If you agree with what I said then you agree with my post. Some details may have missed but the post was rather long and detailed to keep up with and I was as well at work, but I take fault if I missed details through it....

I'm sorry but no, if I agree with the way you've described the ability in the OOC it does not mean that I agree with your post.

Example: Your character is attacking mine. My post includes (exactly in these words) "He evaded the attack and started his counter" and then goes on for 4-5 paragraphs to describe what my attack is.

Evading the attack is perfectly possible. I just didn't describe how it happened other than mentioning that it did, in fact, happen.

Are you going to have an issue with this? I can describe you in 4 paragraphs in the OOC exactly how I evaded the attack, but in my post it is literally four words: "he evaded the attack".

That is something different. You would need to explain a how you evaded as far as movement so I would know how to react. My post did not need that type of explanation just a detail on when he started the ability which was commonsense wise during her run. Because with yours a back up would have a different reaction than a left right or forward or down. I would ask for clarity before responding.

Somehow all my data disappeared so I couldn't make a post. Leaking off wifi from someplace to make this post.

Lord Haelstrom
I pretty much didn't get a fight until right near the original deadline, passed out for a week, came to here again and found out there was fight time.

Feels bad. [munches sandwich]

Not as bad as this fight I'm reading though.

I won't disappoint you. wink

"he evaded the attack".

That is something different.

You would need to explain a how you evaded

My post did not need that type of explanation

Your post "did not need that type of explanation", because it didn't matter what type of attack your opponent did as long as it was within the strength allowed by your ability to deflect and you knew about the attack. Everything else is unnecessary, because the ability will simply intercept the attack when he decides that it happens.

At least that's what I hear when you tell me you don't have to explain how it happened, only that it happened.

Because it just happened.

Were you using an evasion, you would need to describe how you evaded. Were you blocking, you would need to describe how you blocked. Were you interrupting the attack you would need to describe how you prevented it from happening before it happened.

Instead you just weren't hit. Because you used an ability. That is the extent of how you described it in the post.

"Jecht uses 'guard'."

I'm not saying what is wrong, because I'm hoping that you'll understand why these two things are not equal and that they should be.

Jello... Just let him fail on his own.

Nah, at this point I'm talking for the sake of general discussion.

themightyjello
"Jecht uses 'guard'."

Continuing on this point. I could submit a profile that had a number of basic combat maneuvers in it listed as abilities. For example, I submit a character that has the ability Guard. It is described as such: "Guard: Joe intercepts an incoming attack, deflecting it."

This is a bare minimalist description of an ability, there isn't much to it and therefore it's unlikely that a profile grader would have a problem with it unless they went looking for a problem. And that is the problem. If nobody asks any questions regarding this ability, and it is admitted as written, there is nothing technically stopping me from in my post just quoting this ability any time I am attacked even if it would be illogical to do so and saying that the attack was deflected... and then going back to what I was doing.

Shot with a gun? Used Guard.
Stabbed with a sword? Used Guard.
Punched in the face while tied up? Used Guard.
Magic Missile? Used Guard.

Because nowhere does it specifically say that I can't, since the ability as written has no listed requirements or associated actions, or a cost or cooldown to it. It's just a thing that my character can do. If it's not described how I do it in my post, then it's just something that happens and the actual logistics of the ability aren't taken into account (unless of course someone judge calls and forces me to add in a description of how the ability activated and what it actually did). I just write "Joe used Guard" and keep going.

This is an obvious example of "doing it wrong", and it is not the same thing as what Boujechta Brown is doing. But it's similar enough that I can use it as a demonstration point because the topic has already been brought up.

Where am I going with this? Just trying to remind everyone that sometimes profile graders make assumptions about things that aren't always the same as how the abilities actually get used. Because something was approved in profile grading does not always mean that it would be approved again after that judge sees it in action. That's one reason why tournaments need to have some sort of requirement for hotfixes. In HoH this was the "overlord clause", though in this it's just Hero saying "I reserve the right to change the rules whenever I feel like it".

Because sometimes you don't know there is going to be a problem until there is a problem.

...also, remember that listing abilities is not a substitute for actually writing it out narratively. Things that work in a statblock but make no sense when described still make no sense.

If Bullshit Brown was whistling this tune with me, I'd just post my next post railroading over his lack of detail.

Simple solution in T1 pure.

None of this bullshit.

Shush, I'm making teaching points.

That's something you should be well-accustomed to.

I am well accustomed to it, but I never had a problem with the mechanics of my posts--it was my attitude.

This is mechanics + attitude. He'll just get RR next round if he makes it. Lead a horse to water mumbo jumbo.

He's been issue jumping, but all of my post has been true to character, fair, balanced, and understandable in the situation they were in, in the fight. Had I ******** up and got caught like Vin/Athena it would have just been my ******** up and it would suck IC but it would have to be eaten

I don't know man.

In that particular post, you popped a bunch of powers in one post, had chains that more or less seem to be the equivalent of spawns chains that can snap bones and move under their own power, and on top of that your character has super physiology (strength, speed ,etc)

That isn't to say Athena's abilities aren't as ******** up but he hasn't really been using them as much as your character

I wouldn't say any of your abilities on their own are too much

but all together, six post into this fight, your character seems really, really, really strong.

I think the only thread I haven't read yet is Savoki vs Clash (?).

I've began reviewing the fight post by post.

Initially, Vintrict and OutlawD were both at a firm -2 points, neck and neck.

Then.. -it- happened and I had to go finish my sandwich before it gets cold.

Awesome.

Now do this with every fight.

Savoki Sanoci
Wish my fight progressed, but with the huge extension its mainly up to the combatants to dictate that time. Waiting days for a post is not fun, but in the other news; anyone doing some good ol drinking for Saint Patty's day?

Certainly.
