easy language to learn. And yes, a motto is a rule we follow, so to speak. A guiding principle, really. Our job as Soul Officers is a dangerous one. You never know if someone you've just met is really a friend, or a foe in disguise."

The ten year old sat up and hugged her pillow close to her chest, leaning her head on it. "I see.."
She learned a new word today.
"Latin is..an old language right?"

"Oh, it's ancient," nodded Mizaka. "It's the origin of the English language. Nowadays you'll hardly find anyone speaking it on a regular basis. I know most of it, but that's because I need to know Latin if I want my Magic to work."

Her eyes widened, "Magic? Like a magician?" Eyes sparkling, she leaned in.
She remembered seeing a magician once when she had went to town with her father to restock their food supply, the man had made a flower appear from nowhere and had given it to her. She was suddenly very excited. "So, you can do magic?"

Mizaka couldn't help but roll her eyes a bit at Chaoe's magician comment. She knew fully well what type of magician she was referring to...
"Not really. It's nothing like those guys who pull rabbits out of their hats. Magic is more of a spiritual type of energy, in which you harness energy and use it for attack and defense. You can even use it to levitate people and objects. Watch." She turned to face Chaoe's stuffed animals and concentrated her gaze on them. Within seconds, a glowing blue light surrounded the toys and they slowly lifted off from the bed. "See?" The stuffed animals began to orbit above their heads. "Try to find a magician who can do that."

Chaoe's eyes widened and she smiled brightly, watching the stuffed animals fly.
"That's amazing Mizaka!" She clapped and started to laugh, for once like the ten year old she should be.

Mizaka smiled at how happy the younger child looked. The stuffed toys were carefully lowered back on the bed.
"One day I'll show you more of what I'm capable of. Right now..." She tried to stifle a yawn, but to no avail. "It's pretty late. I think it's time I've headed back to my room." She got up from the bed and stretched. Today had been a very tiring day, but the time she had spent with Chaoe made up for it. "I'm glad to have met you, Chaoe. We should see each other more often."
((Wrapping this up because it's 3:30 AM over here >_>; ))
