The bird hopped quickly into the tent, out of the pounding rain.
Luk had some rope coiled around one arm, and he tossed one of them to Lin.
"Tie it to the tent loop, and then around a tree, as tight as you can make it," he shouted at her, doing the same on the opposite side. "We've got to do it to all four corners, top and bottom."
The other tents were all being taken care of already, so he wasn't too worried about them.

Catching the rope, Lin hurried towards the tent loop ignoring the squishy mud, it was a good thing she was wearing shoes for once. Didn't have much of a choice seeing as they were traveling.
Quickly she tied it around a tree, wrapping the rope around her hand to get a better grip so she could pull it tight. It was miserable weather, but she ignored it.
it sort of reminded her of the time she went out sparring in a thunderstorm with her father.

Luk wasn't the only one to come and help: Emile and Aric were not far away, and they quickly came over to help as well.
"A pity Caranthir isn't here, eh?" Luk laughed at Lin over the howl of the wind. "He could just put a barrier around all of us! That would keep us dry and warm!"

"No kidding," Lin shouted back as she finished with the first part and then began to brace one of the other areas that hadn't been touched yet.
Every once in while she had to pause to shake the water away from her eyes, the rain made it very difficult to see and with her bangs the wetness made them get in the way. She had to even slick them back so she could see properly.

With four of them working on it, it didn't take as long to brace their tent, and immediately Aric headed back to his family.
"Get back inside," Emile hollered at Lin. "The storm shouldn't last more than an hour or so. Just sit tight."
And with that, he and Luk fought their way against the wind back to their own tent.

Lin hurried back inside the tent, she crouched low and near the tent entrance. Her wings itched, no that they were really itchy but they wanted the water out badly.
"Miyuki, could you please grab me a large towel quickly?" she inquired.
She didn't dare get further in lest she accidentally spray water every were if the itch became too much.
Miyuki, still holding her little brother hurried over to the bags to toss her mother one of the towels. It was an extra large towels obviously meant for large creatures or people with wings.
"Here!"
Towel tossed, Lin grabbed it and hurriedly wrapped it over her shoulders and on top of her wings. The towel ripped as her feathers began to ruffle in an attempt to rid itself of water.

Earendil's eyes grew wide and he pushed himself once more to his feet, running over to kneel next to Lin.
"Are you all right?" he asked her anxiously, reaching with both hands to help her dry her wings. "Let me help you ..."
His injured arm was functioning now, the pain little more than a dull throb now, but it was still very weak. He had interrupted the healing process a second time, leaving Alassëa like that.

Poor girl.... Lin had to quirk her lips a bit at that as she pointed him back to where he was.
"I'm fine, I just didn't want to get water all over the tent that's all. Have you ever seen a bird bath? It's sort of like that, don't worry it's just a bit of water I've done worse in a thunderstorm."

Alassëa groped around for Earendil once more, and when she felt his shirt she grabbed him and yanked him back to the ground. She picked up her staff and whacked him over the head with it - and none too gently at that.
"Sit," she said, her tone annoyed. "No heal." She rapped him on the head with her knuckles, then dropped her staff and continued to work on healing his shoulder.
"Ow," Earendil muttered, rubbing his head with his good hand.

Lin ducked her head trying not to grin, she couldn't help it, but Earendil had been asking for that one for a while now. She knew he couldn't help it, but it was clearer now than ever she was really going to have to push to make sure he didn't take up all the work.
Ah... they were peas in a pod they were.
"Let her finish, you keep getting up on the poor woman," Lin murmured trying to not chuckle.
Miyuki herself was kind of torn, on one sense she didn't like that Alassea had whacked her ada over the head, on the other hand she could kind of see where this strange lady was coming from. That and her mommy was chuckling so her ada must have deserved it somehow.

"It's not my fault," Earendil protested. "Something ripped and I didn't know if your wings were doing something else to you or not."
Still, his face was red with an appropriate measure of embarrassment, and he sat obediently and let Alassëa work.

"I should have gotten a bigger towel, but unfortunately I don't have one," Lin murmured, "Normally I use these to cover the wall I know is going to get sprayed with water if I'm in closed quarters, but that's after bathing."
She didn't add that was the other reason why she referred showers, in the showering stall it didn't matter if she got water on the walls at all.

"Well then how about after I'm finished here, I help you dry your wings thoroughly," Earendil suggested, a hopeful gleam in his eye. "I know you could do it yourself, but I've been ever so bored ..."
He was half-teasing her, of course. He just wanted the opportunity to be near her, do something that was somewhat intimate while they were on this trip and couldn't do much more.

Lin giggled at that, she knew she would like that. It wasn't often they got close and this was as close as they would be able to get while on the road, which was probably a lot closer than people realized. There was something very personal about touching one's wings.
"Sure, be good and sit there until you've been healed and I'll be waiting righttttt here," she replied.

Instantly, Earendil froze.
"I'll be good," he promised, his eyes fixed on Lin, the corners of his mouth upturned in an almost giddy smile.
As it turned out, it wasn't until the end of the storm nearly two hours later that his arm was healed and ready to use again. He stretched it this way and that, testing it out, and he was absolutely amazed at how good it felt. How normal it felt.
He grinned broadly. "Miyuki," he murmured, "by now your brother must be really hungry. Why don't you take him and Alassëa back to Alena? I'm sure Alassëa will need to rest, and your brother needs some food."
Andarien was getting grumpy, all right; though to be honest he was mostly suggesting this so that he and Lin would have a bit of alone time.
