Kiah downed the rest of her drink, not really feeling any less in control than she had before, and turned back to Sil. "Well, from what I've heard, you don't really need to study if you have the knowledge. I just wanted to be prepared, so my father managed to come up with enough money to get me into college, and supported me all the way." She smiled softly at the thought of her father before finishing; "I'm in a pretty high position compared to others, so I can't really complain. As long as I'm helping in any way I can, I'm happy."
She wondered what exactly happened to the young woman's mother, but decided not to ask since this was supposed to be a fun trip. Instead, she commented on the last part of her sentence, knowing that she'd been a scientist before gaining her Innocence. "So they taught you how to be a scientist, huh? Were they as crazy then as they are now?"

"Almost unfortunately, yes," she laughed at the question, thinking back to when she had first become really involved with the other individuals that inhabited the Order at the time. It hadn't been hard to come out of her shell thanks to the impossible and mostly unorthodox friendliness of most of the staff, who welcomed individuals like family. "I think being mentally unstable is actually a requirement for the job, because if you're not already nuts for agreeing to work there, you have to be insane to put up with everyone else who works there for so long. Also, there was more than one occasion where sleep deprivation and heavy doses of caffeine led to some... interesting results."
There was a slight pang of jealousy that Sil felt at Kiah having the opportunity to attend college. Though she had been brought up in a rather wealthy family and her father had allowed her fine tutors who taught her extensively, she knew exactly how her life would have played out if it had stayed on course. Married at eighteen, a wife and mother; as a woman in her family and in many families it was out of the question to send them off to higher learning. Now Sil couldn't even imagine what that other life could have been like-- it was destiny for her to follow the path she was following.
"Hey, how about I give you a good solid lesson in how people make money in Daly City, California?" Sil hopped up and wrapped an arm around Kiah's shoulders. "Act nice and drunk now," one brown eye winked at her and she put a slight waver in her voice as if she couldn't keep anything steady. With a spastic wave she hailed some of the rougher looking men at the poker tables with a friendly smile on her face. "Howdy boys! My friend says she's never played poker before and I'm just dreadful at it... you can teach her, right...? Money? Oh yeah... we have a little bit!"

Kiah smiled at the explanation of the scientists, figuring that they'd always been nuts but wanting to know for sure. "I'm sure it was a lot of fun, though..." She was curious about the 'interesting results' that Sil had mentioned, but was quickly cut off when she was dragged off to the gambling table.
She looked at the men they'd be playing like a deer caught in the headlights, averting her attention to the cards being put in front of her. "Uh... I... Um... Do I pick them up, or leave them face down?" she whispered to Sil, not wanting the others to hear her. Though I suppose she'd want them to hear that so she can take them down, or whatever happens in this game... "Uhh... Is this a specific type of poker?"
