Miharu watched the Water-type carefully, a little surprised that he already seemed to know how to battle. She glanced back in the direction of Nuvema Town, realizing that she shouldn't be - Professor Juniper and her aides had likely spent a significant amount of time training with the young Pokemon so that the new trainers just starting their journey would have some level of protection. "Now you use Tackle, Emile," she called. She could feel the familiar rush of adrenaline starting to flow though her veins but she did her best to pretend like it wasn't happening. That, however, was becoming increasingly difficult as she watched the Oshawott throw himself somewhat awkwardly at the Patrat. Okay, so perhaps Emile wasn't yet that good at battling, but that would likely change as he grew older and gained experience.

Again, guilt over receiving a Pokemon she wasn't sure she even wanted to raise began to jab at her stomach as the two Pokemon picked themselves up off the ground. She wasn't sure, but she thought she saw them chattering to one another before the Patrat lunged forward and chomped down on Emile's forearm with its sharp little teeth. The little otter cried out and flailed around with his free limbs, bashing the Normal-type in the face several times with his free arm and scalchop until it let go. Miharu had difficulty not smiling at how ridiculous the pair looked, and though she knew it was good for her Pokemon to get some practice battling in, the sun was starting to make its journey behind the horizon, and the girl did not want to be caught outside after dark in a strange, new region. "Okay Emile, use Water Gun," she said firmly, securing her bag over her shoulder. As soon as this battle was over, she would be heading back to Nuvema Town as fast as could. If she chose to go exploring tomorrow, she'd be sure to bring her bike this time, as she'd left the folding contraption at the Professor's.

The Oshawott's cheeks bulged and he looked quite determined as he unleashed a strong stream of water at his opponent, and all the Patrat uttered a surprised shriek as it was introduced to a cold shower. It staggered back, soaking wet and dripping water, and for the first time since meeting this troublesome Oshawott, looked genuinely angry. It ran forward, intent on hitting Emile with another Tackle. Still oblivious to the fact that her Pokemon had set up this fight, Miharu watched the Normal-type carefully. She'd opened her mouth to give a command, but Emile, sensing a change in the Patrat's attitude, had already planned a counterattack. He raised his scalchop, eyes narrowed, and the little shell took on a sinister glow before it sprouted a blade made out of dark energy. He darted forward and slashed at the Normal-type with this blade, and a few seconds afterward, the scalchop returned to normal. "Osha, Oshawott," the Water-type declared as his opponent fell to the ground in a heap.

Feeling as though he'd said enough to get rid of yet another irritating ghost, Damien stepped outside of the Pokemon Center, blinking as his eyes took their sweet time adjusting to the bright sunlight. He'd been glancing around, silently pondering his next move when he heard that same, annoying voice in his ear again. "She's not here, believe me, I've looked."

"Who's not here?" Damien asked plaintively. He already knew how Eli was going to answer, but it was easier to pretend otherwise.

"As if you don't know," Eli snorted, now walking alongside Damien as though they were best pals. "Don't think I don't know what you're up to."

"Didn't I tell you to go away?"

"No, you said you didn't care what I wanted."

"It's the same thing."

"Not really. Geez, you are one Krabby kid. Penny wasn't kidding when she said you were a bit of a grump," Eli sighed, shaking his head in mock surprise.

Damien rolled his eyes and pushed his glasses back up as they'd slipped a bit. "Yes, well, you'd be grumpy too if you were being pestered by ghosts all day and night. Not even my dreams are sacred anymore." He paused as a few people nearby were looking at him strangely, and he quickly raised his hand to his ear to pretend like he was adjusting an earpiece for a phone. "Wait... you know my grandmother? She sent you? Why?"

"Oh, what's this? Looks like you care now," Eli chuckled, his smug grin only helping to aggravate Damien even further. "Looks like the chairs have turned, my grumpy little friend."

"Tables. It's tables that have turned, not chairs," Damien said dully, placing a hand on his stomach as it was growling loudly. "And I am not your friend."

"Tables, chairs, whatever. You living and your silly idioms," Eli said dismissively, waving his hands and blatantly ignoring Damien's second statement.

"You didn't answer my questions," Damien insisted.

"You didn't answer mine."

Damien stared at the ghost. "But you didn't-" but Eli just grinned at him, and nodded over his shoulder. Feeling as though he'd regret it, Damien turned and followed the annoying ghost's gaze. For a moment, he didn't even realize who he was looking at, as she was hardly recognizable with such a drastic change in, well, everything. "...Karrigan?" he asked, his tone sounding both surprised and perhaps even a little happy.

Eli chuckled, and elbowed Damien in the ribs - well, he would have, had he not been incorporeal and instead, his limb disappeared into the dark-haired boy's ribs, causing Damien to gasp and shiver from the strange, cold feeling. "In the flesh," he chuckled. "Looks like she didn't run out on you, after all."

"Oh, Lottie," Juliet sighed, shaking her head slightly. "It's all right, these things happen, don't be-" But she stopped as she saw the Riolu didn't look ashamed or upset over frightening away their quarry; instead she was grinning rather impishly. Juliet raised an eyebrow, but said nothing else. It was just as well – she recalled Brett mentioning that he had a Patrat on his roster and again the blonde Trainer did not want to copy her friends if it could be helped. Besides that, she didn't really feel anything special while she watched the Patrat gathering food anyway, so she let Lottie's little 'accident' slide for now.

Okay, Patrat is out, Juliet thought as she continued biking forward, but she kept her pace slow as she didn't want to get too close to the daycare center again. There's always Lillipup, and I've always admired Brendan's Stoutland, but still. She came to a stop, watching the Riolu sitting carefully on her handlebars. Lottie was a Fighting-type and as much as she'd love to raise a Gurdurr or a Throh or even a Scraggy or Scrafty, she didn't want to double-up on types just yet. "Maybe we should head back to Pinwheel Forest," she mused aloud. "And look for Bugs and Grass-types."

Charlotte gave a weak shrug in reply, still not all that anxious to be seeking new teammates just yet. This, Juliet noticed, but again, she chose not to say anything. It seems like Lottie's not all that excited about adding new members to our team, she thought, frowning a bit. I wonder why that is?

Juliet wouldn't get a chance to dwell on it much longer as she rounded a bend and found herself face-to-face with a younger boy wearing jean cut-off shorts, a dirty red tee-shirt and even dirtier sneakers. He grinned and wiped his face with the back of his hand while holding up a Poké Ball with the other. "I challenge you to a battle!" he shouted.

Juliet exchanged a glance with her Riolu, and both smiled. "All right. We accept," she said simply.

"Nice to meet you, Tessa! I'm Kasiya!" the blonde girl said brightly, looking on as her purple-haired opponent released her first Pokemon: a Pidgey. Wow, haven't battled one of those in a long time, Kasiya thought, smiling a bit as she glanced to the Minccino clinging to her shoulder. "Up for another go?" she asked. Pepper's eyes went wide and she shook her head before attempting to bury herself in her trainer's neck. "Okay, I'll take that as a 'no'." Still smiling, and deciding to keep with her original plan of saving Alphonse for the upcoming battle with Falkner as her fingers danced between Nova's and Zaira's Pokeballs. Zaira needed the experience a little more than Nova did, but using either Pokemon would likely be a little bit of overkill against a little Pidgey. She considered giving Wednesday a go, but unfortunately, most of the Duskull's moves were Ghost-types ones and would be ineffective against the Normal-type.

"Okay Zaira, you're up," Kasiya called finally, flicking her wrist and sending the Luxio's Pokeball spinning onto the platform. As usual, the Spark Pokemon was full of energy and raring to go, and Kasiya couldn't help but notice the flashes of electricity flaring up in her paws. That's interesting, she thought, looking up as the Pidgey made a nervous shuffle, no doubt the result of Zaira's Intimidate ability kicking in. Tessa had also decided to make the first move, and now her Pidgey was streaking through the air with what looked to be a Quick Attack. "Brace yourself, and fight back with a Bite!" Kasiya called excitedly to her Luxio, the thought of facing the gym leader causing her to nearly hop up and down on the spot.

The Electric-type crouched down, her ears twitching as she tried to track the Pidgey's swift movements. It was much quicker than she thought, however, as before the Luxio could react, it had swooped in, landed its attack and retreated before Zaira could even blink. Tessa smirked. "Hah! Too slow for us!" she called. "Again, Pidgey! Blindside them with your Quick Attack!"

Kasiya's excitement ebbed a little and she frowned, watching the speedy bird streak through the air. "It's okay," she said, giving a quick nod. "Minor setback. You got this, Zaira! Bite it when it hits you!" The Minccino still perched on her shoulder gave a rousing cheer. Once again the Luxio prepared herself, already baring her teeth as she waited for the Pidgey to get close. However, the same thing happened - the Pidgey was just too quick for Zaira to get hold of, zipping in, striking and fleeing all in a matter of split-seconds.

"Now, Bibarel! Hyper Fang!" Jaeshan called, deciding to take the initiative and strike while the proverbial iron was hot. The Beaver Pokemon didn't need to be told a second time and she charged across the lush battlefield once again, her powerful front teeth already starting to glow in preparation to deliver the devastating bite. The Cherubi cried out weakly, tumbling to the ground as Bibarel's attack proved to be too much for it. From behind him, Lisa cheered loudly and Jaeshan turned and gave her a thumbs-up, though they still had to get past Georgia's last Pokemon if they wanted to get to Gardenia.

"Wowie, Tall-guy, your Bibarel sure packs a punch," the ginger-haired girl said, shaking her head as she recalled her tiny Pokemon. "And Ice Beam, totally should've seen that comin' from a Water-type!" She switched Pokeballs and grinned over at the pair. "My last Pokemon packs a bit of a punch too!" she said, her grin growing wider and wider. "Betcha can't keep up with this'a one!" She sent it spiraling onto the battlefield and Jaeshan was only just able to make out the camouflage print on the ball before it rebounded back to Georgia's hand upon releasing its captive. A slender, leafy Pokemon with a large head and large fangs to match had been sent out, and Georgia continued to smirk as the blond boy fidgeted for his PokeDex.

"Carnivine, the Bug Catcher Pokemon," Jaeshan read to himself, feeling a strange jolt in his head at the words 'Bug Catcher' as they sounded very familiar to him somehow. "It binds itself to trees in marshes where it lies in wait. It attracts prey with its sweet- smelling drool and gulps them down." He shivered as he put the device away, studying the new Grass-type carefully. "Okay. Creepy. Bibarel, you still in this?" The Normal/Water-type looked over her shoulder and loudly thumped her tail on the ground. Oh, she was still in this, all right! Just let her at that big creep!

"Carnivine, get 'im with your Vine Whip!" Georgia called, her voice wavering slightly. She did not want to have both of her Pokemon fall to a type they should have had the advantage over. Carnivine hovered a few feet from the ground, grinning at Bibarel from behind its large, sharp fangs. It quickly lashed out with its 'arms', both extending and taking on a slight glow as they cut through the air toward the Beaver Pokemon.

Okay, so maybe this outfit wasn't such a good idea after all, Karrigan thought nervously to herself as she continued to walk along the sidewalk, wishing she was oblivious to all the looks and attention that had suddenly started coming her way. Of course, most of this attention was courtesy of mostly nearby teenage boys (and a few girls here and there, as well), and it had not yet dawned upon the redhead that she was actually quite pretty and bound to turn a few heads, especially with her new look. Regardless, Karrigan found it difficult to concentrate and all but ran to the safety of a less-crowded street. By now, her stomach was continually reminding her of her missed meal and she'd since given up looking for Damien and instead had settled on finding a place to have a late breakfast, or brunch, at the very least.

She wasn't far from the Pokemon Center now and though she was starting to become a little sick of the food there, her hunger was winning out over fussiness and she began to head toward it, though she didn't take too many steps before she spotted a familiar, broody figure with dark hair and perfectly polished glasses - it was Damien. He also seemed to be talking to someone, which by now wasn't strange at all, at least to Karrigan, and her curiosity got the better of her as she approached him (them?). Whoever/whatever he was talking to must have alerted him to her presence as he turned to face her just as she reached them. The tone of his voice as he said her name was definitely surprising - if she didn't know any better, she'd almost say he was actually happy to see her - but then again, Karrigan wasn't sure if Damien was capable of showing anything but apathy.

"Yep, it's me," she said, blinking as he made an odd gasping sound and she scratched at her bandaged hand, looking around almost expectantly. Of course, she could not see Damien's new "friend" but that didn't make her stop trying. "I went and got some new clothes, because my other ones were looking a little bit old and torn up," she explained, trying futilely to tug down her skirt while wishing she'd chosen something a little longer. "Do you like it? Um, never mind, you don't have to answer that. Is someone here with you? It looked like you were talking to someone... oh wait, you don't have to answer that either. I'm sorry, I shouldn't be so nosy." She sighed and closed her eyes, not entirely sure why she felt so nervous - perhaps it was because she felt as though she was being watched. She opened her eyes, giving her usual, small smile. "I was just on my way to get something at the Pokemon Center to get something for breakfast. You could come with me, that is, if you haven't eaten already. Or, if you don't want to, that's okay, too."

"Oh yeah, I totally get it." Mike said. He too understood the importance of motifs. "Remind me to call mom and ask her to make me another jacket." A nearby phantom nodded, jotting it down in an ethereal notepad.

Brock once again improvised with his Pokemon's moves, and Mike smiled. "I'm sure you've got about ten ways to counter a Water Gun with that Onix." he chuckled. "Gotta learn your-" he took a step back to avoid a few drops of water that bounced off one of the rocks. "-weaknesses after all!" He threw his hands in the air in celebration of his masterful dodge, and was then rewarded by a nice layer of dust when the Onix's rocks smashed against the ground and Omanyte before him. He coughed out some dust, then shook himself off.

What's next? Another Water Gun? a ghost shrugged.
"I dunno. I'm not really sure." Mike said, pursing his lips.
Seems a bit dull if you ask me. another added.
"He'll just block it, and it'll take forever to whittle him dow-"
I don't see why you just don't Surf and be done with it. the bored phantom continued. Just grab your badge and move on.
"Because that's-that's mean right? Walking into someone's gym and just mopping the floor with them. That's disrespectful, isn't i-?"
It's their job. it retorted.
Well, I mean, it is kinda rude. You don't even technically need this badge. the bored ghost turned.
Yeah but he can't use his weaker Pokemon in his bigger fights. They have to learn somehow.
"Yeah, that's tru-"
But that's what other trainers are for! the more compassionate phantom contested.
Gym leaders are trainers, too! a third ghost remarked. More began to pipe up. It was starting to get really loud. Mike felt a twinge in his brow.
"Ow, ow." he clutched his head. "Can we keep it down, please?"
Trainers who have other people to worry about. Actual challengers to test, not just to entertain someone because they're bored!
He's raising his Omanyte and Kecleon!
"If...everyone could just...quiet down...my head..." Mike's chest tightened. It was getting harder to breath. He looked up at Brock and tried to wave it off like it was nothing. "Sorry...just...give me a second." Camerae turned around and looked at its trainer, who was now breathing heavily. His scars started to glow.
I think he's doing the right thing!
I think it's a waste of time!

"Please just...shut..."
How is he going to learn otherwis-

"I SAID SHUT UP!" Mike screamed, a burst of flames ejecting from his mouth before he stumbled and fell to his knees. Camerae turned to make his way over. "I'm fine. I'm FINE!" he snapped, springing to his feet. "I'm fine. I'm sorry. No problem. Just having a bit of a moment, is all." He took in a deep breath and exhaled. "We're good. We're good, right?" he glared at the phantoms, who all sunk into the floor. "Thank you." he turned to Brock. "I'm sorry. Sometimes they get a bit loud and I just kinda...explode a bit. Sometimes you just gotta blow up every once and a while, ya know?" He cracked his neck. "It's just no fun holding back? Limiting yourself? I bet right now you're wishing you had your strongest Pokemon to just throw at me, so we can just butt heads with our wonderful Pokemon. Make a mess! Rip open the ground! Really break stuff!" He sighed. "Which I why I know you'll understand that I have to end this now. Please don't be upset with me. Could you Surf attack please, Camerae? I'm sorry for shouting at you."

After a moment's hesitation, the little fossil complied, and wriggled his little tentacles, calling forth a wave of water that raced down the arena. He hoped this ended things. He was starting to shake, feeling eyes staring down at him for making a scene.

Dante flopped over to wherever it was in the cell that Keegan pushed him. The sudden movement left him feeling a little dizzy and brought up the wonderful feeling of wanting to just throw up over everything. Instead he just kept his mouth shut and let the cold concrete of the floor sooth his pain while Keegan freaked out over… something Dante wasn’t paying too much attention to the words. Resting his aching head on the icy cell floor he let out a moan of pain as Keegan seemed to be practically screaming about something. Questions were being asked and he honestly didn’t care about them. Normally he would offer some sort of either sassy comment or maybe in some sort of way make an attempt at helping the other boy but he had already used up every ounce of caring he was allotted for the day.

Instead Dante just laid there curled up on the floor while the other teen freaked out for a bit. He would probably be content on just laying there until his mom came and picked him up. If Dante had any worries about getting in trouble they weren’t too much. The worst he would get was a lecture from his mom to not get caught next time and that she was busy and he was an adult now and blah blah blah. Really the number one rule growing up was; if you are going to be doing something you shouldn’t be doing then don’t get caught, because mommy does not have the time to bail you out of everything. Having never met Keegans parents, or been around parents who actually, you know parent. Dante didn’t really have any clue that the redhead’s parents yelling at the other might make him just want to put a Remoraid against his head to end the pain. So he wasn’t really worried all that much. As he continued to stew in his own misery a question he had asked earlier and one that Keegan had poised to him just a moment earlier continued to bug him bouncing around in his head like a Spoink on an energy drink.

As his alcohol infused brain stewed in its own marinade a sudden sort of flashback came to him. Dread filled his entire being and Dante hoped that he was just still drunk. Sitting up black eyes blinked blearily at his surroundings before unsteadily focusing on his cell mate. “Keegan. Let me see your a**.” He paused for a second as the thought went through his head for a second before he buried his head in his hands. “Gah, that didn’t sound right. I think we made a horrible, soul crushing, deadly, I want to kill myself mistake. Since I can’t look at my own a** and there are no mirrors here let me see yours.” He practically sobbed out. Dante would put up with every gay joke Keegan tossed his way for asking to see his a** if he was wrong. The burning itchy feeling on his own though was proof that was yet to be proved that he was wrong though.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Croconaw let out a grunt as the angry monkey pounced on him claws raking across his scale armor and digging in deep to the flesh below it. Lifting his arms up the water type did his best to defend himself from the assault but that was proving difficult as the Monferno turned out to be able to use his feet as well as his hands to set his claws to work. Finally it seemed like something snapped inside of Black*Star and before he knew what he was doing he opened his jaw and let out a powerful stream of water blasting the Monferno back with a point blank Water Gun. Seeing Ace fly back and land hard on the muddy ground made a toothy grin to appear on the Croconaws face. It seemed like he could attack again, well it was time to go on the offensive.
Picking himself up in a quick twist his flame tail lashing angrily at the muddy ground sending a small curtain of steam up Ace sent a glare at the Croconaw. Bright blue eyes watched as the gators sharp claws flexed and the water type came charging at him, the speed was surprising, with the boost and Ace’s own body feeling sluggish there was no way he could dodge it like he normally did. No this he would have to face head on. Digging his claws into the ground Ace waited for the right moment as Black*Star got closer his jaw opening and was about to take a large bite of Ace’s side. That was when the Monferno’s fist lashed out smashing into the Croconaws jaw in a powerful Mach Punch. Jumping away a smug look on his face Ace watched the water type real to the side clutching his jaw in pain.
Black*Star rubbed at his jaw and glared ruby red eyes at the smug looking Monferno. Well it seemed like the little monkey had some surprises left in him. Still it would take a lot more to get him to go down, not that he would lose this battle. Not waiting a moment longer Black*Star charged again ready to wipe the smirk off of that insufferable Monfernos face. This time proved to be no different though, Ace smashed his fist into Black*Stars jaw once again sending the Croconaw into the mud once more while Ace danced further away. Picking himself up again Black*Star winced as he rubbed his face, his body shook from anger and irritation, it seemed like though he could attack now he still couldn't really do anything. It was frustrating that he couldn't seem to land another hit. Red eyes studied the other Pokémon taking in the heavy breathing and the fact that his earlier Water Gun had done a lot more damage then he first realized. It seemed like the Monferno was on his last legs just avoiding what he could and not going on the offensive anymore. Smirking the Croconaw had figured out what to do, after all even with his defense he couldn't keep taking anymore blows to the jaw like those, they really hurt.
PostPosted: Mon Mar 03, 2014 1:23 pm
Ace was breathing hard as he watched the smirk appear on his opponent/teammates face. This was already hard enough with the type disadvantage. Still he was going to prove that he was the stronger Pokémon. He always had been and he always would be in this case. Heck Ace was pretty sure that he was the best Pokémon Robin would have, when he caught up a bit with Luffy and Raz. He was supposed to be Robin’s first Pokémon and he just had to train to prove it. Growling he watched cautiously as the Croconaw’s mouth seemed to fill up with water. Huffing slightly Ace’s mind worked fast as to how he was going to avoid this one, it seemed like contrary to what Ace believed that he water type did seem to learn some sort of lesson. This was bad for him though as his muscles felt more sluggish then ever as exhaustion seemed to be kicking in some. He wasn’t good for long drawn out fights and that is what this seemed to be becoming. The water gun attack though shot out fast towards the Monferno who just barely jumped to the side in time.
Not one to give up at the first miss Black*Star just filled his jaw up again now just sending shots off wherever the Monferno seemed to be. One of them was bound to hit, and even if it none of them did the barrage was exhausting the fire type; it seemed as each shot seemed to be getting closer and closer to hitting it’s mark. All it would take was one hit and the fire type would be out of this battle, Black*Star was sure of it. The cocky Croconaw didn’t seem to notice that with each shot Ace was getting closer and closer to him. Or maybe it was the bits of steam that appeared wherever Ace dashed off to or landed next that seemed to be messing with his perception. He did notice though when the Monferno seemed to almost appear in his face, the determined look on its face as Ace’s fist connected hard with Black*Stars massive jaw just as he released a powerful water gun attack right into Aces own face.
Robin watched as both of her Pokémon went flying. It was clear to her that this was a double K.O. She watched with worried blue eyes as they landed hard on the ground. There was so much rage and pent up frustration in both of them. She was concerned that these two were just not going to get along, not just with each other but with the rest of her team as well. Ace was already so aloof and barely liked or listened to her. Robin had thought that they had made some progress but maybe she was wrong. She didn’t really know what to do about a Pokémon that seemed to have no interest in getting along with her or her others. Sure she had Luffy and Raz who were both a lot stronger than him right now but as the Monfernos strength grew she wasn’t sure he would continue to listen to her or not just out right attack the others.
No, that wasn’t right, Ace might not like them but he wouldn’t attack her other Pokémon, he seemed the type to just withdraw. Black*Star though, he would attack the others; Ace anyway. He just seemed to have problems with other starter Pokémon. He was so sure he was the best and that was that, anyone who stood in his way would just be swallowed up in those massive jaws of his.
Sighing Robin hoped that this battle helped work out something between the two of them. If it did the two of them would be battling until it was all burned out of their system, or at least until it turned into a sort of friendly rivalry, or something. Reaching down she ruffled the soft fuzz of the Larvesta sitting in her lap. Little Zuko had tried so hard to keep the flame burning through the little battle between Ace and Black*Star but it hadn’t lasted very long. No it seemed the bright flashes of flame and torrents of water had proved too much of a distraction; either that or Zuko really couldn’t sustain a flame very long at all. That in itself was troubling if that was the case. How was it that it seemed like her team was falling apart? It was unbalanced, in fighting was at an all time high and ego’s needed to be put into check. Well Black*Star and Ace’s ego’s needed to be put into check.
A frown appeared on Robin’s face as she rested her elbows on her bent knees and cupped her chin between her hands. “What to do Zuko.” She pondered out loud. “We need a lot of training.” Robin lamented. The Larvesta just looked up at her with somewhat worried eyes. “I know your young I don’t blame you for not being able to hold the flame. It just seems like we are all so behind. Like we should be further ahead or something; we are nowhere near ready to challenge the next gym. I feel it. Sure Luffy and Raz could probably do it but I want you to be there, Slowpoke, Black*Star, and Ace. We are all so separate in where we are in training. You’re so behind them and they are so far behind Luffy and Raz.” She paused as she ran her fingers through the soft fuzz on his head. “I guess that is why Tony Tony doesn't want me using those two very much anymore. Let the rest of you guys catch up.”
In her lap Zuko looked up at her and felt a wave of sadness, was he holding everyone back? He had a feeling that Robin hadn’t exactly expected him to show up. Not that she didn’t love him; she seemed to love everything. It was more like he wasn’t planned and he had ruined all of her carefully laid plans. She could get the others to Luffy’s level a lot faster then she could get him. A fire seemed to light in the small bug, well he was going to do it! He was going to work twice as hard so that he could get stronger twice as fast. This little bug wasn’t going to be the one holding back the rest of the team. Hard work would make it so they were all holding him back!
The redhead groaned softly as he slowly maneuvered his aching everything until he'd assumed a standing position. In retrospect, however, it wasn't the brightest of ideas as he was immediately hit by waves of alternating dizziness and nausea and he all but stumbled forward into the bars of the cell, hanging on to them for dear life. His head was pounding so fiercely that he was sure it was going to explode at any minute, but unfortunately, nothing - not even his extensive background in cynicism and snark could have prepared him for the words that Dante said next:
"Keegan. Let me see your a**."
If he hadn't felt like vomiting before, well, he certainly did now and he relinquished his death-grip on the iron bars as he slowly turned to look at Dante, his expression a mix of horror and confusion (and possibly the slightest hint of intrigue) as the other hungover/semi-drunken teen fumbled over his words to try and make them seem less absurd. Eyes wide, Keegan turned and backed himself as far as he could go into the corner of the cell as though it would save him. "What? N-no! No ******** way," he spat, or would have had his stomach not been trying to empty its contents all over the floor of the already impossibly-small holding cell the two boys currently occupied. His voice, instead, had been weak and somewhat raspy, and though he tried with all of what little willpower he seemed to possess, he could not ignore the fact that his gluteus maximus had just added a less-than delightful itching sensation to go along with the painful burning.
The pleading look and tone in Dante's eyes and voice seemed to strike a chord within him though, and against his better, better judgement, Keegan gave a defeated groan. "...fine," he grumbled, reluctantly stepping out of the relative safety of the corner. "I've got nothing left to lose now except my dignity anyway." He was filled with a nauseating sense of recollection as well as severe regret as he turned his back on Dante and took his sweet-a** time unbuckling his belt. He swallowed the lump in his throat, trying to think of something witty or sarcastic to say to lighten the mood a little, but as luck would have it, just as he dropped his pants, the officer from before just so happened to be walking by. "...And now I've lost that, too," he muttered dejectedly.
"I leave you kids alone for two minutes," he sighed, shaking his head. "I guess you want another count of indecent exposure added to your list of charges from last night, eh, Summers?"
"A-another? N-no, S-sir," the redhead answered meekly, momentarily too mortified to remember that he was currently standing in a jail cell, hungover, half-naked, and at some point last night, likely ended up getting a highly-embarrassing tattoo on his left a** cheek - that, or a terrible case of road rash and he somehow didn't think that was it.
"Then pull your pants up. Your parents are gonna be here soon and I'm sure they're happy enough with you as it is already without you parading around in here buck nekkid." He loudly rapped his nightstick against the cell bars, and Keegan nearly fell over himself in his haste to yank his jeans back up around his waist.
When the guard was gone again, Keegan turned back to Dante, wearing a rather dark scowl as he fumbled to fasten his belt. "Yeah, I hate you so much right now," he growled, having nearly forgotten the reason why he'd just showed Dante his a** in the first place. That unfortunate memory returned to him, however, and he openly cringed as he spoke next, certain he'd stood there with his pants down long enough for Dante to get a good, long look at him. "Be honest... how bad... how bad is it?"
Jasper was slightly annoyed to find that he and his toothy partner-in-crime hadn't wandered all that far into the National Park after all and had made it back to the main gate rather quickly. The boy sighed tiredly and slumped up against the wall where he was watched by Croconaw for a solid two minutes before she belly-flopped onto the ground for an impromptu nap. Pulling his knees up to his chest, Jasper then buried his face in his arms. "And to think it's not even noon yet," he mumbled, not totally against the idea of taking a nap himself as he silently wondered if he'd ever get used to this high-energy trainer lifestyle. At the very least, he needed to increase his stamina or something because damn, he was already wiped out and again, it wasn't even noon yet.
"Heya kid, are you done already?" a gravelly voice called out several minutes later, startling Jasper out of the semi-doze he'd fallen into.
"Huh? Wha...? Oh, yeah, I'm done. I er, uh... I caught, uh, the thing..." he said, somewhat coherently as he lifted his head just enough to peer at the intrusive jerk that had awoken him. "Just... waiting."
"Well," the contest attendant said, checking his watch, "if you say so. There's about fifteen minutes left before the contest ends if you want to try for something else."
"Nah, we're good," the sleepy youth replied, giving a lazy, dismissive wave of his hand. Croconaw continued to saw logs on the ground nearby, sending a jolt of jealousy surging through her trainer at her ability to sleep through the interruption.
"If you say so," the man replied, either oblivious to Jasper's irritation or flat-out ignoring it completely. "What'd ya catch, if you don't mind me askin'?"
"A bug," Jasper replied sardonically, again looking up at the man to study his reaction.
As expected, he chuckled and shook his head. "Yeah, I guess I asked for that one, eh?"
"Walked right into it," Jasper agreed, stifling a yawn. "But yeah. I caught a Ven-o-nat out there. Tricksy little thing."
"Sorry? A what-now?"
"Ven-o-nat."
"You mean 'Venonat'?"
"That's what I said, isn't it?"
"Uh... alrighty, then." The attendant gave a nod and turned away from the tired trainer for a moment, unsure if he was just hearing incorrectly or if, in fact, the youth was actually mispronouncing the Pokemon's name on purpose. "If you're done, you can turn in your, uh, capture for the judging phase. We'll let you know when they're ready to announce the winners."
Hayley enjoyed a deep lungful of salty, Vermilion sea air as she looked around, wondering just what her next step should be. From what she remembered of her extensive study of her Town Map, the easiest way to get to Goldenrod City would be to board a ferry that would take her to Johto right from here. Well, not here-here specifically, but the basic point was there. The Bennett girl could feel a fire in her belly as she found directions to the harbor. It wouldn't be long now; she could feel it! All she had to do was get herself to Johto and she'd be even closer to tracking down her brother!
That fire she felt was quickly extinguished as Hayley would soon discover that the next ferry going from Vermilion to Olivine wouldn't be for a couple of days from now. After politely asking the harbormaster to double and triple-check the schedule but to no avail, a somewhat-disappointed Hayley wandered along the coast, the wind having been effectively removed from her sails, at least for the moment, and she desperately wished she had some other means of getting herself over to Goldenrod. She thought of Cynder and his recent evolution, and what that fiery Mike fellow had said about his next evolution still being quite far off. The realization that she wouldn't be flying with a Charizard of her very own any time soon was a bit disheartening, to say the least. The sight of something red and shiny caught her attention as it scuttled along the rocky shore: a Krabby. All at once her troubles were forgotten as she dropped her bag on the ground and pulled out her sketchbook, intent on capturing the interesting water type, but only as a Pokemon Watcher could.
A little while later, Hayley was back in the heart of Vermilion City, trying to decide what her next move would be. Moping around here until the next ferry to Johto sounded boring, and she knew she really should continue to work with her Pokemon to help them get stronger. After all, what if there were some scary-strong Pokemon over in Johto and she needed her team to defend her? Again she thought of her Charmeleon, and smiled to herself as she lovingly patted his Pokeball. Wouldn't it be something if she and all of her Pokemon worked crazy-hard and the next time she saw those guys - Mike, Kassie, and Riza as well - that she was suddenly super-tough, too! Then they could all have epic battles til the Miltank came home. First thing was first, though, the young Watcher knew that she had quite a ways to go before she'd be anywhere near their level. And when that glorious day came when she'd finally be reuninted with her brother, he'd be impressed with just how good of a trainer his sister was!
There were not many times when Dante wasn’t ready and oh so willing to tease, torment, embarrass, harass, and laugh at any and all misfortune Keegan had, but this; this was just too awful. Dante would not even have made fun of Keegan if he wasn’t oh so positive he was wearing the other half of… of that thing on his own a**. Maybe some other time this might be funny or open to teasing, but not now, not with the wound so fresh. If Keegan didn’t pick up on the fact that Dante didn’t even any make mention of him flashing his Trouser Ekans, or even calling it a Trouser Caterpie and laughing then it had to be bad. The less snide remarks, quips or snarky behavior usually signaled the oncoming disaster, seeing as shutting Dante up around Keegan was almost impossible.
What had rendered Dante so speechless was the fact that on Keegans left buttcheek was one of the most vibrant, colorful and sugary sweet tattoo’s Dante had never even imagined. The colors were like a crayon box threw up everything it had. Not only was every color represented there were a few Dante had never seen before. The image crafted before him seemed almost lovingly and delicately placed with each dark line swooping and curving into a realistic yet still somewhat cartoony Ponyta rearing up on its hind legs. The normal hues a Ponyta were seemed to have been thrown out the window only to be replaced with every color in the rainbow and then some. Large round eyes seemed to be filled with all the goodness and joy in the world. Behind the rainbowed symbol for all things cute and good was an actual half of a rainbow. Rays of light and sparkles seemed to be emitting from the beam itself in a masterful display of talent from the artist.
If that had been it Dante would have been able to recover and maybe make some sort of offhand comment about Keegan being his rainbow ride. What stopped him in his tracks, and confirmed his suspicions of the fact that he had a matching one on his right cheek were the delicate cursive letters that read ‘Dante’ boldly and clearly on Keegans behind. That wasn’t just it, below it Dante could see two more words, the middle one reading ‘Friends’ and the bottom one spelling out ‘Ever’. As Dante pondered what that possibly meant mounting horror came over him as a sort of hysteric giggle escaped him. The words were between the Ponytas legs where it was reared up and Dante was sure that if he matched his tattoo up with Keegans his own Ponytas legs would form a heart in with Keegans that would complete their complete and totally humiliation.
Keegan Dante
Best Friends
For Ever
By the time this had sunk into Dante’s head Keegan had already pulled up his pants and was making very embarrassed conversation with the guard. He continued to sit there in a state of shock as Keegan asked him how it was. His face was a paler than normal, even for him and he was pretty sure that his hands were shaking. Wide black eyes continued to stare off into the concrete wall as he let the image sink further and further into his brain. After a moment his body reminded him with a sharp intake of breath that he needed to breathe if he wanted to continue living; something Dante was not sure about any more. His whole demeanor seemed to shift to something resembling a sheltered virgin girl who had just been explained what sex was for the first time. “I…” he tried to speak but nothing would really come out. Words that normally came so easily to him were like water in his fingers slipping away into nothingness. “I…” Dante tried to speak again before turning wide earnest eyes to Keegan. “I think I want to kill myself.” With that being said he rolled over and curled up into a little ball.
The worst part of the tattoo was the fact that it was so well done. Dante thought as he lied in his safe little ball wishing he had his long jacket. The fact that this was probably someone’s best work, a masterpiece really, the thought that they had probably paid good money for this. That was the problem. Dante could have lived with it being a horrible drunken tattoo that would be something he and Keegan could laugh about. This though, this… this was something different. The fact the he probably had a rainbow piece of art on his a** with Keegan’s name lovingly scrawled across his a**. Laughing a bit hysterically to himself again a crazy thought came into his head. “Your a** is mine now Keegan.” He giggled out his voice reaching a pitch it hadn’t reached since he was 13.
Sighing Robin was ignorant of her own young Pokémon’s thoughts as she recalled the fainted Croconaw and Monferno. Despite her worries they had done well, they had each been put outside of their own comfort zone and both had risen to the occasion. Smiling slightly she placed both pokeballs in her bag and turned her attention to the still ongoing battle between Raz and Slowpoke. It seemed like it had now just turned into a sort of all out brawl. Slowpoke was unable to hit Raz and Raz’s speed seemed to almost be working against him though when it came to hitting the Slowpoke. The Dopey Pokémon seemed to be rolling over or stepping aside just at the right time. It could also be the fact that Robin could barely see Raz, he was mostly a loud humming sound and a swift vacuum of air as he whipped by Slowpoke, Zuko and her. As she watched him, or tried to, Robin thought on how hard it would be to control one’s speed when you went that fast. It would be really tough, no wonder he was having trouble hitting even Slowpoke.
Sitting there Robin wondered what she could do to help him out with that. Even her strong Pokémon needed some help it seemed like. Then again like her Master Tony Tony said, one never stopped needing improvement. So it shouldn’t be surprising or disappointing. No, Robin should be viewing this as an opportunity to improve not only her and her teams bonds but improve on them as a whole. They all needed to work together and they all needed to be able to help each other grow. Now how to do all that? They still needed to make it to the next town to challenge that gym leader. Robin was pretty sure Ace and Black*Star would be able to handle whatever that gym leader threw their way but she still wanted them to be able to get along and help one another, plus it was good training to make them even stronger. Plus if she worked things right Slowpoke should be able to help them out as well. Well, he was a lot stronger then Black*Star and Ace, it was just she remembered her impulsive capture of the Pokémon and wasn’t quite sure what to do with him now. Well she would figure something out that was for sure. Right now though she thought the two of them were done, the battles had done enough damage to the park and Robin suddenly wished she Brook with her to help her fix this place up. The little plant Pokémon would have a better idea on what to do then all of her other destruction bent Pokémon.
“All right Raz, Slowpoke you two are done. Since neither of you seem to be able to hit each other and seem to have forgotten what you were supposed to be doing in the first place. We need to get everyone here healed up and then I think we might be moving onto the next town.” She clapped her hands together as she picked Zuko up. She seemed reluctant to even let the little bug Pokémon touch the ground. Maybe it was the instantaneous love and protectiveness she had felt at first upon seeing the fire bug pop out of his egg shell but if she had her way the Torch Pokémon would probably not see his first battle until Robin was working on her last badge. Shuffling around for Raz’s park ball and Slowpokes pokeball she recalled the water type first and when Raz reappeared she called him back to with a quick pat on the head.
“Pokémon Center it is! Maybe we can get some lunch, oh and pop into the Pokemart, you guys worked hard today.” Yes her team did work hard and Robin figured it might be a good idea to reward them. Plus she had the money to buy Ace a TM now, after all Black*Star had gotten one and she wanted to keep things even between the two of them. Grinning she held up her baby Pokémon and cooed at him. “I bet baby Zuko here would like a TM or something as well right? I bet you would!” She giggled as the bug just stared at her. “Aww you are so cute!”
Zuko was starting to get a little annoyed with all the babying. Sure he was young but that didn’t mean he had to be embarrassed like this. None of Robin’s other tough Pokémon got snuggled or hugged or babied like him. Then again none of Robins other Pokémon hatched just the other day. Also all of Robins other Pokémon had battle experience, and could do some decent training, Zuko could barely hold a flame for longer than a minute. He just had so far to go to even be able to hold a candle to all of Robin’s other Pokémon. They had been with her for so long, or at least he thought they had, and all of them seemed so much better than him, the odds were stacked against the young bug. That was why he had to train, if Robin wouldn’t let him train with the others he was just going to have to do so in secret. Maybe he could sneak out late at night? Zuko was pretty sure he could convince his trainer to let him sleep out of his pokeball, after all he had never seen the monkey thing in his pokeball. Lost in his thoughts the bug never noticed Robin heading into the Pokémon Center.
Practically skipping to the counter Robin placed four pokeballs on the counter. “Could you please heal my Pokemon Nurse Joy?” She smiled sweetly at the nurse who smiled back and took them from her. While waiting for her companions to be healed Robin glanced around trying to spot a familiar straw hat and frowned slightly when she didn’t see it. Was Luffy still napping? She had been gone for a little while she figured the monkey would be up by now. Shrugging she was greatful when Nurse Joy handed her back her friends.
“You might want to get them and yourself washed up, you all look like you rolled around in a mud bath.” The pink haired nurse teased Robin.
“Ah! Sorry about that!” Robin chirped and looked guiltily down at the muddy footprints that she had tracked into the clean Pokémon center. “Umm, I can clean that up?” She offered a goofy grin on her face. “Just um, just let me get cleaned up first. I don’t want to just keep tracking dirt all over everything.” Slipping her muddy shoes off Robin headed over to the showers and grabbed an empty stall.
It was a struggle, especially getting Zuko (who quickly discovered he defiantly did not like showers) but was relatively clean himself from being carried everywhere, and Ace who immediately climbed up onto the stall divider and wouldn’t come down no matter how much Robin begged. It was an interesting sight to see a naked Robin climbing up into another stall after an angry Monferno who did not want to get in the least bit into the falling water. Eventually it took a compromise of Robin turning the water up so hot she thought she was in a Krabby boil and Black*Stars teasing as he flaunted his love of water in front of the angry fire type, to get into the shower.
Skin coming down from red into a nice pink from the boiling shower Robin headed over to the laundry part of the Pokémon center and threw her dirty training clothes inside. Only Zuko was left as the curious bug type watched her throw the muddy garments into the strange white box, the rest of her team were cleaning up the muddy mess in the lobby.
Along with her ever growing embarrassment was a feeling of totally being done with this battle already and Riza looked up at her Fearow, heavily regretting taking the cranky bird out of her PC box for one lousy battle. "I swear, Plua, you're making me so angry right now," the raven haired girl growled, also quite unhappy with the fact that her Pokemon was making her look like an incompetent trainer in the process.
"I think your Fearow has a good head on her shoulders," Eva offered from her side of the field, causing Riza to scowl. "Swellow, let's really make things fun! Use Double Team!" The Swellow gave a cry an split into five or six different birds, yet they all looked alike, right down to their echoing cries and quick flying movements.
"Great, just great," Riza sighed, knowing there was nothing she could do while Plua was waiting to swoop down with her attack. The Fearow gave an indignant caw and dove down, eyes full of malace as she honed in on her target, or well targets. Of course, the cocky Fearow underestimated just how tricky hitting just one of the Swellow would be and she missed completely, leaving her wide open to be attacked.
Eva continued to smile, as she was enjoying the battle but at the same time, she was a bit concerned as to why Riza was getting so upset. "Swellow, it's time for an Aerial Ace," she said confidently. All of the Swellow trilled loudly and they all seemed to race toward Plua at once and from all directions. For the first time since Riza had met her, the Beak Pokemon looked genuinely worried, and with good reason as she was then hit hard from behind by the real Swellow. The focus energy from before played a role now, making it a critical hit at that.
Riza looked on in a mix of anger and frustration as she watched her only flying-type fall to the ground, unconscious. "That could have gone better," she sighed as she recalled her Pokemon.
Katie did nothing to mask her smugness over her Roselia completely outwitting the brawny Machoke and she continued to smirk at the martial artist as he recalled his Pokemon into its poke ball. "Are you really sure you wanna go two on two?" she asked tauntingly, twirling the end of one of her ponytails in her fingers. "You know, since that first round went so well for you."
The martial artist frowned, but said nothing in reply to the girl's taunts. "Croagunk, it is time for battle," he said, releasing his second and last Pokemon onto the field. "Taunt, let's go!" he called, not wasting a moment. The Toxic Mouth Pokemon wasn't wasting any time either, quickly leaping forward beckoning for Seraphim to attack him. The normally calm and collected Seraph took a step forward, her eyes narrowed as she punched the air with her arms.
Katie frowned at this, as she knew quite well just how useful Taunt could be, especially against Pokemon that relied on status aliments, like her Roselia. 'Okay, Croagunk is fighting and poison, so that would make it super weak against psychic moves, but it resists poison for sure...and grass....' the orange haired girl continued to frown as she tried to figure out what move would be most effective against the frog like Pokemon. "Okay, let's just go for broke then! Giga Drain!"
Seraphim stepped forward again, eagerly initiating the life stealing attack. Katie quickly noticed that the energy sucked from the Croagunk was much less than what she'd taken from the machoke and that was troubling. The only thing more troubling than that was the martial artist giving the command for a Poison Jab, and the Croagunk was racing forward, rearing back as his whole forearm had started to glow with a vibrant purple.
Brock had smiled and gave a respectful nod at Mike's comment, but before he could add his own two cents to the mix, the strange boy was talking to seemingly no one again. "O-okay," the gym leader said, exchanging confused looks with his Onix as the Rock snake Pokemon looked just as dumbfounded as his trainer. The pair's confusion only grew as the boy suddenly screamed and belched out what looked like a burst of fire and once again Brock found himself looking around expectantly for whomever it was that Mike wanted to shut up. Of course, he saw no such person.
"Uh, yeah, that's how it is, all right," Brock chuckled nervously, choosing to just go with it rather than ask questions that he wasn't sure he even wanted to know the answers to, though the whole spitting fire thing was still pretty much blowing his mind. No wonder Mike had worked so hard to avoid getting hit by any stray droplets of water. His initial hunch was about to be proven true, as once Mike's rant about letting lose and blowing up and breaking things was over, the tiny Omanyte was summoning a massive wave of water to swallow the suddenly small Onix in comparison. Normally Brock would have taken the initiative to recall his Pokemon and save it from taking such a brutal thrashing, but this Mike kid had really thrown his whole game out of whack so all he could do was stand there and stare uselessly as his poor Onix was rocked by the Surf attack.
When the carnage was over, the gym leader seemed to snap back to reality and he blinked a few times and gave his head a shake. "Oh yeah, no hard feelings," he laughed, finally recalling his nearly drowned Onix. "The match is yours, no doubt about that." He snapped his fingers and a somewhat apprehensive Geodude hobbled over to the victorious challenger and his Pokemon, holding a grey box with the Pewter City gym's emblem engraved on the top of it. "Your Boulder Badge, prize money, and one of my favourite TMs, Rock Tomb," he added. "It's not the strongest of rock-type moves but if used right, it can really help you out in a pinch." He wasn't sure that Mike needed his gym leader-ly advice as he seemed to be more than competent, but it was more like a habit now than anything else.
The seconds that followed the redhead's heart-wrenching inquiry felt like hours; the silence in the room almost painfully deafening. The very fact that Dante had yet to say anything was a clear testament to just how horrific the situation truly was, and Keegan could only stare helplessly at his friend as he waited for some sort of an answer - a sarcastic remark, an insult, hysterical laughter, anything. The only thing Keegan could hear was his own heartbeat sending his water-deprived blood through his veins and it was both infuriating and terrifying. Dante's complexion looked remarkably like a sheet of white paper, which was saying something considering how pale he was on a normal day, and he hadn't moved so much as an inch - and neither had his vacant stare - it was safe to assume that Dante had checked out completely.
"Dante." An audible crack was present in Keegan's voice as he spoke, hoping that he'd somehow spur the other boy into answering. After what felt like an anxious eternity, Dante showed some signs of life by emitting a high-pitched giggle that made Keegan cringe. The fact that he was still strapped for words was troubling, yes, but Keegan's mounting anger over being kept in the dark over what monstrosity now decorated his behind was continually growing. He'd been about to jump across the small cell and start wringing Dante's scrawny little neck (hey, what was an aggravated assault charge on top of the probable laundry-list of other charges he'd wracked up the night before) when the auburn-haired teen expressed his desire to put an end to his own misery before assuming the fetal position on the cold, concrete floor. The following comment about now owning the redhead's a** only served to tick him off even further, and fear of the unknown was probably the only thing keeping Keegan from murdering Dante on the spot. The small part of his brain that was still capable of rational thought easily picked up on the fact that it was all too likely that Dante had a tattoo of equal and/or matching horror etched onto his own backside, but Keegan's volatile temper was currently in charge of the situation so those thoughts never did quite make it to the surface.
"You want to kill yourself?" he screeched incredulously, but he was partially drowned out by Dante's childlike giggle-fit. "IT'S MY a**, REMEMBER?" Either way, Dante was of no help right now, and Keegan turned his back on the giggling boy, muttering possibly every cuss word he knew in a long, colourful string as he started pacing small circles in the cell. Not knowing for sure was killing him and he stopped his pacing long enough to undo his belt yet again, but this time he only loosened things up enough to sort-of half peer over his shoulder enough to glimpse his own rear end. The resulting exclamation that escaped Keegan's lips was beyond comprehensible, let alone coherent. He couldn't see the whole thing, but there was enough colour practically exploding from inside his jeans (the fact that his boxers were mysteriously missing only served to put an exclamation point on the whole thing) that the only plausible explanation was that someone had liquefied every colour known to man and somehow barfed it up onto his buttocks in some sort of a presentable shape.
It was now Keegan's turn to burst into hysterical laughter, and he did so in such a manner (and while doing up his pants enough to keep them from falling down again) that even Mike would be proud of him. The two carried on for quite some time, and just when Keegan didn't think things could get any worse, his queasiness caught up with him and he proceeded to vomit up what was likely the entire contents of his stomach onto the floor. "Oh god," he muttered, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand as he stared down at the curiously familiar colourful mess he'd just made in the corner of the holding cell. "I don't... hey. I don't remember eating that," he mumbled, staggering back to the center of the cell and gracefully tripping over Dante in the process. It was his turn to tuck himself into the fetal position and he shivered from the cold, seriously wishing he'd accepted Dante's offer of a murder/suicide pact when they'd first woken up in this godforsaken place.
Now, Miharu may have only glanced over Emile's moves once or twice before, but she was certain that none of the moves listed - not even the ones he had yet to learn - looked anything like that last one had. Her PokeDex made another appearance and after a bit of fiddling with the buttons, she was able to bring up Emile's stats page. It seemed that the darling little Oshawott had been blessed with the ability to use Night Slash, which her PokeDex identified as an Egg Move - just like how Lily had hatched already knowing how to use her patented Petal Dance move. That little shell of his certainly comes in handy, Miharu thought as she put the device back into her bag, and looked from Emile to the downed Patrat.
"Osh, osh, oshaaa-wott wott!" the otter cheered, pointing eagerly at the fallen Normal-type.
"Yes, I see," Miharu said, nodding. "You won. I'm very impressed, Emile."
The Oshawott fiercely shook his head and gestured emphatically toward the Patrat. "Osh! Ohshaa, Oshawott!"
"I... I don't understand," the girl said weakly. "I'm not very fluent in Poke-speak."
The Water-type made a face and stomped over to his reluctant trainer and pointed his little paw at the red and white sphere in her hand, and then at the Patrat again. Couldn't she tell that now was a perfect time to capture a new friend?
The Oshawott's tirade hadn't gone unnoticed by the Patrat, meanwhile, as it had come around and was slowly pulling itself into a sitting position. Wait, what had that little instigator just said? Something about capturing it? Oh no, that wasn't going to happen. Patrat had agreed to a battle with this crazy Pokemon and nothing more than that! As the human continued to blink in confusion, the Normal-type jumped to its feet and ran away as fast as its little feet could carry it. Miharu watched it disappear into the tall grass. "What's going on, Emile?" she asked tiredly.
The Water-type heaved a defeated sigh and said nothing; he only turned and started trudging back in the direction of Nuvema Town.
For a good few moments, Damien just stood there with his mouth hanging open, partially due to the shock of Karrigan's drastic change in appearance and also partially because Eli the a*****e Ghost had discovered that it was quite fun to stick his ethereal limbs through Damien's chest, causing bone-chilling sensations to course through the medium's body. "Hey buddy, don't be rude," Eli snickered, clearly enjoying the torment he was inflicting on the boy. "The lady asked you a question!"
"Shut up, and leave me alone," Damien grumbled, but realizing how it may sound, he turned to the redhead, raising his hands defensively. "Uh, not you, Karrigan, but yeah, there is someone here. A very annoying someone, in fact." He coughed and adjusted his jacket some, being sure to give Eli the coldest glare he was capable of in the meantime. "Oh, you got a new outfit?" he asked, attempting to sound casual, but coming off as, well, cold. "Yeah, it's.... it looks, it's uh... nice."
"Nice? Uh oh!" Eli shouted, slapping his forehead with his palm. "Look out, we got a ladykiller over here! Hide your daughters and lock up your wives, gents! Damien Casanova Crowley is roamin' free tonight!"
Damien groaned and pinched the bridge of his nose with his thumb and index finger. While he was irritated beyond words (and even more annoyed by the fact that Eli knew his last name), he couldn't help but feel a bit relieved that only he could hear Eli's ravings as it would at least save him from some embarrassment. “Anyway, yeah. Don't worry about it, you've done nothing to apologize for. And yes, breakfast sounds good. Let’s go,” he said, also feeling a bit thankful that Karrigan had been so accepting of his strange ability in the first place.
This isn't working, Kasiya thought with a frown, wondering how it was possible that she'd underestimated a Pidgey. It occurred to her, however, that Tessa was a member of Falkner's gym and therefore it made sense to assume that her Pidgey - regardless of how common the species - was fairly well trained and a lot more experienced than a wild one would be. That thought also served to remind her that she was a rather experienced trainer herself, and that had to carry some kind of weight, even if she was battling with a relatively inexperienced Pokemon. We can do this, she thought, smiling as she reached up to scratch Pepper under the chin. Besides, I've got an Electric-type on the field. Her eyes widened then; an Electric-type! Of course!
"Isn't this somewhat embarrassing for you?" Tessa called out to her, a lofty tone in her voice. "Keep at it, Pidgey, since they can't keep up with our blinding speed, we'll keep whittling 'em down!"
Think what you want, Kasiya thought, still smiling as she watched the tiny bird soar through the air. She had no intentions of letting Tessa get to her, something she decided to thank her dad for teaching her the next time she saw him. "Zaira, stay put," she said quietly, giving a nod. No need to broadcast her new strategy to her cocky opponent. The Luxio looked back at her trainer and gave an inquisitive cry, but did as told. "That's right. Just wait until the moment's right, okay? When you're ready, let's see how much they like your Spark."
Zaira's confusion gave way to understanding, and a devilish gleam appeared in her eyes. She looked back up at the sky and braced herself, knowing by now that it was useless to try and track the bird's swift movements with just her eyes. She hunkered down, teeth grit as the Pidgey swiped her side again. The next time the bird made a pass, the Luxio decided, would be its last. A faint spark of electricity crackled from her paws as she flexed her claws, waiting patiently as the seconds ticked by. Then, she heard it; the rush of air, the flap of the tiny bird's wings. With a low grow, she concentrated, and her whole body became wreathed in crackling electricity just as the Normal/Flying-type came in to attack again. The resulting collision resulted in a painful shriek from the small bird and it fluttered to the ground, clearly rattled by the hit.
"Now, Zaira! Finish it with a Tackle!" Kasiya cheered, and Zaira quickly pounced on her opponent, ramming it with her lowered head and sending it tumbling across the wooden floor to where it was recalled by a pouting Tessa.
Jaeshan frowned as he could plainly see that those Vine Whips were coming in far too quickly to counter this time. "Bibarel, Defense Curl," he called, suddenly wishing he was the proud owner of a Fire-type right now (if he only knew/was able to remember). The Beaver Pokemon hated playing defensive, but right now that seemed like a much better option then just standing there and getting smacked around like a punching bag. She dropped down and tucked herself into a tight ball, and just in the nick of time too as the vines snapped against her body only moments later, and she was sure it could have hurt a lot more than that (which was already saying something). Meanwhile, the Leech Seed continued to do its dirty work and slowly gnaw away at her health.
Georgia pursed her lips, but managed a smile. She liked this Jaeshan kid; he seemed smart enough and his Pokemon wasn't so bad, either. She'd definitely have to make sure she skipped her gym duties so that she could watch him battle against Gardenia as she was sure it'd be quite a show. "Okay Carnie, use Growth!" she called, her right hand curling into a fist. "If they can buff up, then so can we!" Carnivine gave a spirited cry in agreement, floating up and twirling around as it forced its body to grow some in order to increase both of its attacking stats. Feeling stronger than ever, Carnivine flashed a toothy grin at the Bibarel, daring her to attack it.
"Growth... that's not good," Jaeshan murmured, exchanging a glance with Lisa, who nodded in agreement. He recalled that Bibarel's ability was Simple, and it meant that all her stat changes were doubled, so for now, they still had the edge in the defensive area, at the very least, but he wasn't sure if Carnivine was the type of Pokemon to deploy special attacks. Either way, Bibarel was set up for one of her best tactics and the blond figure it was time to take advantage of that. "Rollout," he commanded, and slowly at first, Bibarel began to roll forward, intent on using that annoying Carnivine as a bowling pin.
"Rollout, huh? Still playin' on the reckless side, I see," Georgia said with a smirk. "Carnivine, hold your ground and use Growth again!" The ginger-haired girl had a plan, and she knew she'd have a few turns before that Bibarel's Rollout became rather dangerous. Carnivine slowly and repeatedly opened and closed its mouth, once again forcing its slender limbs to grow and boost its power. Meanwhile, Bibarel charged along at a steady pace, her rolling body crashing into the Grass-type but not doing nearly enough damage for Jaeshan's liking; at least not yet.
Karrigan's eyes widened as Damien told someone - not her, apparently - to shut up and leave him alone, and again she found herself looking around expectantly for the offending spirit. "It's okay," she mumbled, turning her gaze to the ground as she continued to fumble with her skirt, actually smiling a bit at Damien's, well, compliment. It wasn't much, but coming from him, it felt like high praise. Regardless, he looked quite irritated and the redheaded girl suspected it had something to do with whatever ghost happened to be pestering him this time. She considered opening her mouth to tell the spirit to leave Damien alone for a while, but she didn't, mostly because she wasn't sure if it could even hear her, but also because she knew she'd feel quite silly in doing so. No wonder Damien was so cynical all the time.
She nodded in agreement and they made their way back to the Pokemon Center, little or no talk at all being exchanged during the short walk. Karrigan was starting to discover that she liked the silence that often settled between them, as it was both comfortable and somehow reassuring that she didn't have to worry about making interesting conversation, even if a lot of the time she found herself wanting to ask Damien question after question about his ghostly visitors or how many happened to be around them at any given time.
Breakfast/brunch passed by without incident and Karrigan was pleased to see that her party (minus the ginormous Steelix, of course) were all starting to get along a lot better now. Even the snooty Vulpix seemed to be able to handle mingling with the 'common folk' a lot better now than she did before, and Karrigan couldn't help but feel a strange sense of unity as she and Damien once again stepped outside. "So, Striaton City, then?" she suggested, eager to move on and once again try her hand at a gym battle. "And this is gonna sound odd, but, do you have a bike?" she added, though in retrospect it wasn't that weird considering how compact and easy to carry the collapsible contraptions were.
A short time later, Juliet and the boy, who had finally introduced himself as Patrick, had moved off the road and were now some distance apart as they prepared to begin the battle. Juliet had fully been expecting herself to feel a little nervous after the terrible outcome of her battle with Claire yesterday, but surprisingly enough, she felt just the opposite: she felt calm, ready, and most importantly, confident. The Riolu looked ready as well, showing no signs that yesterday's fight was bothering her or making her hold back in any way.
Patrick looked quite confident as well, scuffing his shoes against the ground as he readied a Poké Ball of his own. "I hope you're ready!" he grinned, taking a second to savour the moment before he threw it out in front of him. "Timburr, let's do this, buddy!" The Muscular Pokémon's grin matched his Trainer's, and he hoisted up the piece of timber he carried with him and swung it around, clearly ready for action.
"A battle of Fighting-types," Juliet said to herself, nodding. "Just like at home." Lottie's response was to take up an offensive stance of her own, for while she'd never seen a Timburr before, she had done many practice battles against its evolved form, Gurdurr, which is possibly why the creature seemed so familiar to her. "Let's do this, Lottie! Get in there and use Quick Attack!" The Riolu gave a chirp and darted forward, her body angled toward the ground to increase her speed.
"Timburr! Intercept with Low Kick!" Patrick shouted, and the other Fighting-type readied itself, watching the oncoming Riolu closely. When Charlotte was close enough, Timburr slammed the end of his log hard into the ground and used it like a pole to swing around and try to take out the Riolu's legs with a sweeping kick. Lottie's eyes went wide and at the last moment she jumped up and over the opposing Pokémon's legs, definitely a feat based on reaction rather than pure skill. She spun around and lashed out with her leg to try and land a kick to the Timburr's back as it recovered from its attack, but the distance between the two was too great and her foot made contact with nothing. The two Fighting-types narrowed their eyes at each other, neither of them wanting to be the one to take the first hit.
