Not that anyone cares, but I think it works far better to have the romance end opened up. Especially to vampires, it allows them some sort of redemption in a way. They find 'the one' a truly romantic idea and they now have a reason to stay out of the sunlight. They have a reason to keep on going. It's understood between them what will be allowed nad what won't and tehy live if not happily then with some kind of purpose. Not all becom selfless but most crave the emotion that seems to fade after so many centuries alive. Not to mention living with the thoughts of someone else, can often keep one from going completely insane.

Take Lynx for example, he's almost 1000 years old. He's done everything that can possibly be done, seen everything there is to see. What's left? Nothing. He could stick around for a thousand more years but he wont' be satisfied, he'll become so bored and just not want to live anymore. Enter Thalia: She's not quite as old but she too has lived for a long time. She gives Lynx something to look forward to because God knows nobody ever knows what that girl is going to do. *remembers scene. "I am Lady Freaking Blackrose!"* So he now has someone to keep him going for another thousand years if they go that long. He gets to see everything through fresh eyes because Thalia hasn't been everywhere, hasn't seen everything.

Same with Xearus nad Semara. Semara has someone to temper her when she needs it and match her in skill. Xearus has someone who teases him about his appearance but she would shatter anyone who went too far over it. Not to mention that vampiric sex, feeding, gives them that rush they can't get unless they kill or use their powers in other ways. It makes them feel alive so why not do it? Sex with mortals is just like chopping a chicken's head off before cooking it. IT's a way to stop your food from squirming and screaming and satisfy both of you. A symbiotic relationship if you look at it that way. And to a vampire, who can't get pregnant or diseases and has lived so long why not have sex? To them there's nothing morally wrong with it, it's just something that is done. Something to pass the time.

I would think also that a vampire would try and keep from getting close to a mortal because they are just that, mortal. IF you love somebody that much and you know they are going to die, how would you feel? Would you want to continue living? Woudl you sacrifice yourself to save them? Would you go insane or turn hard and cruel? What exactly would you do? Intersting question to think about, isn't it. FAcing an eternity without the one that you have had for so long. How do you do that and not go insane, survive as long as some have and not turn jaded and dark?

Ok now that I've put my two cents in, which I know you all are shaking your head about, I'll simply close wiht this, I'm not a vampire expert and I dont understand a whole lot about them, nor do I have any desire to delve into all the different statisitcal aspects that arise. I would rather look at the being which I think I have done here. How they feel, how they think. It's a curse in simple terms. They can't die unless there's extreme circumstances and they don't have much to keep them occupied. The romance angle just opens up more options to them.
