Bakasensei Cross Though he had also been expecting her answer, hearing it didn't sting any less than the rest, either. He had known her feelings for Lavi from the beginning, and he knew they wouldn't waver. He suppressed the voice inside his head that started to flare up with words that made him doubt whether what he and Sil had was ever true. 'She always loved Lavi, he was her first love. No one can measure up to that.' Just as Sil was always hard on herself, so was he; He didn't let himself forget those truths, or what he perceived to be the truth.
With another breath through his nose, he pushed himself off the window to stand up straight. He unfolded his arms as he slowly walked over to where she stood, looking down at her, a hint of sadness just barely discernible in his eyes. He couldn't completely suppress what he felt then, and he hoped she would feel no guilt.
"Sil...all I want is for you to be happy. If you're truly happy...that's all that matters to me, " he spoke softly and with a tenderness in his voice.
A small, sad, yet accepting smile formed on his face as he continued to look down at her. Slowly, he raised his hand to rest atop her curls, cupping the side of her head. Rubbing his thumb gently against her temple, he leaned down to press a soft kiss to the top of her head. He held his lips there for several seconds before he pulled back, allowing his hand to slowly leave her.
"Goodnight, decchi, " his last words to her that night were spoken with a fondness he would always carry in his heart. Turning away, he moved to the door and quietly slipped from her room. The sadness in his eyes, no matter how small, broke her heart. No matter how she tried to justify it in her head, knowing that her actions were still hurting him made her stomach sick. There had once been a time where she had been the one that could coax that look from his face with a gentle touch or comforting words and now she was fated to be the cause of it. Now it was done, though. As long as she kept her mouth shut this was the last thing that she could do to disappoint him further outside of her apprenticeship.
Her eyes curtained to a close as he leaned over her, and as his soft lips brushed against her skin she felt a painful lump form in her throat. The gesture lasted a long moment, and in it she simply reveled in the feel of the familiar goatee ticking her skin. It had been so long since they had been that close together, and she realized so as the sweet scent of his tobacco and fresh, earthy cologne hit her with a wave of nostalgia to her core. When the lips were gone, she knew it was likely that this was his way of saying a final goodbye to what they had.
“I want you to find happiness, too,” Sil’s voice was so soft it was barely above a whisper, and as her eyes opened they locked on his with desperate sincerity. Her fingers stroked his uncovered cheek before cupping the bare skin, tracing with one last gentle brush of her thumb. The hand fell away then, releasing him to leave as he wanted. She didn’t watch him go. Her eyes just stayed forward and her lips formed the words with more strength to them, except for the gentlest quivering break to her voice: “Goodnight, Cross.”
The door closed and when she heard the soft click, she pressed her fingers hard against her burning eyes to stop them from watering. With his words echoing in her head, she wondered if she deserved to be happy. All she wanted then was to see Lavi and remind herself that true happiness was near by, but instead she moved over to her bed and leaned back into her pillows, opening the music box the young man had so kindly gifted to her. For now it would have to do, and the sweet music breaking through the eerie silence soothed her.
((It isn't nonsense to me... *Curls in corner holding wrist.* It's very real and sad to me. ;-;
Also, bitches you don't know what bipolar is til you live next to a mountain range. In Reno we had 50 degree temperature changes from one day to the next, 120 mph winds blowing down off the mountains, snow flying sideways on a sunny day... D: Fire. Fire counts, right? It was crazy. EAE ))
