Jerry's brows furrowed at Sil's answer. It sounded like a difficult decision for her, and from what he gathered from in between the lines, he thought he knew what she meant. He was sad to hear, probably more sad than if she had told him how she had fallen out of love, or how Cross had become unreliable, or something else of that nature. Hearing that the reason wasn't because of any wrongdoings or mismatched feelings really made Jerry's heart ache for her. He hated to see lovers pushed apart by the war, but he often saw the tragedy first hand. He sighed very quietly before continuing.
"And you still love him...?" he already knew the answer, but he asked anyway.

Sil honestly hated that question, and she started to play with her own fingers in a nervous movement, her eyes falling to the counter between them. Lavi had asked her the same question not long after she had ended things with Cross and her answer now was still the same as it was then. Part of her was afraid that it would only be a matter of time until Lavi started to resent that she was still in love with Cross, and that thought alone made her feel terrible amounts of fear and guilt over the truth of the situation. In part, her stubborn heart holding onto love no matter the cost of it was part of the reason why her and Lavi had this second chance, but the idea of that same emotional inflexibility could possibly a rift between them almost made tears well in her eyes. If the situation were switched, had Lavi been in her situation and she in his, she wondered if she would have been half as understanding.
Finally after the long pause, her lips moved to answer. "...Yes..." Even though she hesitated to make the truth known, the honest answer came from her lips in a very soft tone. "But... even if you love someone, sometimes it simply isn't meant to be and it's time to move on..." The remedied defense came after, and she wasn't sure who she was defending herself against. Was it Jerry, or her own guilty conscience rearing up again?
