The seconds he stayed silent felt exactly like an eternity to her, and she felt every one of them as acutely as if each were being counted down by a long finger ticking each one with a scrape of nail against glass. Her features were still tense, her eyebrows creased and her eyes desperate for him to say something, anything.. Anger was even better than silence.
His final reaction was so calm, so eerily calm that she wondered if she had stepped into the eye before the storm. However, her interpretation of the situation soon faltered and she wondered if he had become so impassive over her that he simply didn't care any longer. It all came down to that confused waver in her own emotions; part of her wanted him to be completely indifferent to her existence while another part was holding on so tightly to the love he once had for her that her knuckles were turning white. Letting go of him had been the most difficult choice she had ever made, and Sil would not give in to the weaker side of her that clung to him.
His gentle question surprised her, but it also brought her a sense of relief and she let out a soft, cleansing breath. If there was one things he owed this man, it was honesty even if it hurt. "Yes," she said, her voice not wavering in her answer. It wasn't even a question in her mind. Lavi had been something special to her for so long, even if there had been no romantic inclinations in their relationship before. He supported her when she needed it most, fought for her even when it wasn't his duty, and Sil only hoped that she would someday make him half as happy as he had already made her. "He... always has, though now it's... a little different than before."
With that question, the nurturing part of her wanted to reassure Cross, tell him that he, too had made her so very happy... but she knew the words now would likely be hollow. She swallowed, her eyes resting on his with that worried expression still on her face. "Are you... angry...?"

Though he had also been expecting her answer, hearing it didn't sting any less than the rest, either. He had known her feelings for Lavi from the beginning, and he knew they wouldn't waver. He suppressed the voice inside his head that started to flare up with words that made him doubt whether what he and Sil had was ever true. 'She always loved Lavi, he was her first love. No one can measure up to that.' Just as Sil was always hard on herself, so was he; He didn't let himself forget those truths, or what he perceived to be the truth.
With another breath through his nose, he pushed himself off the window to stand up straight. He unfolded his arms as he slowly walked over to where she stood, looking down at her, a hint of sadness just barely discernible in his eyes. He couldn't completely suppress what he felt then, and he hoped she would feel no guilt.
"Sil...all I want is for you to be happy. If you're truly happy...that's all that matters to me, " he spoke softly and with a tenderness in his voice.
A small, sad, yet accepting smile formed on his face as he continued to look down at her. Slowly, he raised his hand to rest atop her curls, cupping the side of her head. Rubbing his thumb gently against her temple, he leaned down to press a soft kiss to the top of her head. He held his lips there for several seconds before he pulled back, allowing his hand to slowly leave her.
"Goodnight, decchi, " his last words to her that night were spoken with a fondness he would always carry in his heart. Turning away, he moved to the door and quietly slipped from her room.
