I've been playing clarinet for about three years. I play for marching and symphonic band. i love playing clarinet. i started out on oboe, but that turned to crap... long story short, the corks fell off.

That reminds me, I haven't greased my corks in a while. *shuffles off to find her cork grease*

Mock contest went well...the clinician was kinda strange (some guy from Arizona...I forgot his name, but it started with a W and it was German...) but kinda cool too, but he didn't really do much. He just made us work on blending our sound for the clinic hour and that was it. >_>

He got on Fearless Leader's case with our song selection, though...(Peacemaker and Fortress)

W: Are you going to add any songs?
FL: No.
W: Do you realize you're playing two marches?
FL: Yes.
W: Why?
FL: Because I like marches, this band needs to work on marches, and Fortress fits this band. stare (Today during band he added that he thought, "And you'll just have to deal with it. razz ")

yeah clinics don't consist of alot of playing but I still find them interesting [except for the one at cal state, I think I was too poofed out from the performance, but I successfully gave the fake look of paying attention smile ]

the clinic with teh trombonist from the boston symphony...we only played 20 measures of ticheli's simple gifts? He talked about music affecting lives and what the core of it really is and stuff...I was real interested [I'm a loser like that smile ] everyone had the fake interested look smile

at harvard we did a scale and tried to blend more, he said almost exactly the same things that the trombonist said except he started talking about colleges and stuff

so yeah o_O; its tiring @_@;;; we're having 3 clinics at chicago; two universities and teh CHICAGO SYMPHONY <333333

smile ;

Wow Miyoko! eek Such awesome clinics! I hope you'd do well! blaugh

Even though it's spring break here, the clarinet choir went over to my private lesson teacher's house to practice, and while we were getting ready, Kasey and I noticed that Jonathan was unsticking one of his pads with a $20 bill and we both said " stare Rich kid..." and he replied, "Whaaat? It was the first bill I came to razz " rofl We have a ton of fun teasing Jonathan about...well, everything about him. cool All in good fun, though. (his parents are the top contributors of money for our school district's band parent association... surprised )

yeah smile its pretty fun though if one tries to listen XD;

ahh :O wowie! O_O woah stupid rich kid, my friend kimmy [whose third chair] is uber rich -0-; she has jimmy choo shoes, gucci bags and etc etc etc....its depressing D:.

HEY! I KNOW A REALLY EFFICIENT WAY TO PRACTICE WHEN J00R SUPER BORED DURING CLASS OR CAN'T GET A HOLD OF YOUR INSTRUMENT!! my teacher read about it in an article, its REALLY helpful for sitereading smile I'm gonna tell my bd about it for our competiiton smile

ll. Practicing w/o picking the instrument up.
A. Picturing it in your mind.
1. This has been proven true by MYSELF, MY TEACHER, AND
AN ARTICLE
2. When I was asked by my teacher, "have you ever pictured yourself
playing the clarinet?" quickly my mind shifted to playing mozart's

clarinet concerto on stage infront of a JILLION people. But its not
that kind of playing, so don't like 'Picturing it in your mind' make you
fall over.
B. The steps
1. The steps to this is: picture, finger [in head], hear it. [Pfh...PFH!!!! biggrin ]
2. Step one: Lets take an arpeggio for example, [well, this did
come up during my time doing arpeggios], say Ab [that’s the one I was having problems with @_@;] now in your head, imagine you practicing [NOT AT SOME STAGE! JUST AT HOME![
5. Step three:imagine your fingers going through the arpeggios slowly, and as smoothly as possible [well if you can do it slowly, then at whatever tempo]

7. Step four: Hear it at whatever tempo you are going at, hear it with this in mine: In tune, in time, best tone, as smooth and connected as possible. [repeat ALL FOUR steps a couple of times.]
8. Step five: now if you have your instrument on your lap, get your instrument up and try it out to see if it works! ☺ I hope it does!
C. ways of practicing scales/arpeggios in your head
1. First off, now that you know how to do it, what if it just doesn’t come in smoothly?
2. To answer that, its like practicing scales, when they don’t sound smooth and are just impossible, you just add notes: Say first you play C D E [if you are confused, I’m talking about Bb concert], after imagining those notes being played you add on and keep on adding :] its useful BOTH ways [internal AND physical? Uh…forgot the word]

D. How it really helps you in the long run

1. As a musician and a student who is forced to study against her will, I honestly find it almost IMPOSSIBLE to practice. There has been so many times my teacher has felt very disappointed, this lesson I could feel it, he sighed and said in a slightly frustrated voice, “Don’t let your talent go to waste!!!!” [um hello, I’m not Kim, I have never had the natural talent—he has based this on how much I’ve improved/knows w/e—the truth of it is, I listen and take the suggestions given, that’s all] and so I find this a useful way when I’m resting from studying, or just too tired to pick up my instrument, or during class when I have a impending solo/new song/seating test at rehearsal [wind ens=in the morning, so I’m just saying stuff about rehearsal….after school] ☺.
2. For those who dream and chase after the hope of becoming a soloist [LIKE ME!], memorization= A MUST!! Sure repetition willl help, but my Mozart! Do we get nervous [don’t say that you don’t, you do]. Repetition relies on muscle memory. The first thing that shuts down in before a concert is our muscles, they FAIL us, what do they do!? FAIL US! [not all the time though] So, this is a GOOOOOD way to memorize those concertos ☺. Because its been engraved into your mind, it won’t fail you…of course I have yet to test this!!
3. So, sometimes there are times when we HAVE to look at the conductor, at this time, our eyes can’t be on the piece, it’d be easier to memorize that section, so what do you do? Use this method ☺
4. Warning: my teacher told me that even when he’s on the FREE-WAY ON HIS MOTORCYCLE he even imagines this, NOW THAT WORRIES ME! If I hear I’M the cause of YOUR death I’ll kill myself. DON’T DO THAT!!!! Unless you’re not driving….

I know, this is really long BUT IT HELPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ^_^

and btw choco I'm not too excited about trying out j00r R-13 after hearing buffet's and their overpriced stuff and flaws...though I still fancy buffets...but still. :0 omg

Jonathan isn't stupid! gonk He's just...Jonathan. sweatdrop And you'd never know he's rich; he always shows up anywhere in baggy jeans and an OU hoodie and a T-shirt of some kind...except at concerts when he wears a tux heart

Hmm...that sounds like a pretty useful method. I'll try it when I'm bored in class. 3nodding It'd be more profitable than my daydreams of (insert anime/manga/Final Fantasy character) wearing (insert random outfit) and trying to carry on in their normal roles. sweatdrop

O_O I DIDN'T SAY HE WAS!! [nor is my friend...every class she has is honor classes...the only honor classes I have is art crying ] rofl same for mine...unless it was a concert or a trip... rolleyes

yah :3 is useful! and XDDD! ah smile I feel so bad i haven't been keeping track of manga in a LONGG timeee

I've been watching korean/japanese dramas lately though :3

I'm a freshmen clarinetist in high school!
Proud member of the Judson Rocket Band!
I've been playing since the 5th grade and its my passion.

My clarinets 'unofficial' name is Eliza, but I'd rather give her a symbolic name like Luna, but cant find one that fits...

This year was my first marching show
We did Elvis Everywhere (a show written just for us biggrin )
yayness...
