In those long few seconds, Sil tried to think of her options and there weren’t many of them that didn’t leave Kiah alone. Until they were out of the alley, until Kiah was safe there was very little Sil could do as far as getting retribution. She was counting down the impossibly long, unending seconds to where Kiah would be safe and she could jump on a roof and kick the living daylights out of the bastards who thought to pull guns on them in the first place, but unfortunately the moment never came. Just as she had been rounding the corner with the young woman right on her heels, she heard Kiah’s startled cry and the sound of a body hitting the floor.
“Kiah!?” Sil shouted, and as she rounded the corner she skidded to a stop, her eyes widening in horror as they tracked the blood trail. Deep, frigid horror hit her like a slap to the face and despite the utter stupidity of her actions she ran to Kiah’s side. She didn’t have time to check the girl over thoroughly; all she knew is that Kiah was hurt and she had to get her out of the line of fire. She couldn’t even tell if she was breathing still, and the thought that she could be bringing back a body to the Order after a night of fun made her want to expel the contents of her stomach.
“I’m sorry Kiah, hang on,” Sil said softly, her voice coming out in a soft pant as adrenaline coursed through her body like a river. Her arms eased under the girl and she tucked Kiah against her as tightly against her as she could. As she straightened , she heard the expulsion of a bullet and the hot burning sensation of it barely nicking the skin between her neck and shoulder. The young woman didn’t even have enough time to contemplate how damn lucky she had been that it had barely missed a lethal spot before she was sprinting back around the corner and down the street, weaving haphazardly through the alleyway with her fallen comrade in her arms to make sure their attackers were lost in the process.
Sil wasn’t sure she had ever run that fast before, numb to everything around her other than the unyielding need for her to get Kiah to the infirmary as fast as physically possible. She was completely oblivious to the slow warmth seeping through her jacket as Kiah’s blood stained the red fabric or the cold of the night air stinging against her cheeks and her eyes that were watering without her even knowing it. One moment she and the girl had started to really get to know each other, break down the confines of acquaintanceship past the line of friendship, then something like this happened. “I swear to God Kiah, if you die… if you die… I’ll…”
She couldn't even finish the sentence-- Kiah couldn't die. She just couldn't. As she violently kicked open the front door of the castle she repeated that to herself in her head like a mantra. People like Kiah weren't supposed to get hurt, good people who didn't put themselves in the line of danger... How could this have happened?
((THERE KIAH. <3))
