Humans were always so vibrant, so alive, so unpredictable, yet at the same time, so VERY predictable. They were paradox, an unsolvable question, an endless query with no answer, and no true form.
They were like the water. Formless, ever shifting, and always taking the form of whatever container, vessel, or role your chose to put them in. They could be all things, and nothing, all at the same time. It was all these things that made them so very interesting, so very fascinating, for one who by his very nature searched for answers in all things. They were like puzzles, each a new and interesting riddle, to be solved, and observed. Watching them in their motivation, watching them in their struggles and currents... it was like watching the ocean, like watching a running river. It was a sight that he would never tire of. It was something could keep him content all day if he allowed himself...
Yes...humans were ever so interesting indeed...

Human will, his own included, was the most wondrous and powerful force in the universe... and all else merely served to give it material to work with. Things like power, influence, and knowledge, all the things that Byakuran valued and held in esteem, he acknowledged them as mere extensions, mere by-products, of will. Speed, skill, precision, chakra, they were nothing more then tools to achieve the ends that one's will dictated. Even as he continued to train, even as he continued to steel himself for the times ahead of him, he was doing little the arming his will for the battles ahead where it's right would be tested.
For he did intend to win. No matter who it was that he found himself pitted against...even if it happened to be his own clan...
Even if it happened to be the village of the hidden mist.
Byakuran was a very impartial person, in the sense that he didn't care much for morality or little trifling things such as that, so long as he himself satisfied. Picking the winning side, betrayal, lying, stealing, these were all just manuvers, no different in the basic sense then the ones he was preforming now.

They were moves on the board, mere stratagems to be put into the play. while he didn't believe in absolutes, the means tended to justify the ends, and that went doubly so when those ends were his. He considered human society as a whole as more of a system through which he had to navigate, a current which he had to move with lest he be swept away. But when needed to thrash against it to stay comfortably afloat, well one needn't think anything of it.
It was fortunate for most everyone, now that he considered it, that he was, all things considered, not an individual predominant of violence. Conflict, perhaps, but not so specifically violence. He was a whimsical thing, a thing of curiosity and bemusement, who was content and harmless so long as the two former were met. But as much of thing of whimsy as he was, he was also a creation of logic. This logic ensured that all actions he conducted where concise and prompt in the accordance to his ends. That was to say, everything that he did had his own intents in mind. A sort've sublime selfishness that he wasn't at all ashamed of. Fortunately he was neutral on most issues, but even then generally tended to side with the logical course merely because...well, it WAS just ever so logical.

The movements of his drills continued as his mind, ever prone to wandering, did so, his body apparently continuing on with only mild input from the boy's rather machiavellian and labyrinthine web consciousness.
he didn't really loath the village hidden in the mist as such. His life here had been rather agreeable. He found himself, for the most part, rather satisfied. He was fed well, his mind kept mildly entertained, and most importantly, he was given the opportunity to become stronger via their ninja program. But still...
There was always something that irked him at the back of his mind. Something that bothered and distracted him from being truly and completely content. It had been the matter of much debate for him during his numerous day dreams, but he could never really come up with a real answer. He supposed it may have been too many different things to be sure... to many reasons that his rather finicky psyche refused to be eased by the day to day workings of his life over the past seven years.

There was the fact that it meant he was in exile from his family. He supposed that might have been the reason for a normal person. Most, even in the clan, were very tied and attached to their families, to the point where being estranged from them and sent away by their orders might have been painful. But if he had ever harbored any such thoughts, he didn't recall them. In truth, he was quite sure that it didn't bother him in the slightest, though he supposed he might be repressing such buried inclinations.
But no, no he didn't think so.
Perhaps it was the fact that even if he was happy in his day to day life, he knew that a time would come when he would be forced out of it.
Yes...perhaps that was it. No matter how happy he was throughout his childhood days, his time at the academy, and how much he learned or how entertained he was by the goings on around him, there would still always be a clinging doubt towards the future that lay ahead. A time when those days would come to a halt...
The time that now was coming all too soon.

He knew this all too well. That he would soon be called upon to fullfill his duty. His...obligation. An obligation, he supposed, that it would only be logical he fulfill. It was in his best interest, after all. Following his orders, and executing his task perfectly, it was both a way to improve his skills, as well as gaining confidence and status with the right powers. And after all, if it just so happened that a certain event went poorly, if the power he owed this obligation to was too weak, then he could simply cut ties with them, and side with the winning team. He stood with very little to lose and everything to gain. After all, so long as he managed to survive, even if he was captured...
That...FOOL, would come after him.
Yes, of course he would. As soon it became clear he was in danger, the only surviving, and very unstable, member of immediate family, would come to his aide. After all...that was always what he did. Make everything that Byakuran himself couldn't do look effortless.
But...even so. Byakuran frowned slightly even as he continued his training, his form flawless in this moment. It made him an effective tool...a tool that he could use to gain his own power. And then...someday....

The mist seemed to drift silently just beyond the thick trees, Byakuran's training continuing on as he pressed on, without pause. Pausing was a show of weakness after all... that was one thing from his early upbringing that had stuck. He had sense learned that there were times, such as when you truly WERE to weak to deal with a situation, when pausing was important, but in times such as this when the only thing he was fighting against was his own dedication, there was no reason for him to hesitate.
There was no reason for him to show weakness in the face of himself...no reason to slow down when at last he was starting to progress...he was starting to advance... starting to push forward, starting to move at last. It felt as his muscles worked and stretched that, along with his own ability to move with greater competency, he was moving faster towards the future he longed for... one in which he was truly powerful...

It was...quiet here. He liked that. He liked that very much. Normally, no matter where he went, it was never completely quite. He was lucky enough that his new apartment, as humble as it was, was insolated enough to keep out most vibrations, most sounds. Still, walls could only do so much in the middle of a thriving village. He was lucky to get a moment of true silence. as such, though, he'd gotten used to noise. It washed into the background, flooded the air about him, and when he had a mind, he was able to push it aside, to obscure it from his notice and merely focus on his ever drifting thoughts.
But true silence...yes, that was refreshing. Even the cutting of the air as he moved his limbs, it seemed so soft and serene compared to the ever changing din that was the sounds of the crowded village. He made a mental note that he would come here more often, even if it was just to...get away from it all.

To look at him, one would probably never suppose that he was ninja. He didn't at all look the part aside from the headband that was currently serving as belt. He was rather unsuspecting to the casual observer, and indeed, he liked it that way. It was easier to deal with people when they didn't see you as potential threat. He suspected that as he aged, he would probably continued to diguise his appearance as that of a youth merely because people saw them as so nonthreatening. They didn't at all suspect that a mere child could be a danger, not even for a moment...
Even Ninja sometimes made that mistake. His own presence in this village was enough evidence of that. Deep down, almost everyone wanted to believe that children were pure and innocent...that they can be trusted and believed to at the very least be earnest in their intent and incapable of committing true evil...
But that was, of course, just a bunch of ideological mish mash. Children were human, after all...and you could never truly assume anything about humans with 100% certainty...that was what made them so very fun.

When he really thought about it, he supposed that he was looking forward to meeting his new teammates. After all who knew what sort of interesting characters they might be.
The village hidden in the mist had no shortage of interesting people, after all. One such individual, had greatly influenced him, and before his departure as a missing nin, had caused Byakuran to truly...think. Yes in fact it had been that young man which had helped Byakuran form a great many of his opinions...of his ideas on life, and the way things worked. Even if the other boy had been a bit unhinged, Byakuran hadn't really seen anything wrong with that. After all one couldn't really say that Byakuran himself was entirely on the ball when it came to the picture of mental health, and just look how marvelously HE got along.

He still recalled the day that he had met that strange young man... he recalled it as clearly as though it had been the day before. He remembered explicitly every word that had come between them...he and the one with the chesire smile...
It had been a unseasonably cold day that morning, so many years ago, and he'd been on his way to the academy as a cold mist blew in off the waters and washed over the village... He'd actually not minded days such as that, because it was on such days that the mist obscuring all seemed the thickest, seemed the most encompassing. It made him feel more...secure, even if it was only the illusion of such security.
"Chi chi chi." that laugh. That had been what had first caught his attention. For though it WAS clearly a laugh, it was not quite like any one he had heard before. And being an Otobe, this was something he could confirm within the the decibel.

The young man had been leaning up against the wall of a nearby shop along the street, and though it was rather difficult to accurately assess just where he was looking due to the rather long bangs that were completely obscuring his eyes, Byakuran had gotten the distinct impression that he was looking right at him.
"Chi chi chi..." There it was again. such an unusual laugh indeed. It had intrigued him at the time, causing him to, with no real intent in mind, stop and passively observe the bizarre character. There was silence between them for a moment before "Can I help you kid?" he didn't look THAT much older the Byakuran, but he supposed there was enough of a difference that the nickname was not unfounded.
"Why are you laughing like that?"
"Why?" the blonde youth seemed very amused. "HmmmI like that. That's a really original kind of question. Yeah. alright, I'll answer you. It's because that's how it sounds when I laugh with this smile on my face."
"Why do you have that smile on your face?" Byakuran had pressed looking the very picture of obliviously un-empathetic.
"Chi chi chi, I like you kid, you ask good questions."

"Because this world...is just so damn funny."
That had been the first of many conversations with Kyojin Kotei, the Missing nin who were today known as the "Last Laugh". And after numerous discussions with his senpai on the matter, Byakuran could finally understand what he meant by that. Finally comprehend the joke that his senpai had been laughing at that day...and probably everyday since.
Yes... yes it was wasn't it.
He wondered what his old senpai was up to these days. The last he had heard he'd joined up with the Missing nin troupe Shin no Saakasu, or, the circus of death, as their knife thrower. The Cirus itself was apparently broken up by some upstart fire breathing ninja hero and his band stereo typical companions...even if one of those was rumored to be far more skilled then the others, and secretly an agent of Oto. The last part of that information he'd gotten from...more discrete family sources. Apparently they'd had a run in with that group themselves while dealing with an info broker... what HAD that young shinobi's name been...?
Xen-something... Maboroshi? Was it? Yes. That had been the name. Xenon Maboroshi. Apparently it had been him who had defeated Kyojin-senpai, something that wasn't to be taken lightly, but Kyojin had survived the encounter. After that, well, it wasn't as though he had access to an abundance of information concerning rogue nin tucked away here in the village.
