 West jumped out to a 1-0 lead as Blue Jackets' Rick Nash (61) scored 12 seconds after puck was dropped. He finished with 3 goals.

Mark Messier & New York Rangers  While Messier's 1st stint with Rangers (1991-97) included a long-awaited Stanley Cup in 1994, it ended badly as then MSG president Dave Checketts explained team's reluctance to extend agin' Messier's contract by sayin', "How long should we pay for that cup?" Messier spent next 3 seasons with Vancouver Canucks, only to then rejoin Rangers with a 2-year deal at age 39. Durin' his introductory news conference in July 2000, Messier n' Checketts symbolically buried hatchet.

Phil Jackson & Kobe Bryant  In The Last Season, his book about 2003-04 Lakers, who lost in championship round before Jackson stepped down as coach, Zen Master labeled Kobe "uncoachable" n' described star guard as a "callous gun for hire." A year later, Jackson was back guidin' Kobe-led Lakers, n' he recently signed a 2-year contract extension reportedly worth $24 million.

Billy Martin & George Steinbrenner  At some point, it stopped bein' surprisin'. All told, Steinbrenner hired Martin 5 times to manage Yankees. Durin' his 3rd stint as skipper, Martin said, "All I know is, I pass people on the street these days and they don't know whether to say hello or goodbye."

But Mets brought him back in '99 via trade with Dodgers, a 2nd tenure marked by Bonilla's reported clubhouse card-playin' incident with Rickey Henderson while Mets were losin' a decisive Game 6 of NLCS against Atlanta. In partin' ways in 2000, Bonilla agreed to a buyout in which Mets would pay his salary in deferred payments--$1.193 million each July 1 from 2011 to 2035, for a total of $29.8 million.
