Her form retracted slightly as Jessie gave her a strange look, returning it with one of her own. "W-What?" she asked innocently. Before she could even make a silent prayer that he not press her on the matter, however, he pulled her into his arms for a loose hug and planted a kiss upon her forehead. Which, by now he would probably be able to predict, elicited a light blush from the girl. Sure enough, he found her out; but really, it wasn't that big of a--

...Wait. What did he just call her?

The soft pink evolved into a furious red shade. Coline's head snapped down in embarrassment, not quite able to look him in the eye. She was used to being called names such as dear and little one, but love? That was... just...

Come to think of it though, she had never addressed him affectionately before, had she? It was always either Captain, or sir, or Jessie. To be honest, she still felt butterflies whenever she'd call him by his name; not as much as before, but still. So what more if she called him her... her... her what? What was he to her exactly?

The questions spiraled on in her mind as she inadvertently stared at his bare chest, deep in thought. It would only occur to her what she'd been doing a minute or two later. Coline snapped her head back up, her gaze meeting his again, and her body tensed. Just where was she supposed to look!?

Realizing that looking sideways was indeed an option, she turned her head away, flustered. "I-I'm fine. You--" stopping midway, she then turned back to look at the drow; the thought of something much more important was enough to ease her self-consciousness. "How are you feeling?" she asked, bringing the back of her hand up to feel his neck. "I brought you some bread a few hours back. Were you able to finish it? Oh, but it's okay if you weren't. I wasn't sure myself if it was poisonous for you or not, so..." her brow furrowed in genuine concern. "I can get you something else though, if you're still hungry...?"

User ImageI am gone from my home, my world...

As soon as he had been ripped from his home, he had felt everything. His Natural Rakshasa Magic had come back to him and he sensed Feline Nearby... And she was just as bad off as he was. she fell over herself to get near to him, And in the end, curled up next to him in the same state he was. He had not been expecting the sudden loss of control, but his body knew what had happened and could fight it off. The girl was at the mercy of whatever power she had.
He rose up to his knees, and slowly picked her up in his arms, her curling and conforming to his touch. He came up off of his knees, and grudgingly moved towards the door.
"In...f-firmary," he gasped, walking though the guards. if they didn't want him going anywhere, they would feel it in the morning when or if they woke up. Instead, they kept their weapons trained on him the entire time.
He stumbled in the rain once or twice, fighting to keep going. His form sheltered the girl from the pelting water, shielding her from the cold and wet. He made his way through the temple, dragging his feet and his muscles spasming, but he kept going. it wasn't far now.
He made it in the door, and made for the first empty bed, ignoring the others in the room, his guards trailing right behind him, swords at the ready. He set her down in the infirmary bed, and with that, his last bit of strength gave out, and he collapsed there, at the foot of the bed.

But it is really gone from me?

"Just let me give you everything, as I desire..."
User Image

Smiling neverendingly, the drow kissed her brow again, hand coming up to stroke the back of her head as he'd done while comforting her on the floor the week before. He was so damn happy! It was a wonderful feeling. Did it matter that they were out on the landing in a stranger's house where they could be discovered and disapproved of at any moment? Not a single bit. In fact, could they just stay there like that forever? That would be absolutely ideal. Please?

Pulling her even closer, he rested his head on top of hers, positively glowing with contentment. "I'm fine. I'm wonderful. I'm perfect. The bread and cheese was delicious, and so thoughtful - thank you! I was really touched. You didn't have to, honestly."

Apparently he was not having a good few hours for being coherent. He practically sang his thanks, rocking her a from side to side. Then what she'd said seemed to catch up with him, and he suddenly sobered a little - as if recalling an unpleasant memory. "Ah... yes... about the whole 'poisonous' thing..."

He trailed off, and almost abandoned it. However, he knew that keeping secrets from her, no matter how embarrassing it may be to admit that he'd lied, would be no benefit. So, he pulled back from her slightly, an apologetic grimace on his face. "I lied about that. It was a bit of a ridiculous lie, in fact, as we eat mainly meat. I just had to get out of there. It - how could you eat that stuff?" he cried, rather incredulous "My god! I've tasted a lot of foul things, but that... ich! That took the cake! It honestly did make me sick!"

"...And believe me when I say that I love you."

The Priestess blushed a little at his compliments, but couldn't quite find the right words to counter them. It was easier to respond to his next concern. "I'm... pretty sure I can heal myself. I've only ever tried with minor wounds, though. You're quite right, though - it's much better to avoid being injured at all!"

She gave a small smile, and moved to sit demurely in one of the chairs before the desk. "Well... if it's alright with you, I'd love to watch you work and learn about your art. I'm sure nothing bad could happen to me, with... with you here to keep me safe."

~~~Timeskip of around 3 hours to bring us up to date with the rest of the rp~~~
It had been a long time since she'd done something quite so mentally exhausting. How Panda managed to keep it up day and night with such little food and sleep was beyond her, and she told him as much. Still... it was probably some of the most fun she'd had since... since... huh. Since when? Somehow a timeframe eluded her. Something told her, however, that she'd need to look way back through the mists of time, beyond the beginning of the War, perhaps beyond her time in Barton, perhaps even before she left school to find a comparable moment.
In addition, though she wouldn't consider this until later, another thing that made the experience so pleasant was that it felt friendly. As absorbed in the work as they were, her flirty side didn't rear its head. It was so refreshing. She hated being the girl who rubbed up against men - absolutely detested herself for it.
If only that man hadn't ruined her when she was so very young, perhaps things would be different. Maybe she'd be able to enjoy normal relationships with people - with men. As it was, she was... she was...
Lorika gave a small sigh, leaning forward to rub her hand against her forehead. The sadder but wiser girl, that's what she was. Certainly not the epitome of holiness, and certainly not the sort of person she wanted to be. It only made her more resigned to keeping on her mask - to hiding what she really was from the people who needed her guidance. She couldn't let herself slip up again like last week. She'd had her little cry to Jessie. He wouldn't tell anyone. Now it was time to go back to normal. The Overseer...
The hairs on the back of her neck prickled, and she impulsively looked around, doing a double take when she saw who was standing on the other side of the room. "Storm!" she cried, leaping away from her close proximity to the wizard - she'd unconsciously been sitting with her arm wrapped around the back of his chair, leaning across him to get a better look at the text. "H-how did you-?!"
He must've entered while they were absorbed. She hadn't realised it was so easy to become so indulged in the work that the world passed by without you. No wonder it took Panda so long to react when she'd come in after the explosion. And here she'd thought he was just a little bit of a spacey genius... it seemed it could happen to anybody!
Panda had been surprised at how patient lorika had been with him as he did his work. It had already been a few hours and she showed little signs of faltering. With her there the room just felt lighter. He wasn't distracted much by her presence. In fact, seeing someone as interested in his work as he was made him a bit happier.
No one in the temple seemed that interested in what he did. They either wanted to use him, or ignore him. He was used to it, but this was refreshing. He almost smiled until he heard her scream a name and jump. It only took one second for him to jump out of his seat and face the man.
It was then that he heard a clink in his door and some guards rushed in with no warning. Looking pale they looked from Lorika to Panda.
"M-Ma'am, There's been trouble! The prisoner...he escaped!!!"
If she were ever to forget just how warm another person's body could be, there was surely someone to remind her now. A slight blissful smile curved up Coline's lips as she stood there, pleased with herself for having done something to make Jessie happy. And he was, wasn't he? The way he stroked her hair, the way he held her, the elated tone in his voice...
...
Wait a minute. This all seemed too familiar.
Her brow furrowed, the truth slowly dawning on her. A week ago, this... this was just how Jessie was before he--and there were a whole lot more presents this time around, too. Coline's expression darkened. So... was this what it all boiled down to? Was this all he wanted from her from the start? She shouldn't be so surprised, really; there was hardly anything desirable she could offer, and she was fully aware of that.
Haha... How humiliating.
Jessie's voice distracted her from her thoughts, however, as he pulled away from her and grimaced. What? Poison? What was he going on about? The recruit's face contorted into one of sheer puzzlement--shouldn't he be touching her by now?--her head tilting to the side as the words very slowly registered into her brain. And then it hit her.
"Oh... You mean the food!" she exclaimed with a little more cheer than necessary. Perhaps she'd just been thinking too much after all. She had to be. Her expression shifted into one of relief--so it wasn't poisonous, that's good--but only momentarily; the latter part of what he said didn't make quite as much sense as she would have hoped. "What are you saying? It didn't taste all that bad." she began, practically in the same state of disbelief as he was. "I mean, I know it wasn't delicious, but..."
Coline adopted a small frown. There it was again, that nagging sensation. She wasn't sure why but something was telling her she was missing something important. Perhaps if she gave it a little more thought it would all come back to her, but now was hardly the time to be idling. A smile returned to her features as she brought a hand up to brush a few stray strands of hair away from her Captain's beautiful, beautiful face. "In any case, I'm glad you're feeling better."
If a diety created all that is...
Xeiashi looked around, puzzled, when no Evelyn was around to make conversation. woops...lets hope she had something else to do...something tells me she's downright frightening when she gets miffed...Gods above...this stew is delicious he thought as he drained the lingering puddles of liquid heaven from his third...or so...bowl.
A thought suddenly struck him, he hadn't had this amazing of food since...he left home a few years back. Before he could get into a reminiscent mindset though, his stomach informed him, somewhat rudely, that he physically couldn't eat any more. "'scuse me..." he muttered to nobody immediately following the belch. He washed his dishes and hands, wiped his area, and set off once more. bloated and content, Xeiashi wandered from the kitchens towards the general direction of the library, as guided by passerby and the occasional sign.
Immediately upon arriving, he pulled the nearest book from its shelf. The green-hued cover read 'Theoretical Particle Physics', and appeared to have only been read once or twice. He quickly opened the mint-condition pages and began reading intently. So complete was his bliss that he didn't notice anybody in the area. He did, however, look up momentarily whenever a loud noise was made.
...wouldn't all writers be dieties of their own worlds?
Do I control the blades in my hands?
He stood, and watched, for what seemed like hours, watching the two grow further together, and for once, they were enjoying themselves. In the week he had known them, they had always been either too busy or too cranky to just be happy. But now, in each other's presence, They were content, if not... a little bit more. He sighed, remembering his days with Jessil on The islands... But banished the memories.
She had turned, overlooking him, once, or maybe a dozen times, but she turned again, suddenly realizing his appearance in the corner. She called his name, but what came after that made him lose himself.
A pair of guards, frantic and determined, had finally found Lorika, and it seemed they had seen the entire temple before they found her. Sweat glisten across their brows, and the words that escaped their lips...
The Rakshasa was loose.
He took off like a shot, pushing past the two guards without anyone saying anything, or at least without hearing them if they did.
The Rakshasa would go somewhere, somewhere with the most easy prey. In state he was kept they had seen him violent and savage, a caged beast, hating itself and ready to lash out at anything. In his weakened form, he would go after the quickest kills.
Those too tired to fight back.
He dashed across the temple grounds, through the courtyard, the rain as hard as it was reflecting fast off of his sturdy leather. Down the stairs and a little ways, he ran into the screams and terror. the lower levels had those needing rest, healing and treatment, but no one seemed to have been hurt by the creature.
He drew his sword, stalking forward, holding it in both hands, wary of the tricks it could impose on him. the people pointed, mouths open, no sounds issuing forth. He turned into the doorway, and saw something he would not have imagined of the creature.
It's massive frame was curled into a ball at the base of a bed, two guards standing overtop, trying to get what it was they were supposed to do. His blade came up, and he felt a clean quick sensation, something he was accustomed to, but not quite at home with. A clean gash across his hand and a clear mind, he saw it was no trick. This creature felt compassion enough to somehow break it's bonds to bring a seemingly sick felinid to the place it could be helped. How any of this had happened, he could only guess.
The red liquid dripped slowly to the floor from his open hand, limp, hanging from a dead arm. The gaurds turned, saw him and saluted.
"At ease, gentlemen," he said, Taking a smale roll of bandage and wrapping to small wound tightly. "The Rakshasa is to stay here, in his own bed. I will watch him."
With that, he bent to attempt to pick up the 700 pound creature.
He managed a slight lift and a shuffle, but it wasn't long until his gaze turned to the two guards who were staring in amazement at his feat of strenght.
"Y-you two," he strained, still holding the brunt of the creature's weight above the floor. "Get your asses in gear!"
The tow snapped out of their stupor long enough to help him to another bed, next to the felinid.
A short time later, the Rakshasa and the female both asleep and the people calmed, he had the beast restrained by his ankle with a simple steel manacle chained to the bed.
It had been a week, and in that time he had made a friend. Perhaps he can slowly become integrated into the temple. If I could do it, He could too.
His hand reached up, and his fingers touched the now familiar aquamarine stone at his neck.
"Lorika," he said, his eyes closed and mental power forcing the words to her presence. "The Creature has been contained, and I will stand watch. He is here in the lower levels under my strict supervision."
He slumped onto the stool next to the wall, And slowly slipped into a short reverie, a shallow one broken easily enough.
Or do they control me?
Jessie's whole body seemed to slacken with relief. Thank god his little stunt hadn't offended her. Beaming as the girl's hand gently brushed against his face, he decided not to ruin the moment by pressing the issue of the horriffic soup. Instead, he just closed his eye for a few moments, basking in the glow that was his Coline, arms loosely encircled around her shoulders.
"...Well," he began eventually - reluctantly "Mundane as it is, I need to brush my teeth after my sleep. Is there a spare brush I could use, by any chance...?"
"What?!" the woman cried, leaping up from her seat, ignoring Storm as he bounded out of the room "HOW? He was under strict, armed guard! Unless..."
Her hand went to her mouth. Feline. But... it couldn't... she wouldn't... would she?
No. There must be a more reasonable explanation. Why would she have done something like that after Lorika had promised her a hearing for the beastman? It just didn't make sense.
"Could you tell me what happened?" she asked the guard, somewhat hushed.
"I'm afraid not, ma'am," he admitted "I wasn't the one guarding him. They just sent me to tell you..."
"In that case, please go and help them secure the beast! He can't be left to run free!" she commanded, hands clasped in front of her chest.
The man mumbled his assent, and returned from whence he'd come. The Priestess fell back into her seat, hand returning to her mouth. "Oh, Panda. What are we going to do?"
She suddenly scowled and looked off to the side, her next words directed at noone in particular. She was recalling the events of the past week - her second statement in particular referring to a tale about the reasons behind the armory guards' sacking she'd heard spread amongst the acolytes, though she was unsure how much of it was true. "WHERE is Jessie?! Why does he keep hiring these imbeciles? Is he TRYING to tear us apart from the inside?"
...Beneath these robes, and this dye, and this stupid fancy title.
(( So um yeah, it's a post.
I didn't want to make a long solo post because Storm's post obv takes place over a long period of time, and it didnt make sense to me to have no interaction in the meantime. Yeah...
It's not been made obvious but she picks on Jessie a lot due to stuff that happened during the war. They've never really seen eye to eye and his presence even makes her uneasy from time to time, but as you have seen they do have the capacity to get along well and do feel a certain bond of mutual respect after the time they've spent together... in a kind of love/hate way. ))
I met a lady in the meads
Full beautiful, a faery's child;
Her hair was long, her foot was light,
And her eyes were wild.
-------------
Cressa had requested an inn - what she meant, of course, was the finest five-star hotel in the town. There weren't actually many to choose from - the holiday season was over, so most were shut. What was probably the second biggest and the second best, however, was still open. It would have to do.
The sight of a towering, six and a half foot dark elf, as wet as if she'd just crawled out of a river - no, the way she appeared from the downpour it was more like she was part of the storm itself; a malevolent watery spirit encroaching on the gigantic, gilded lobby - would stay with the receptionist to his grave. She glid straight towards him in an unerring path like a vengeful demon from a horror film... only ten times more frightening, because she was real and coming straight towards him oh my god.
He fumbled for the security button, but she was upon him first. "I demand a room for the night. Queen sized."
"Erm," he replied, frozen like a rabbit in the headlights, "W-we don't usually- I mean, um, maybe you should try another hotel..."
"I DEMAND a room for the night," she repeated coldly, long-fingered hand shooting out to grab the clerk by his collar.
She quickly let go, however, as an equally drenched raven suddenly stuck its head out of her sleeve and bit at the base of her hand. The drow woman recoiled with a shriek, opposite hand going over the injured wrist. "Why you-!"
"" the bird chastised from its new position on the counter ""
"" she hissed, grabbing the bird - who squawked - and stuffing her back down the front of her robes.
The man, whose life seemed to be flashing before his eyes as the strange scene played out in front of him, has backed up against the rack of keys. He might have been having a heart attack - it was so hard to tell. "P-please don't eat me," he whimpered "You can have any room you want! We aren't busy anyway!"
After giving him a moment's appraisal, Cressa's face broke into her warmest smile. Strange how it still managed to look somewhat cunning and evil.
"There, there, now. Now need to look so put out," she simpered, reaching up to brush back some of her plastered hair "I do apologise, my love. It's been a long day, as you can see. If you'd please allow me a room where I can refresh myself I'll provide the compensation your managers desire."
From somewhere or another, a single glittering jewel appeared in the palm of her hand. The clerk, despite himself, leaned forward - good lord! A diamond the likes of which he'd never seen! Worth more than half a year's salary to him, he'd bet... definitely more than a single night in one of their ritziest suites, even as extortionate as their prices were.
Cressa smiled to herself as he examined the gem, agape. She knew swiping a handful from the bag Jessie'd used to pay Ruby would prove useful. She was all about practicality, after all!
"My key, if you please?"
~~~

The top floor housed the best suites, of course. The drow woman strode out of the elevator, startling a maid who was carrying some towels.

"Oh, thank you," Cressa giggled, plucking two of the white, fluffy pieces of cloth out of her arms. She set off again, leaving the woman gaping in her wake.

"Let's see... it should be just around the corner," she correctly deduced, coming face to face with the door.

""

"" she mumbled in reply, key disappearing back inside her robes, having done its work. She opened the door, but a voice from her side halted her entrance.

"Um, ma'am?" it said "They sent me to see if you needed anything."

She turned, eyes widening a little when she saw the smartly uniformed assistant standing at attention. It was as if she'd clapped eyes on a very pleasant surprise, lips quirking into one of her trademarked wicked smirks. Still, she made a show of thinking for several moments, before reaching out to take him by the lapels, yanking him in with unexpected strength.

"You'll do," she purred. The door slammed shut behind them like the door to a furnace, or to a cell. The click of the lock was inaudible amongst all the thumping... which soon quietened.

-------------

I saw pale kings, and princes too,
Pale warriors, death-pale were they all;
Who cry'd--"La belle Dame sans merci
Hath thee in thrall!"

And this is why I sojourn here
Alone and palely loitering,
Though the sedge is wither'd from the lake,
And no birds sing.

Evelyn stopped at Xeiashi's question, it striking her as the strangest thing that someone would ask her about their own weirdness level.

"Garçon," she began, but soon realized she was alone. She had apparently lost Xeiashi as she was lost in thought.

*Damn. I was hoping to have someone with me to face the monster.*

Evelyn walked to the Practice Hall, and glanced into it, catching sight of Bakar and Xeiashi. Bakar was snoozing, and Xeiashi was studying. She sighed and shook her head. She knew Bakar wouldn't have helped her too much, but she had wanted his company in face of the monster.

"well I assume the first thing we should do is get a proper analysis of the situation. Which we can't do in my study." He said walking to the door scowling.

This whole situation about a prisoner made him upset. No one had bothered to tell him about it. If they had, he would have made sure it was under control. He could have slipped a sleeping potion, or restrained the person. Was he really that forgettable?

"your worrying about that muscle head now? It's not his fault to bear. I'm sure none of us has dealt with this situation before. Anyway, lets go. No use staying in here now, not with all that going on. i'm sure they will need you." He said grasping the handle and looking back at her. "and as for jessie...Who needs the good for nothing? he's only here because he's under contract. I really didn't expect anything more of him."
