If she hadn't been sitting next to him, Michiyo probably wouldn't have caught his confession, as quiet as it was and directed towards the ground. But she did, and his words made her stomach flip, a faint echo of the sensations of the night at the party reverberating through her body. Her mind was once again disturbed, though.
In the midst of all her debating and sussing over the events at the party, her worrisome mind had grasped onto the forced nature of the kisses desperately, escaping behind that excuse - even if the majority of that mind had to agree that the extended version wasn't quite part of the set-up - to avoid really coming to terms with it.
Anything that would happen hereafter though, no matter how big or small, there won't be any excuses, any lifelines to cling to. It would be her free will that made the choice, and she would have to stand by it.
And the first of that choices, would be to choose how to answer. The more assertive part of her wanted to reply in kind, as the obvious reaction of her senses to the kisses should lead her to conclude the same. But at the same time, a slightly more sensible - perhaps too sensible - part of her argued back, that the bodily reaction was probably just due to hormones, and what would a reciprocating answer mean exactly? It would hardly be fair to lead the poor boy on just because of a few rampant hormones.
In the end - after realizing that staying silent for so long probably wasn't very encouraging, never mind the fact that she knew the grin on her face was no doubt failing - she stammered through her words, cheeks flushing in embarrassment, her gaze also averted to the ground, though with her hand still in his, "I... well... I didn't... I didn't... hate it?" The final part of her sentence sounded more like a question than a statement, and she wasn't sure whether she even asking him, or herself.

Nah, as far as I've devised, she has little to no experience in this field, and that combined with a lack of confidence - in more than just her fighting - and a nature that tends to deny, deny, deny until you can deny no more~ Well, it leads to this kind of crap :[ ]]

Erin also paused for a long time now, puzzling over the stammering and the inflection in her voice. To him it made it sound as though she was trying not to disappoint or hurt him, while at the same time making it clear that it wasn't what she had wanted. He had been almost certain that he had felt something different when she had actually been kissing him, but just as she had tried to tell herself it was hormones, he too thought that could have been the reason. It probably should have made him feel better, that at least she was attracted to him physically, but the thought didn't do much to quell the small pain. He showed nothing in his features though, and simply shrugged his shoulders to brush it off.
"Well we're just friends now, so there's no reason for it to happen again, right?" he tried to reassure her, thinking that was the answer she was looking for.
He let go of her hand, slipping his out from under hers easily. He paused again before standing up and stretching, "We should get back inside. It's getting late, and the temperature is dropping."
Erin held his arm out for her still, since it was after all their habit now.

She wasn't sure what she had been hoping his response would be, troubled as she was, but the sinking sensation in her chest made it obvious even to her that this wasn't it. His features and tone of voice looked and sounded unconcerned, which for some reason disappointed her. It made her frown, gaze flitting back to the ground from where it had briefly examined his face as he talked, wondering why she would have felt better if he had been hurt. No one likes to see someone else hurt, right?
"Right," she echoed back, swallowing thickly, somehow managing to keep the disappointment out of her voice, "No reason at all."
As he slipped his hand from hers, she couldn't avert her eyes from her own, growing rapidly cooler without another source of warmth. It took her a moment to notice he had stood up, and quickly followed suit. "Yes," she replied quietly, "It is getting a bit chilly."
Taking the arm he offered, they started back up towards the main doors, the air between them even more uncomfortable than before their chat, something she hadn't thought possible. Friends, huh, she thought sullenly, We can't even talk normally anymore...

Erin noticed her get a little quiet and wondered if he had said the wrong thing, but with the mixed signals he was getting he had no real way to know what to do anymore. He had to admit that he too had been giving off mixed signals of his own, but he was trying to play off of her actions. He didn't want to lose her as a friend, but that part of him wanted something more. He didn't want to push her away by being too forward, and he didn't want to make her uncomfortable if he felt she only wanted to be friends. He reasoned that if she wanted something more then she could tell him so. He decided it would be much better to go back to acting as they had before the recent events, when they could laugh and joke and talk like normal. He could set aside whatever he was feeling, and it would be better for the both of them.
"We should get to that sparring session sometime," he grinned then, remembering how they never had the chance, "If you think you can handle it."

[[ Ha, with Erin playing off her actions and Michi - well, needing a good girl talk *hinthint* and kick in the behind - this could take a while XD Amazing how, with everything that went down, we're back where they started! ]]
She was glad he started up the conversation again, and his joking tone made it that much easier to fall back into the old routine, that small part of her mind that kept up its rebellion effectively silenced, at least for now.
"Well, you've seen me in action now," she replied, matching his grin, lifting up the hem of her dress to ascend the small set of steps leading up to the massive front doors, "And I've seen what you can do. At least now I can devise a perfect strategy to crush you with."
They reached the doors leading to the Common Room, where now everything was silent, the party obviously over, "I... er, think we'd best go change," she suggested, fingering a bit of her toga-dress, "Looks like the party is over and I'm not wearing this thing voluntarily."

Erin scoffed as she talked about devising a strategy, "I'll believe it when I see it."
Erin felt more at ease as she joked back, ignoring the lingering feelings he still had floating around inside him. He stopped and looked into the Common Room, seeing she was right, that it had become deserted. The only sound was quiet music still playing in the background, and he hesitated. Part of him had wanted to dance with her for days now, but the other part told him to forget about it and go get changed as she suggested. He gave into the latter part of his mind and turned away from the doors to lead her back to her room. The last time he had taken her there, he had been carrying her sleeping body. He smiled a little at the memory.
"I'll walk you back to your room."

"Ah, are you sure?" she asked, though already starting to move in the direction of her room, "Don't you want to go and change too?" She realized she had no idea where his room was located, if it was near hers or on the other side of the castle.
