uh, hey. I just started an army and I'm wondering about XV25 stealthsuits. Can I equip my Shas'vre with both his standard Stealthsuit weapon and a weapon from the armory, such as a Plasma gun?
Also, what is the best configuration for a stealthsuit team?

Short answer: No.

Long Answer: Reread your unit entry for Stealth Suits. An XV25 suit has room for one support system. So no extra weapon can be mounted there. And a Team Leader or Shas'vre does not get access to the armory, he gets access to the battlesuit wargear list, so you don't get access to more weapons that way.

The only way you could stick a plasma rifle on a Stealth suit is if you were playing a 'Counts As' army, in which all your old XV15's were Stealths, and the newer XV25's counted as Crisis Suits. But then this would only be 'counts as', so you wouldn't be getting the advantage of the stealth field on the 25's.

AS for the best config on Stealths, I've played around a little, and I just run a full 6 man squad, no upgrades except for Team Leader and Bonding. Targetting Arrays are neat and all, but for the amount you spend on them, you could easily squeeze another Crisis Suit into your list. Fusion Blasters just dilute the anti-infantry purpose of the squad, and force you to take target locks so you're not wasting shots.

Ah, ok, thanks. I was just wondering, I must've read it wrong.
On that note, does anybody know a good tutorial for magnetizing weapons for Crisis suits?

You know, I haven't played in a while, but upon reading things in here and talking about them, I have memorized most of the rules about the Tau. NIFTY! xd

I think that is half the point of the thread.

I'm probably wrong, but its almost expected, seeing as how anybody can read this. After all, it is a thread discussing the Tau, and since there is a separate forum for painting and modeling, this would then be left to discuss rules.

Actually the main point behind the army threads is to discuss anything at all pertaining to said army. That can and often is model-related ideas. The Paint forum is sort of an "arbitrary idea" section, (re)commendations, and help.

oho.
So would I post my magnet question here or there?

Sure, as long as it's relevant to the army.

Ah, ok.

So then, with battlesuits. Its almost the same as with dreadnoughts, but obviously since i dont want to be stuck with one configuration for weapons, are there any good tutorials for magnetizing arms and weapons? (as in, inserting magnets)

I've done it. Ther's two ways to do it. The simple way, or the prettier, more complex way. Here's a quick and dirty tutorial. When I get around to buying some more magnets after Christmas, I'll come back and re-write it and add pictures.

Regardless of which way you choose, they start the same way: What you want are the smallest disk magnets from K&J Magnetics. They'll come in a long stack stuck together. Use a sharpie to mark the flat end of the stack with one color, and a different color sharpie to mark the other end. This'll help you keep the polarities straight. Every time you take a magnet off an end, mark the other side of it the appropriate color, and then re-mark then now shorter stack.

The simple method is thus: take a pare of magnets, and join them at thier edges. You should have a something like this: (N)(S) This pair of magnets will fit right into the slots on Crisis arms and shoulders. For the weapons, cut off the nubs that would normall fit into the slots, and glue another pair of magnets in place there, remembering to reverse the magnet order. If you have a pair of magnets that are (N)(S) in the hardpoint, the weapon's magnets should be (S)(N). This is a real simple method, but does leave your weapons sticking out from the suit abit.

For more advanced modelers, you can use a pin vice or dremel to drill out the Crisis arms and set the magnets deeper into the arms and shoulders, which will result in weapons and systems that sit in more flush to the suit, and are less prone to being knocked loose.

Some people will tell you to use only one magnet that's larger. That's doable, but I like the smaller magnets for thier weaker hold, and thier ability to fit two of opposite polarities in, to ensure weapons face the right direction.

oh, ok.

So, you're saying like...

if "[" is the side of the weapon, and "]" is the arm from the front, it should look like [(n)(s)]?
should I use 2 magnets on each side?

That's.... not quite what I was saying. Put a pair of disc magnets into the arm slots, so it should look like this picture:

In this picture the front magnet is one polarity (lets call it N for simplicity's sake), and the back is the opposite (S.) When you glue the magnets onto the weapons, you have to do the opposite; S in front, N in back.

hm, it is hard to discern what that picture is demonstarting, despite the quality. Ill wait to manufactre my commander until you post a tut with pics. THanks for the original one though ^^
