I hate unsecured hours, it really ******** up your ability to plan for s**t.
Plus working without breaks ends up doing your head in. D: I worked full time @ Starbucks over the summer holidays and I went crazyyy. Especially when my days off kept getting pushed back.

AzurePaleSky hilaroma Phoenix Goliathane Hila: At least you're out of there soon. July's not that far away, right? But...yeah, I'd suggest leaving early and trying to return as early as possible. Do they threaten you? Or do they just mind their own business, really? July seems so far....although hopefully after May, I'll be so busy working that I won't run into those guys as much. They don't threaten me, but they sometimes make smalltalk which I try to politely respond to. Or sometimes it's lewd comments after I get far enough away. It really depends on the group that's there at the time. There's this one guy in particular that throws me threatening glances and stares at me until I've left/gone inside my place. He's such a creeper. gonk All of this shouldn't be enough to keep me inside, but I occasionally catch bits of conversations that sound like code for drug dealing, gang activity, etc. and it makes me feel sick and worried. Creeper guy borrowed one of the complex kid's sidewalk chalk last week and wrote "WELCOME TO MY GHETTO" in front of our walkway. Everything is just so ridiculously uncomfortable. I'd love to call the cops sometime when I'm sure they're getting high or whatever, but I'm afraid to do so because they'd know it was someone who lives close to them and I'm afraid of retaliation. sad Is it possible to sublease maybe? I've lived illegally and then left my apartment while I was still on the lease. I wouldn't want to be in that situation... home is where you should be able to relax, not stress about who you'll encounter. gonk I'm also considering sub-leasing and moving into my new place early (which is possible since the person renting there right now is paying, but totally living with her boyfriend). I'll see if I can get that to work out. If not...end of July. sweatdrop

Peppermint Elf Hila: Maybe it's time to invest in one of those keychain pepper sprayers. Just stick it on your keys and unsnap it with your finger on the trigger as you walk past. At the very least, it will give you some peace of mind that you can spray and run like hell for help should the need arise.
I'd probably look into community centers that give free/low cost self-defense courses. (I took self-defense for a gym credit in college. I think it was based on a type of kenpo. It was fun and useful.) I've got one, but never got around to putting it on my key ring. I'm kind of afraid I'll accidentally push it and gas myself since it's kind of easy to activate (the push down and slide forward type) and I'm really prone to accidents... gonk Dr. Fomite TweedleKeys hilaroma Ok, trying to leave now. I hope it works out.... sweatdrop Edit: They're still out there. I think I'm gonna cry. crying Whenever I get worried about stuff like that, I always whip out my cell phone and pretend I'm talking to someone (or actually call someone.) That way, people don't try to talk to me and they know I have someone I can scream for help to. This is a good suggestion. I do that, too. heart
I'm in the better area of town, but in a city that's pretty much known throughout the region for its gangs, violence and high crime rate. Since I have to do a lot of walking at night to get to the clinic for emergencies or after-hours checks on patients, I carry pepper spray and keep my cell close at hand. My mum actively encourages me to call her when ever I go out after dark I'm usually not very skittish, but it really helps when I do have call to get nervous. hila should try it, it might help. heart X3 Using or faking using the phone just went on my new list of things to do to avoid contact with the creeps around here. I'm also going to look in to self-defense classes. I know our womens' center at least used to offer decently priced ones. If not, I'm sure they'll know a reputable place where I can get signed up. I could use some peace of mind right about now... crying

Now I'm eating brussel sprouts. WTF. Seriously. Why not just watch your DVD?! gonk .... Or let me borrow it.

Ashram McDuck Streamjumper Ashram McDuck So ... haven't told a lot of people this ... but I'm in the midst of making a decision concerning where I'm going with life after my current contract ends. After looking over the course of the last few years of my life, I am faced with many options, many directions to go ... but the three that stand at the top are as follows: 1. A position in publishing &/or editting 2. Professorship 3. A position in animation/comic distribution &/or critiquing/reviewing Currently, I am in the middle of writing a Cover Letter that I plan on sending to various companies. If I can get my hands on the names of the presidents/vice presidents of various companies, I plan on sending, snail-mail style, my credentials. The tricky part is wording myself in a way to show most of these companies that, while they don't have any positions available for me to see, that is not going to detour me. So when is your contract up? Beginning of July. 3nodding No more Nipponz? sad

Ashram McDuck Depends entirely on where I'll be arriving, I would imagine. But there are two words that should be noted in regards to my current location: 1. Kobe 2. Beef Now these two words, when placed together and put in the context of steak, are akin to a term I've always liked - ambrosia. Jealous! gonk
